Check the ignition switch itself, My dad had a 56 and that switch caused some starting issues. Also it does have to be in neutral to turn over. It's that cool Thunderbird fender badge that tells everyone what's under the hood! Have the original engine rebuilt and restore it to its original glory!
the small wire on ur solenoid is from your ignition that's what engages your solenoid that's not going to make that starter engage if it's bound up or whatever but that will get your key switch working
I have a 55 victoria, not a crown , I put a 406 and 4spd in it like 40 years ago , 390 , any FE bolts right in and is so much nicer than those old y block 272,292,312 engines, I put the disc brake kit on with the power booster kit , also added vintage heat and air conditioning, I love this car

That was painful to watch. I see you got advice on how to jump the solenoid and that is the main issue. I’m in Alaska and have about 50 classic cars I’m working on. I prefer the body and paint but do a bunch of mechanical stuff too. I hate electrical and to old and out of shape to get under dashes any more. Ford went 12 volt in 56 and did not go back to 6. I had an.old F150 & the solenoid was not grounded good enough. The solenoid was grounded thru the mounting & truck was rusty. I add a ground wire from the battery negative to one of the solenoid mounting screws.
There is a complete playlist for this project. I encourage you to check out those videos. But to answer your question, It is a 4 door, 1956 Ford Fairlane. Coral and white. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Not sure if you figured it out yet or not. But the Ford O-Matic transmissions like the one that’s in your car from the factory will only start in the neutral position. But you can come off of the column right there by the engine there’s a switch if you jump those two wires together it will start in any gear including park
Yeah for some reason Ford thought that was a safety deal. I guess it made sure that you had your foot on the brake pedal. Not sure why. But there was a couple other vehicles during the year model I believe Chrysler did not have a Park just neutral. And if you’ve ever seen any of the old GM vehicles the reverse was not in the same position as today you would have to pull the lever all the way down for reverse. Your car is a three speed Fordomatic. But if you drive it you’re going to notice that it starts in second gear and shifts one time to third. You have to manually put it into first gear. Your car can also be push started. Although I do not recommend it.
@@muchgooderish If the transmission is good it will push start. And the reason that it will push start is because that transmission has a rear pump that turns off of the driveshaft. So if you pull or push that vehicle around 20 mph in neutral when you get up to speed pull it down into low gear it will spin the engine over. I haven’t seen all of your videos but the 1956 Ford was the first year for 12 V system for Ford. It is negative ground. I personally have a 55 club sedan that has the same transmission that yours does. I also have a 1956 Victoria that is three speed on the column with overdrive.
Try bridging solenoid post to starter lead, with key on, that will energize the starter and spin the engine over. All you were doing before was spinning the starter motor,. Bridge it with a screw driver.
We haver had updates since this video. Long story short, I was doing it wrong. Error corrected, and starter is working great now. Many people fight with starters freezing. lol We appreciate the comments, advice and you viewing.
Short out the solenoid from the positive to the exiter pole that should spin the starter in the engaged position The reason the y blocks didn’t oil well is because the cam bearings would turn and block the oil passages
