Bjork released her first album Debut in the early 90's with some amazing songs such as Venus as a Boy and Big Time Sensuality. After the success of that album Bjork released her second album Post which was even more exciting than the already exciting Debut. Post had some great songs on it like Army of Me and It's Oh So Quite. Then after releasing two albums that were kind of all over the place in sound Bjork released two albums that kind of focused on one sound. Homogenic and Vespertine are considered her two best albums.
After the large success of her first four albums, Bjrok started releasing more albums like Medulla, Volta, Biophilia, Vulnicura and Utopia. In this video I'll be reviewing Bjork's entire discography. Almost like a Bjork Tier List but not really. More of like a Bjork Worst to Best but in a really weird way of ordering it

I ❤ Bork. Especially her first and second released albums. Watching from London UK.
A video discussing every album you would consider to be a 10/10 would be pretty neat
I think so too!
That's seems to be an ongoing trend recently on RUclips
her later discography is very different then how it was but it’s still great
bro her music just became more her as she got older. it's definitely out there but then again she's also my favorite artist of all time
I'll definitely have to go back to her later releases and see if my opinion changes
@@KyleReidMu and it's absolutely okay if it doesn't :)
i thibk ur wrong lol, she definitely gets harder to listen to but the “quality” is absolutely still amazing.
That's ok. I probably just need to digest them a little bit more
you gotta simmer in it fr
@@KyleReidMuI truly feel like bjork is one of the only artist that the more you listen the more you enjoy it. Think of an artist like Cudi where the first time you listen him it’s an experience and it’s the exact opposite of that.
her latest albums are the best imo 😭 and Utopia is my favorite ✋
Utopia is my favorite as well 😭... studing with this album is so magical
Hell nah, she has become a better and more unique artist the older she got.
Utopia gets so much slack but I think it is top 5 Björk albums. She never dropped a bad album. Her quality is somehow always rising but it doesn't make the past works bad or mid. She is thee artist that could never be replicated
whats ur personal top 5
WAKE UP THERES A NEW KYLE UPLOAD!
the live track on debut is there's more to life than this (live at the milk bar toilets), it was literally bjork singing ON the toilets of a club called Milk Bar while, the unreleased instrumental was playing over the system inside
She moves from the dance floor to the toilets to the outside
She is art her music is art music is art and Bjork music is true art I think she don’t really have a bad album.
Take a deep breath
fossora absolutely bangs how dare u.. i think her work after vesp is harder to get into but vulnicura is her all time best :((
vulnicura defo not best ever but still up with her best
I didn’t like Fossora at all on first listen. It took several listens. I think watching the videos helped. Now I really like it. Volta is fire when you watch the Voltiac tour. She even said they were written with performing live in mind and they are awesome live
@@bluetickgamer YES to understand Volta you need to listen to the Voltaic live
Great video as usual! I was expecting this video because Björk is at the moment my favourite artist. I had a similar experience when i first listened to her discography 2 years ago, but with time and more listens i started to aprecciate all her albums and see the Beauty and Genius in them. Keep On the good content!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video :) I'll keep listening to see if anything changes
@@KyleReidMu Maybe the best choice might be to get more familiar with the albums you already enjoy (her older records) and after some time revisit her most recent material. If You are interesed in knowing about her production choices and themes You should hear her podcast series where she revisists every album and gives that extra information. I didn't need it myself to enjoy her music but that might be useful for you. But if You still don't connect with her newest sound that's ok too!
when you said 'buh-jork' I died
Post is def my favorite Bjork album. The Chex mix analogy is spot on
Biophilia, Vulnicura, Utopia, Fossora sweeties i am so sorry……
He did Biophilia & especially Vulnicura soooo dirty
Bro when you mentioned "Big time sensuality" on Debut on 4:50 you really made me fall in love with this song. I didn't really care for the song at first but damn you changed my mind.
OHHH MY GOD NEW KYLE VIDEO
love the video ! interesting to see someone go through her discog for the first time (hope some albums grow on you :P) and would totally recommend listening to some arca!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I'll definitely check out some arca
Lol vulnicura is on my top 3 bjorks albums 😭😭.. I think volta, debut or even homogenic is the boring one, yeah they're catchy, but i also get bored very easily listening to those 2, or maybe because I'm just more into experimental stuff, and for someone who's very new to bjorks music..listening to all of her discography all at once must be very hard ... you're at least gonna need more time to digest them if you're not used listen to music like her later stuff
I really like this comment. I was six when I first heard post. I grew up with each album. So I definitely feel like I experienced her growing up with her as she matured, evolved and changed. That being said, Fossora was a hard album to get through.
Let's go, Kyle Reid upload
Joga literally changed my life
based video man. would love to see you do a video on ween’s discography one day
5:20 IIRC the final version of There's More To Life Than This was recorded in a club bathroom, probably as a different spin on what a "live recording" actually means.
Woah that's really interesting
Are you just more used to songs that follow traditional structure? That’s how it seems since Björk’s newer stuff tends to be more fluid with the structure of her songs
No that can't be it because I tend to prefer songs with more fluid and linear structures
WAKE UP BABE NEW KYLE VID
Homogenic is my absolute favorite bjork album as well, with me also not being able to fully get into her post-Vespertine work. I'd say Bachelorette and then Unison off Vespertine are my two favorite songs of hers.
Try to listen to her podcast where she goes over each of her eras. It gave me a new perspective on Biophilia and Volta
you should give a chance to the Arca Self Titled album, Bjork pushed Arca to Sing for the first time on a project, and the result feels so haunting, beatiful and depressing at the same time!
I broadly agree with you. Post Vespertine Björk doesn’t really do it for me - although I am liking Fossora (possibly just recency bias). Those first 4 albums feature some delightful melodies and I feel that’s been lost as she’s focussed on atmosphere and texture. Homogenic and Vespertine manage to do both.
Her later discography is less catchy but it's so rewarding. I love Vulnicura and parts of Utopia.
i think what makes me not love the newest albums as much as the earliest ones is the fact that she doesn't sound as playful anymore, her vocals were the first thing that made me fall in love with her music, she would come up with insane melodies that would go straight to my heart. but like you said, there's still a handful of great songs from the newest albums. i easily go back to Stonemilker, Blissing Me, Mutual Core and Wanderlust, probably the key songs from each album for me (haven't picked one for Fossora yet)
Flaming Lips I think would be a great band to do a discog video on, as they dabbled in so many different sounds, and pulled a lot of great material out of em
Agreed
I like that idea. I love Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin
id really like to see a deep dive into machine girl, bladee, or elliott smiths discography
We're doing this at basically the same time! Biophilia is on my list today
Enjoy!
One of her songs in Debut was actually in a hitman/crime drama movie called Leon The Professional so I can definitely see where you’re coming from.
have you thought about doing a dive on they might be giants? despite having so many albums over the years, they've stayed consistently quite good.
a video on the 3 october albums from king gizz would also be cool when those are all out.
I haven't considered a they might be giants video but now I'll consider it
This was a fun watch. Honestly, if you red-orange this review video in like 10 years, I bet you'd be surprised how those skips and disappointing records will change for you. As you are exposed to more and more soundscapes, the texture of Björk really expands. She's kinda a scholarly musical listen at times.
You are 100% correct. There have been so many songs of hers even on the early albums I would skip. Then months later I randomly hear it and am like what album is this on? Next thing you know it’s on my playlist
I completely disagree with your take on Biophilia. I love the breakdown in Crystalline!
Björk was the frontwoman from the sugarcubes she’s now a solo artist
I would definitely recommend listening to ARCAs music, it's really interesting and no one sounds like she does. The KiCK series was absolutely amazing.
4:46 holy shit for the first time
True!
very curious what you'd think of Lingua Ignota, I've been playing her CONSTANTLY
I've been recommended her before! I should check her out
We have a vulnicura defender! That albumhas some great tracks
No way vulnicura is boring 😭😭😭 some of her greatest compositions electronically and classically, with her best songwriting in her entire discography. Plz try again
Yes yes yes
Woud you dive into more Swans albums for next videos? :D
That's a good suggestion!
My ranking:
10. Fossora (Ancestress is arguably her best song since Vespertine but one of her weaker albums overall to me. Didn’t love some of the mixing and songs could’ve flowed together better.)
9. Utopia (A bit inconsistent and long even though there were some good ideas)
8. Volta (Has some fun songs but one of her more poppy and less adventurous albums)
7. Oceania (Has some fantastic vocal experiments but some songs like Ancestors)
6. Biophilia (Like the astrology themes and some of the darker sounds on this album with songs like Hollow)
5. Vulnicura (The strings on this album are incredible and one of her best albums lyrically. Songs like Notget and Black Lake are incredible)
4. Post (Love how colorful and eclectic it is. So many fun songs like I Miss You)
3. Debut (There’s just a certain youthful energy I love to this album. It just sounds so happy and charming)
2. Vespertine (This album is a world of its own with its wintry soundscapes. A lot of amazing choruses on here and great lyricism)
1. Homogenic (Feels very alien and love the volcanic beats mixed with the strings. Songs like Bachelorette, 5 Years and Joga are gorgeous)
It’s called Medulla not Oceania…
Pretty based list. I like it
Hey! You should do a video where you review the nervous young men albums
Listen to Arca’s discography PLEASE
Man, I really love Vulnicura :/ I respect your opinion though Mr. Kyle. Do you like any Earl Sweatshirt albums? My little brainz would like to know :)
I like a few of his songs but I've never dove into a full album. I should do that one day
Homogenic is definitely one of the greatest albums oat, what do you consider a 10 Kyle?
To me, I think a 10 is an album that just feels completely unique from other music that I've heard and is executed in a beautiful way. Another album that I'd call a 10 would be Deceit by This Heat
@@KyleReidMu dayum, what a pick. Just as I was getting mad with some of your Björk takes 😅😆
it's not everyday I come across someone who loves "Deceit".
so bjork is just car seat headrest if will toledo was not will toledo and instead bjork? no thanks, I'd just rather listen to csh at that point than listen to someone ripping off will toledo
I need more dad reactions Kyle 🎃
They'll be coming
Now do weezer
It's on the list
Pre-Sugarcubes Bjork projects are all awesome. Her first album is actually from 1977 (she was 11; it was a children's record). She was in a few punk and experimental bands before the 'Cubes, which are all pretty dope. Her Jazz album, Gling Glo, is also badass. Drawing Restraint 9 is otherworldly hard to get into, yet has one of my favs. Selma's Songs was pretty good. She has a lot of what I would call "Winter" albums -great for that time of year.
what would u consider her 'winter' albums. just curious
Vespertine, for sure. Selma Songs. Medulla. It may just be me and my geographic locale that makes me think of Winter for these albums,@@prepositioned; I know Vespertine helped me through some cold, dark, lonely winters.
@@cliffrockalliance9071 Im gonna explain some stuff to you and basically the entirety of how i got into björk. I recently went on a trip up north USA to wisconsin, i live in the south. We go up there for Thanksgiving and although its still fall, they see snow. We never get snow down south, just frost. Well, I collect records, we stopped at a record store and they were playing really loud music. I heard Pluto playing and I asked my mom "Is thay Björk?" My mom hates björk. She said, "I dont know but kets get out of here." She was super stressed. I found the song and listened to the full album and fell in love. I started listening to her whole discog. When we were on a trip more west of Wisconsin, I listened to vespertine. You could see how cold it was outside. The album was perfect for the landscape. Vespertine has been one of my favorites through my whole Björk journey. Sorry for the essay but I just find it interesting.
Hey I know it’s unrelated but I feel like your dad listening to American football lp 1 would be good
Icl Vulnicura is my fave album but i get can kinda get your point, especially on Utopia. I still gotta get used to it
vulnicura and fossora (heartbreaking and dead) are really good albums, youre just happy. break up with your gf and go to funerals or something
Fossora = Dead? LOL
lol
KYLE PLEASE LISTEN TO ARCA, I FEEL LIKE YOUD HAVE A LOR OF GREAT THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HER MUSIC, kick i is a good place to start!!
Will do!
there's more to life than this is recorded live in a bar and parts of it she goes into the bathroom
Super interesting. Thanks for explaining!
Every time I hear Bjork's partner mentioned from Vulnicura, I have to recommend you check out his Cremaster films. With zero context.
Gen z when they hear something that's not drill and 45 seconds long: iTs TeRribLe😭😭😭
You should react to/review/talk about Alex G; a lot of his work seems right up your alley, if you haven’t already listened to him.
Great idea!
Björk is cool, this video is cool, you're cool and cute bro (;
Can you do a deep dive on Dan Deacon? 💚
I looove Dan Deacon!!
utopia is so so so pretty so me i love that album so much omg i haven’t really listens to biophila tbh not my fave also HOMOGENIC IS SO GOODDDDDDD LIKE PLUTO??? bruh that song is so good live like omggggg
Also going through Bjork's discography at the moment but only gotten through her first three so far.
3. Debut - Good and really catchy. The first half is way better though and is definitely frontloaded. (3.5/5)
2. Post - Love the jazz stuff here. It's Oh So Quiet is simply addictive. It is even catchier than Debut and it gets better after each listen. (4/5)
1. Homogenic - Basically Post but even better. The strings are very good. Need more listens though. (4.5/5)
Seems about right
UPDATE UPDATW UPDATE UPDATE PLSSSS
Like someone in love is top ten Bjork for me.
based "Vulnicura" opinion. I mean, I don't think it's boring, its just one of those albums that have to click. "Quicksand" is THAT song tho😌 my favorite album closer of her by far. and "Fossora" is great. maybe I'm still influenced by hype, but I definitely like it more than "Utopia", and I've already listened to it way more times than "Vulnicura".
also, I will never argue with someone who thinks "Vespertine" is her masterpiece: it's truly one of those albums that you can't quite compare with nothing else. I've always thought it sounds like the kind of radio-friendly pop it sounds on another planet, and I still believe it's the future of pop music even tho nothing gets remotely close to it, even 21 yrs later. BUT, as much as I love it, there are some moments that take me off the vibe, whereas "Homogenic" it's an album I wouldn't take a single second off of it. So I'm with you on the "Homogenic" side of life.
Just wanted to take that off my chest because I've been thinking about it a lot lately (?) so thanks for lending your channel for spitting out our thoughts 😌 can't wait to see her live on november 😭
Quicksand is your fav album closer?? Over Unison & All Is Full of Love??? Dayum.
I think Quicksand or Triumph of a Heart would be my favorite album closer. I looked up some videos of her performing live and she sounded great so consider me jealous!
@@f4gsforpele oh man, "Unison"... ok maybe not by far 😆 what a masterpiece of a song, and the ending feels like heaven. I think that "Unison" serves as a summary of the whole concept of the celebration of falling in love that is "Vespertine" and brings it all together in this monumental song. But what I personally like more about "Quicksand" is that is such an unexpected ending to "Vulnicura". After all the pain, the broken heart and the dramatic (?) strings, she brings her mother to the picture. I understand she wrote the song after her mother had a heart attack but I like to believe the song is also about protecting your legacy. I see it as an uplifting and optimistic ending in a weird way: not the "everything's gonna be ok" optimistic but rather a "there's more to life than (this😏) what hurts now" kind of optimistic, and that we can use the pain of today for inspiration in the future to make a difference, either in ourselves or on a larger scale.
I never was the biggest fan of the album version of "All is Full of Love" tbh. It has everything for me to love it but idk, maybe I'm still waiting for something different to close "Homogenic".
@@lauchalz1 respectable take and a great explanation. I agree on Quicksand for sure, it’s one of my fav closers from her but idk where it would rank because across all of her albums Björk has had stunning closers (if we ignore My Juvenile from Volta, imo).
The reasons she’s such a special, unique artist are probably also the reason you don’t connect with her newer albums. She’s never been interested or content with rehashing what she’s already done and has basically reinvented herself on every album. I admire that about her but I understand why some may think she lost the plot or whatever
You should listen to tragic they need more following
Like someone in love is the best track on debut, tf you on
0:49 , i closed the video so quickly
Deep dive into U2?!?!?
Possibly! I remember there was a U2 album that came out in the 80s that I really enjoyed
@@KyleReidMu Unforgetable Fire? That album is awesome!
I think Homogenic is her best album.
local
her music didnt take a quality dip she just made music she likes and it just turned out not to be music for the masses
channel name change?
Yup! Gonna have something cool coming pretty soon
@@KyleReidMu I hope it's new music, I love pretty much everything you've released already.
@@danielprofeta Thanks, I appreciate it! New music is coming soon but not as soon as the other thing
to say you hate vulnicura should be illegal I-
Björk is so good... her music rules
1. Vespertine
2. Homogenic
3. Medúlla
4. Post
5. Utopia
6. Vulnicura
7. Biophilia
8. Debut
9. Fossora
10. Volta
Pretty good list. Although I'm sad to see Volta so low :(
@@KyleReidMu Yeah sorry, it just feels messy and all over the place inmt opinion. Fossora too which is why is so low : it sounds like Volta (Ovule), Medúlla (Mycelia, Trölla-Gabba), Utopia (Allow) and Biophilia (Fossora, Victimhood) all at once. All the others ones from Debut to Vespertine are gold in my eyes.
I clicked off as you started talking about vespertine as chronologically that's the next of her albums for me to listen to
I love the green screen I don't know who does the visuals or the terminology but I like it alot it's old school but gets to the point also some of the images are alot of fun-(specifically during utopia)
Big Time Sensuality is one of my favourite Songs
I was shocked Post wasn't her peak after listening but Homogenic is masterful
Also Arca is great I've only listened to her first 3 albums but there very easy listening I find-(I might be doing it wrong tho)
I'd love a video of you checking out the Cocteau Twins or JPEGMAFIA-(including Devon Hendryx)
But that's just me im sure other subs will want something different
Jpeg would be a fun one! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@KyleReidMu @Kyle Reid Music I'd love to hear your thoughts on him
Personally I think "Peggy da Goat"
I think he's the best in Hip Hop & one of the best Artists in music
Indefinable & Idiosyncratic
He's a animal been dropping classics for a decade(while touring)
Not to be a Hipster but If you've not heard it I'd recommend the Ghost Pop Tape he released it 5 years before veteran & it was relatively unknown until he got more popularity
It's a beautifully twisted album very personal & dark really unlike anything else he has dropped
He's said he was remastering it a couple of years ago
It's just a sublime album imo & one of the best/favourite I've heard
A mix of rapping & singing
It's hard to describe I'm doing a bad job if reccomend it tho
Kle rid
Black lake is her best music
kyle reid. what IS this vido. why would you rank bjönk albums so. low!??? personally i love a lot her music like a lot of it personally, soooo it makes me a litle MAD when you donot like herr music, yes? iiii like her utopia and new album mufasa and thought it was pretty good and think you should give another try herr albums
I'M SO SORRY! I'll definitely give her later albums more listens in the future. They just didn't really stand up that well to her earlier work imo
Not Mufasa 😭😭😭
Björk rhymes with jerk, not JORK
listen to sugarcubes bro it’s too funny
lol ok
I'm sorry to say that, but you just didn't get Björk and her art... It's just not for you, that's ok!
It's crazy that you mispronounced literally everything
lmao
Pronounced "Byerk", rhymes with "jerk".
Ahh good to know
Second
u just dont get her 😭😭
VULNICURA BORING???
Later Björk is better. If you get it you get it
You definitely need some time to get into it all, you don't even know the names man...
You don‘t really understand her artistry
No
stop talking all together please and thank you
L opinion sadly
so rude

I'm a massive Bjork fan, but I must agree with your take on early vs newer albums. I feel like she was so ahead of her time for so long, but in later albums it just seems like she couldn't keep that amazing futuristic ability and things just got weird or felt like she was reaching back into her old bag of tricks which now is just that: old.
