I am late to the elephant party. I just happened on this and jumped in as I hadn’t finished cutting the fabric. I ❤️your hint to sew all the trunks as chains. I have the trunks done now and two elephants sewn.
The 2nd pair of scissors you shared are kitchen shears. In the middle of the scissor is a bottle opener. I have the same ones from my wedding shower in 1977! My handles are red!
My mum had these, I haven’t seen them for years, so nice to have a lovely , but funny memory. She treasured them and we always got scolded if we took them out of the kitchen!
Hello this is Mary Ann from South Jersey I am a quilter I am working on my first fan quilt I going to our local farmers market I saw a garden flag that had breast cancer symbol on it I have included the flag in my blocks with the quilt of the fan I'm wondering when I get the quilt top done and I send it to be quilted will they be able to quilt through the garden flag or will they quilt around the flag I won't know until I get the quilt top done I've only got six blocks done of the quilt so far thank you for sharing I think the elephant quilt is so cute I enjoy your videos I love to quilt thank you
Oh Pat...I'm so glad to hear you just basted your Stay at Home Quilt...that's what I'm just about to quilt!! I've cleaned by sewing room and done other stuff...cause that's the next thing I have to do...kind of dragging my feet...but now that you said that, I hope to sandwich it in the next day or two and I picked a sewing notion edge to edge pattern to quilt it! Now I'm excited! I made it with Tula Pink notions fabric.
I think our stay at home quilt is my favorite from 2020! Like many, that's also when I started watching youe daily videos. It's hard to believe it's been almost a year! Be well.
We love our toys And that elephant is adorable. Your out west us amazing. I have a stay at home quilt. I made 2. Gave one away. I would.love to make another stay at home. I love your elephants. I got rid of 8 boxes today. No sewing. Time to reorganize the house.
I just received the pattern, so I haven't started. May have to wait because I signed up 2 different UFO challenges, and I have 8 for those plus several other UFOs to finish. My "Stay At Home" is on the list - doing mine in Christmas. Yes to the UFO push in February. Thanks for keeping us motivated.
I was so glad I got to see your video. Yeah I got the center of ELEPHANT STOMP done, will do the boarders tomorrow. I would like to do a block a day ✂️. Oops sorry dinner is ready. 😳
Hello Pat. I absolutely enjoy your enthusiasm and teachings. Is there any where to get elephant pattern?? I don't have a credit/debit card. I would need to order with a personal check. I would love any help with this. Thanks.💖💋💌
My mom's "good scissors" were Wiss and I received a pair for a birthday gift from my cousin about 50 years ago. Good scissors. Even her pinking shears were Wiss.
Oh goodness-that elephant!!! Elmer Elephant :) haha How cute is he?? And those scissors-what great gifts. I have my mom's Pinking Sheers & just looked at them & they are Wiss CB-7!! Winner! They are on pg 11 of the flyer you linked to. Those sheep are darling, too :)
Would hurry home to watch the Musketeers and I left the Vampires to my grandmother to watch but heard about it when I visiting her. I'm not for sure but think your Wiss scissors you have are kitchen one to cut up chicken and to open jars in the middle. My MIL had a pair she use for that purpose.
Just now watching some of your older videos, Pat. I am wondering if you ever did a video with your free motion sit down quilting machine that I see in the background here? I don’t see it in your newer videos. What’s the story with this machine, please!
i have the machine in the other room. After I broke both my wrists I was not doing any freemotion so when I get back to it I'll have it out. It is a fabulous Tiara from Babylock
Pat, I see you've got a blanket stitch on the binding of Out West. How do you get it so even on the underside of your stitching. I mean, it's perfection. I can almost do it well if I'm using a straight stitch, but I'd love to know your secret with the blanket stitch. Many thanks. I'd also love to know how the heck you manage to get so darned much done! Do you have a few clones? Does Greg sew??? LOLOL Good grief! I'm truly impressed! Don't burn yourself out! Thanks so much for sharing. Although I've been sewing for almost 60 years, I still learn something from you each time we visit. Please take care and as usual, hugs from Canada!!
Bummed I missed the live chat . I love your plan for the elephant stomp quilt -so cute. Should row one have 2 elephants facing each other , like 2 and 3 or is that the pattern? I’m saving this pattern for a future grand baby since my daughter loves elephants. I’m making pinks and blues and will finish after baby comes-our families have had a few “surprises”-(expecting girls, got boys-lol). Appreciate articles!❤️
Forgive me if you've covered this elsewhere, but I am in the market for a new sewing chair. If you can recommend chair you're sitting on, will you provide information on it? It looks sturdy and comfortable.
Your Stay at Home quilt is looking great! Do you have enough of the blue middle border fabric left for the binding? I think it would look good. Thanks for the "intersection" tip. Cheers!
I'm assuming you machine sew your bindings, If so, how do you keep the stitching even on the binding on the back? When I've tried that method. It never looks good on the back of the quilt. I have actually used clear thread and made the binding wide enough that the stitching is on the quilt on the back rather than on the binding on the back.
On the Out West quilt did you use the blanket stitch on the border? If so could you show us how to use the blanket stitch on borders? Your quilts look great!
i did! you can find my tutorial at my website on how i do my binding by machine patsloan.typepad.com/quiltershome/pat-sloan-machine-binding-tutorial.html
i had a whole video on the setting with photos of the screen the other day . on my Solaris it is 5 & 1.6 but you machine might be very different. Those numbers do not translate exactly.. you need to stitch to see whatworks for you
@@PatSloan I have a Janome sewing machine and I bought your book on machine quilting... I’ll give those settings a try.... it’s just the perfect look instead of straight stitching... thanks.!Sorry I missed that video...where was I ?😆
Trying to do just one elephant for a friend. Can you help me find the directions for just one. I did purchase the pattern but seems confusing for just one. Thanks a bunch
"Dark Shadows!" I used to watch that after school. I guess you could call it a horror soap opera. hahaha If we were to watch an episode now we'd laugh at how dated it is.
For Christmas, my new husband gifted me a set of Guggenheim shears and thread scissors. And an exercise step. And 2 volume set of "Dictionary of Serial Killers" ..... 🤔 hmmm...
Hi all! I just finished up making the last of my 600 half square triangles! Tomorrow I’m going to start putting them up on my design wall and arrange them into heart shapes! It’s going to be fun.
Actually that is not true. 😊 the trunk being down is one type of luck, trunk up is another type of good luck. I did the research.. Really just being an elephant is good luck.. thanks for watching my video!
I love your daily videos but seeing the "Join my Community Quilt . . . " pop up in the screen 10 TIMES was excessive!! I get your message the first time and don't need more then 1 reminder - thank you. I found myself read the pop up and not paying attention to what you were saying.
Have you shared your elephants at my website?

I absolutely love my stay at home snowball quilt. It has such meaning to me.
I love all your cute fabrics on that stay home quilt. Sew cute!!!
forgot to say your 2 blues are a good color for you and the pearls are definitely a keeper too.
Those Wiss scissors remind me of my lovely grandmother. She had scissors like that!

I like the serpentine too my machine does it .Your quilt is beautiful
I'm putting the sashing strips in between the elephant blocks. They are adorable and I could definitely make more than 18!
Pat I love your quilting and quilts. Thank you for the tutorial on how to avoid creases at the intersections on crossing quilt lines. ❤️
My mom's "good scissors" were Wiss and I received a pair for a birthday gift from my cousin about 50 years ago. Good scissors. Even her pinking shears were Wiss.
I need to get my quilt finished too!!
My very first scissors for sewing was WISS dress shears for 7th grade Hone Ec in 1963. I still have them and still hold a good sharp edge!

So cool!

So much good information, thank you!
Your elephants are adorable!
I’m working on my ufo’s 😊😊😊
You can make pillows for the bed with the two extra blocks!
Thank you
Can i be your friend for the elephant pillow. 😘 lol. So cute

You are so welcome!

Evening from Va! Pat, I’m watch through the June daily’s and I just want to yell or put in the chat “Pat, be careful, don’t go for a walk”
Gold on bottom row. one move to beside red one and shift all to the left to avoid the two pale pinks on top of each other.

Where do you get the pattern for the elephant ?
Those vintage scissors look like they have a grip hole in the centre. Perhaps for cracking walnuts or opening a bottle
go to the PDF I gave you, it shows you what they were used for
Oh that is marvellous. What a lovely gift. I like the little hook for lifting bottle caps too. I bet Greg would like to get his hands those scissors 🙂
I think I would move the 3 blue vertical ones that are toward the right side. Move one of the repeated fabric to a different location in the herd.
On the Out West quilt did you use the blanket stitch on the border? If so could you show us how to use the blanket stitch on borders? Your quilts look great!

Is there a pattern available for lobster quilt I think it’s called in the background.?
Hello from Wisconsin
What are your stitch settings for your serpentine stitch...love the look! Thanks so much!😍
i had a whole video on the setting with photos of the screen the other day . on my Solaris it is 5 & 1.6 but you machine might be very different. Those numbers do not translate exactly.. you need to stitch to see whatworks for you

It is nice for a child

it is right in your pattern on the diagram. Look at the sizes
Is there a tutorial on how to do the elephant
Pat has the link for the pattern in the description area. You can buy the pattern at Fat Quarter Shop.
Hello from Indiana
Can you do the serpentine with walking foot?
Most definitely! That's the way I do mine.
"Dark Shadows!" I used to watch that after school. I guess you could call it a horror soap opera. hahaha If we were to watch an episode now we'd laugh at how dated it is.
Me too! Barnabas Collins was so tragic! Cursed by that Angelique...I was just the right age for that type of story.
11 elephants so far!
For Christmas, my new husband gifted me a set of Guggenheim shears and thread scissors. And an exercise step. And 2 volume set of "Dictionary of Serial Killers" ..... 🤔 hmmm...
Good evening inNJ
St. Thomas, Ontario
Is a green Elly not acceptable for this?
You can make any color you want! See my FB group for loads of colors
Bottom row, I would shift the red elephant to between the two blue ones
Hello everyone from Nv
Hi all! I just finished up making the last of my 600 half square triangles! Tomorrow I’m going to start putting them up on my design wall and arrange them into heart shapes! It’s going to be fun.
My mom has...probably still does, the Wiess scissors in her kitchen. Red paint and all!
Elephants with their trunks DOWN represent bad luck. Elephants with their trunks up, represent good luck. I will NEVER make this elephant quilt.
Actually that is not true. 😊 the trunk being down is one type of luck, trunk up is another type of good luck. I did the research.. Really just being an elephant is good luck.. thanks for watching my video!
