  • King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is one of the most prolific bands of the past decade. Releasing about 20 albums in the past 10 years. In this video you will see me dive into the band and listen to all of them...

After releasing a few EP's in their younger years, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard burst into the scene with their energetic debut 12 Bar Bruise. At the time though, no one knew how loved this seven piece band would become. After releasing a couple amazing albums like Float Along - Fill Your Lungs and Oddments, the band started to make a name for themselves in Australian. But it wasn't until after the release of I'm In Your Mind Fuzz when the band started to get international recognition. Combine that with releasing an all acoustic album title Paper Mache Dream Balloon and an album that loops infinitely called Nonagon Infinity, the band quickly became loved by many. And they never stopped either.
In 2017 the band decided to release 5 albums. They held up to their promise releasing Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of The Universe, Sketches of Brunswick East, Polygondwanaland and Gumboot Soup. The quality of these albums showed that the band weren't just focusing on quantity but proved that the band really cared about the music that they were putting out and were never afraid to experiment with new sounds.
They took the experimentation even further after that.. Releasing the bluesy-boogie inspired Fishing for Fishies, then the thrash metal inspired Infest the Rats Nest, then the dream pop inspired Butterfly 3000. This band never stops working and it was a pleasure to experience all their music for the first time.

@@KyleReidMu even as a metalhead whose favorite KGLW is Infest the Rats Nest, I was incredibly underwhelmed by MOTU for a long time. Eventually though something clicked and I was able to go back and enjoy all the insane riffage. I think it helps to appreciate or at least understand the kinds of goofy, low-budget sci-fi and fantasy movies from the 60's and 70's that MOTU is an homage to. It's easily the campiest Gizz album, and I think that's a turn off for a lot of fans. But like I said, once I was in the mood for it, I realized some of their most incredible guitar work is actually on that album. The whole Altered Beast suite is a rip and is the next best thing to Nonagon if you want more of that specific Gizz sound. Still not in my favorite albums, but I appreciate it a lot more than I used to.
As for Infest the Rats Nest, wait until you have to drive somewhere during another one of these "historic" heatwaves that seem to happen more and more frequently these days. I guarantee there's no song that's more of a banger for when you are inescapably aware of the climate collapse caused by the greed of the mega-rich than Self-Immolate.

Wow this video was a really fun watch, and your takes were pretty damn good. I really liked the editing and your delivery, solid stuff. If you ever do plan to return to the trash can tier you might find more to enjoy than you’d expect, because I’ve probably never seen someone online who has as similar of an opinion on the bands music.
Once I’d heard Rats Nest a handful of times, the heaviness was easier to look past and it really started to click, especially the second half. Omnium is one of my absolute favorites, and I get a lot of the same enjoyment out of it and Gumboot that you mentioned with KG/LW and Oddments, with the variety and wider range. And personally Murder of the Universe didn’t work for me much at all until I was clued in to a lot of it being metaphors for never ending growth or even just capitalism in general, with the concepts of “being altered” representing that constant greedy drive that’s been fairly normalized. Before that, the album was a little too aggressive and sometimes a bit mean spirited for me.
Just some fun thoughts I wanted to share since you clearly spent a while listening to them and making this. Good work I’m excited to see what else you make

Gizz is easily my favorite band of all time and I disagree with the majority of your opinions but it's cool to see people become new fans of Gizz. With so many albums in so many different styles it makes sense that there's so many differing opinions within the fanbase so even if we disagree on a lot it doesn't really matter cause in the end it's all Gizz. Glad you like Nonagon though. That album absolutely rips and is easily one of my favorites to drive to. One thing I've found with this band is a lot of their albums/songs tend to grow on you after a while. If you're into live shows I highly recommend checking out their performances on youtube. They're easily one of the coolest live bands today

I officially declared Omnium Gatherum took up the number one mantle for me. Seen them play live twice and already booked to see them at red rocks in October. It’s interesting that my two favorite albums didn’t hit well with you. Everyone has a preference and gizz has so much music everyone can find something they like! Great video dude!!

I'm a massive king gizzard fan so it took me less than a second to click on the video after seeing the thumbnail, for the most part your takes pretty much align with the majority of the fanbase (even tho putting FMB and omnium gatherum/murder of the universe this low seems crazy) i think listening to 20 albums by only one artist/band in such a short time can be kind of too heavy to really appreciate every nuance and really get into every style they've been exploring (it took me some time to get the spoken word narration on murder of the universe for example/not being that much into metal myself i had a hard time with ITRN before really enjoying it) so i would advise to come back to the albums you didn't fully enjoy from time to time without necessarily listen to a whole album in one sitting ofc. Anyway great video, super entertaining editing as usual + we gotta appreciate JSRF soundtrack as background music!!

The curse extended with a lot of shipments of Timeland vinyls being broken or somehow fucked up and when ROTCOT (Return Of The Curse Of Timeland, the successor to the Timeland festival) happened, they announced a crew member having gotten sick with Covid shortly after.
