Malta?! No wonder you hadn’t posted in a while. Happy holiday! I tried out the new settings last night and arrived at about the same settings as you did. I considered keeping my sport mode at factory levels but also figured that smooth was better even when flying fast. Thanks for the update, huge improvements for the MA2.

My word that place has changed. I lived there for 10 years but left in 2002. The old cities look much the same but where you were staying is nearly unrecognisable ! In the St Georges Bay Area perhaps? Nice to see it all from the air, however. Thanks.

It’s a brilliant update easily explained thanks. I just got my new mavic air 2 from DJI under warranty as the last one is at the bottom of a waterfall.Top marks to DJI for the way they went about the investigation after I sent in my flight logs.

I used your settings for the Pitch & Yaw configs on my MA1 and kept them for years, where she operated as smooth as .... I love my Mavic Air 2, and your videos are great I like your style. I think you mentioned a larger problem than you seemed to voice about the yar speed going as low as 20 stills looked real fast 💨? I’m sure you sounded disappointed after the full stick appeared to be too fast still. I’ll try mine tomorrow as I’m slowly enjoying the journey of mastering the air 2 and learning more about photography. Love you vids cheers Ian 👍

Great video Ian, as always very professional and helpful. Enjoy Malta... looks fab! I note in my Advanced Gimbal Settings... in all three modes, the "Yaw Smoothness" has a scale of 0-100. Yours Ian has a scale of 0-30. all the other settings scales are identical. Very strange ???
pitch speed= -5
pitchsmooth = -25
yaw speed = -20
yaw smooth -25
is this normal mode or tripod

I had trouble updating the app!
It seems that apps installed form the DJI site rather than the Play store do not update automatically.
Had to uninstall and reload the app from the Play store.
I didn't think the gimbal control was to bad anyway for a default setting compared with my other drone but the battery indicator is a lot clearer.

I updated yesterday, Firmware came first but you have to delete the the app before the new 1.1.6 version shows on app store.
Using Air Mavic 2 and Android Fly app I encountered a bug where the advanced gimbal/cinema pitch setting setting did not alter the pitch speed with the controller set to tripod. The Yaw setting worked. However adjusting the pitch setting in advanced gimbal/normal did apply the desired setting to tripod mode on the controller. What makes no sense is the advanced gimbal/normal has a wider range of yaw settings than the cinema mode. Thanks for this video I had not come across anyone else going over these essential advanced gimbal settings
Also be aware that if you take off with the switch set to 'cine-mode' you're actually in Normal mode, not cine mode. You have to take off in Normal, then switch mode.

The most needed app update for MA2 has arrived at last... A quick question to you Ian, I've noticed you're using -0,7 EV for your records. I've did the same for my MP1 but I found that Air 2 has better light metering (or sensor? ) and I do not find it necessary now. Do you generally use it everywhere or just for the very sunlit places like rocky landscapes of Malta?

Hi Peter; I filmed the over-water shots for the YAW adjustments in mid afternoon but still only had the ND8 on from the previous evening. Usually it's on 0 or thereabouts. Cheers, Ian

Very true; I was also shooting near sunset; my 16 was able to stay on early morning and late afternoon too

I'm in Malta at the moment! Yes, the settings stay but occasionally updates do wipe all existing settings so you need to keep an eye....👍🏻

Another fantastic video Ian. Its so good to see you are still an avid pilot after all this time. I think back to your video when you lost your mavic...lol. I have yet to get a mavic as my flying has used a fleet of 3DR Solo's I have been using for survey and site plotting. I also have been using a Parrot Anafi Thermal for inspections. I am ready to get my first Mavic and would really value your opinion for which one you would recommend be my first? Be well, my best to you and yours.

Ian in London thank you. Final question. In your opinion is buying used a good idea for a Mavic Air 2? I see them going for bids between high 400 to as much as 1200. Some refurbished and others for parts. With all that obstacle avoidance looks like there still crashing them. 😆 I have plenty of cards. Really I just want the drone. Controls and couple batteries. Making a protective case is simple. I crashed my very first phantom 3. But none of my four Solos have ever crashed and the Anafi is just plain fun.

@@IaninLondon I think it's partly to do with covid, as there are a lot of people whose employment circumstances have changed, be it unemployment or reduced earnings. I'm sure plenty of Air 2s were purchased using a credit facility, so selling is an obvious way out of a difficult situation for these people. I bought my mint condition Air 2 a couple of weeks ago, with only three charges registered each on the batteries, and I saved myself a couple of hundred on the combo new price.....
Can't agree with setting all the gimbal settings the same Ian especially if you fly down in Devon.
The 🦅🦉 🐦's are bonkers, I've got loads of footage of potential bird strikes. Things are closer than they appear due to the nature of the wide angle lens.
Sport mode I'd say keep for those emergency situations when you just need to get home in a hurry, fast gimble and super fast yaw. You never know when you need to turn 180'degrees in a hurry.
If you have your settings on cinematic you are asking for trouble if you fly in the breeding season around 🌊 and 🦉🦅.. ✌🏽✌🏿✌🏻
Fair point. Although when birds strike the best approach is to rise up quickly and nice forward and away....👍🏻👍🏻
@@IaninLondon I'm with you there but I'd rather do a quick 180' as you rise than a slow yaw or pan especially if the birds come in numbers and home is behind you.. 👀
its actually disappointing.... not the upload or the description of this long awaited update.. but the lack of update content for UK/Europe (Europe possibly??)
what do I mean, well if you watch American air2 channels talking about this update, they've also got a update in the obstacle avoidance, where the current obstacle avoidance options switchable on/off, they've been combined into one feature & a further on screen display has been added.. yet we've not got that yet..
I heard of this update last wk & you could download it by a 3rd party site (none official) however its only been today I've had it updated, checking yesterday there wasn't a thing to update (I'd checked 3-4 times throughout the afternoon, evening) so expect another update with that feature shortly "I expect"
regarding would I use different settings T,N,S yes I would, I'm still learning on flying "current nice spots seem to have alot of ppl so I don't really want to mix with them "understandably as I'm on the high risk to catching it if exposed" so I use Sport for fun flying around & learning the controls in open area's.. helps with overall control 'I find' so sport will be getting a faster response in movement.. however not too fast, as that could contribute to disaster.
other then that yeh good upload, weird colour settings to start with be careful in Europe as covid is breaking out all-over the place (just like in limited spots within the uk)

Cheers for that info again buddy, your a gent. I spoke with UK Pilots who use Mode 1, but each of my drones are set in mode 2, so stick with it. Just wanted an expert opinion on modes and you hit the nail on the head for me matey 👍👍👍👍

What setting would you recommend as my PC is an old rubbish one and not sure if it will cope with great stuff. Did a little test on Zino last week in 4K as was not too bad, but what is a good average setting matey as do not have software to edit once on PC?

@@waddac2 I would work in 1080 or 2.7 max. 4K is too heavy for most PCs to handle in editing...

Hi Karen; actually you were ahead with the Mini, as you could already adjust the pitch and yaw. I've read that a few people are struggling to find the update and have got it by uninstalling the Fly app then reinstalling it. That's what I had to do with this update. Cheers, Ian

Am I the only one who misses the sensitivity settings Exp for the sticks like in de go 4 app?Used to fly the mavic 1. And there it was much more easy to control the yaw movement and make your own smoothness. Now often the rotation of the drone gets too far of my subject.. Very annoying. Have a nice holiday.😊

The Mini will be updated too, but remember the Mini already had adjustability for the pitch and yaw...👍🏻
Hi Ian, I recently bought a Mavic Air 2 and watched a number of your videos. The one you did on the A2 C of C encouraged me and I have now obtained that. The question I have is: on all of the videos I watch on the Air 2, it shows the drone's position relative to the flyer highlighted clearly in the bottom centre of the screen. I don't have that on my screen, Have I missed a setting to show this central indicator or, has this been moved onto the map, which is visible on mine in the bottom left hand side of my screen. If so, this doesn't seem as clear as it the central, much larger indicator? Thanks for your informative videos and I hope you'll keep making them.
HI Steve; yes, the app was updated and the radar display is now hidden; tap the map, lower left, then tap the map's corner icon lower right. Then you get the radar back. Painful.

Hearing about the update I put in a fresh battery went forth to get a long awaited tweak for the Air2 ! Have tried many times over last 48 hours and it stubbornly fails to to update ! Must have a Drone made on a Friday

Are these adjustments taking effect only while you're filming?

Because it would be nice to have the fast settings until you're filming just for flying around.
Then slower when you hit record.
All the time. But you can have different speeds for different modes, so maybe use sports mode for flying then normal for filming...

Ian I have updated the App and firmware and on my Iphone I now get the zoom functions and also the better battery Icon. It looks as though the Ipad Mini does not have the update yet. Do you know anything about this

Judging from the comments, it's being rolled out selectively. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling or just wait a day or two...👍🏻

Try going to the app via your app store and aee if it's available for update. And if you're really keen, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
