I store my fabric by size of the piece.......less than a yard, one yard, 2 or 2 1/2 yards.....this helps when I have a make a quilt or a bag that requires that amount of fabric; this gives me the option then to look into my stash of bigger pieces of fabrics and it has really helped me concentrate on what I have to use in my stash.
Planning on making my elephant quilt for my grand daughter to remember her sweet time in Africa as her daddy served our country. So excited to be using my precious friend Wendy’s pattern.
The majority of my yardage is sorted by color. Christmas, batiks, some novelty and kid fabrics are separate. I have a large inherited stash, plus what I purchased. I use plastic stackable drawers for storage. The overflow is in large tubs under my long arm. As the drawers get emptied, I replenish from the tubs. Recently I realized my 3 drawers of blue were each half full. So I sub sorted by light, medium & dark. Next I pulled all the blues from the tubs and replenished the drawers. A medium size tub was eliminated. My goal is to empty the tubs so I can use that space under the long arm to store other sewing/quilting items that don't fit in my work room. Fat quarters are on a shelving unit.
Well, it seems that pat suggests a cute pattern and I go to get material online and of course it’s a ‘notify me!’ I found that out with a lot of the QALs.
I store yardage, by color, in my mother’s Hope Chest and leftover scraps in bins by color. The only ones separated are Christmas and reproduction era prints. Christmas prints because of their focus and reproduction prints because they are my favorites. My only other real category is fat quarters. Love the size and versatility and love that colorful bin. I have a few 🤭 and am a bit goofy, I admit.
Oh my! Where to start??? Ellie is just adorable :) WILL be "doing" the sweater block-probably into a pillow, too. Just pre-ordered your book!!! Once again loving the hydrangeas. And always enjoy seeing your house.
I have been wanting the Jolly Bar books. I was hoping Fat quarter would make a bundle deal if you bought all three. Maybe through you Pat? Love you blue and white theme. Your living room so cozy
I love that starch! It's a super fine mist, no endless pumping, just smooth continuous spray. Gives tremendous hold. I got 4 cans of it on Saturday and am already down to 2 cans, after getting ready for your Home Is and another QAL. I'm trying Kimberly Jolly's starching method to see if I can improve precision.
A horizontal elephant quilt will be great. If you could make a 6 inch one it would look like a baby and they would look like they are walking in a line to the watering hole
I wasn't going to do this one but Pat you convinced me when you said " just try one block" about the sweater quilt! So I'm just waiting for the pattern to be delivered. Can't wait to give it a go!
I downloaded the sweater pattern, and will be doing that later this year. I’m looking forward to doing the At home block Wednesday quilt. Can you share a link to the yoga or to her RUclips channel? Thank you for your time and inspiration!
Iris Tyler Pat references it as an "asymmetrical" quilt (like the Solstice pattern). Maybe you can look that one up on her website to see how that was done.
I use regular starch too. When I used Best Press I would just start to cough and cough. I'd have to get up and walk away. I just seem to be sensitive to some things.
Pat, your blouse co-ordinates with your rolling assistant carts ! I love the school house quilt. Where can I find the pattern ? The sweater pillow is adorable and your blue/grey quilt is very pretty.
I made me some boards with discarded foam board and some left over batting glued to it ..... it really helps me lay out my blocks. you can buy them .... but I am a real cheapskate and made them instead :)
Love how your pink elephant block "Ellie" looks like you fussy-cut the large flower to look just perfect for a big eye and long lashes. Was this intentional or luck? Your living room looks lovely with all the blue quilts (Verrrrry cozy I think). Can't wait to make my elephants. Great idea about the rectangular quilt to go over over your bed. I also have a tall headboard and never would of thought about making a smaller quilt to fit the space between the top of the headfboard and ceiling. How many rows of blocks are you thinking of making yours?
Going to make a baby quilt with the elephants. Ordered a pdf of pattern and I am ready. Using blues from Morrison Park and adding some of my stash. Ordered extra of MP background. I love that fabric !
As you spend so much time in your sewing room and get so much sewing done I was wondering what Greg does during that time. I love to sew and spend time in my sewing room but my sweet husband is left alone. Not sure what to do about that. It’s gotten worse with the isolation of this COVID virus. Any suggestions?
I invite mine into the sewing room to help me decide colors or easier ways to cut things. He usually brings his Ipad and plays games. If your husband usually watches TV while you sew, consider adding a TV to your space and that way you can be together, but both be doing what you like to do.
I love the blue elephant. I am going to have to double the elephants. For a ex dil. She is tall. I love the elephants. I'm making reading pillows for my grandkids. I like the red pillow. Yiur living to ok m is beautiful.
I was SO happy to finally go thru a huge laundry basket full of quilt scraps. It no longer takes up residence in the living room!

It’s so good to see you being able to use your wrists again. I can’t even imagine how hard that was to have both hands incapacitated- hugs to you
Your living room with all your quilts/pillows is beautiful!!

I love how you talked about changing the Skyscraper quilt to better fit your needs. Patterns can be modified!

Thank you for the hints. I was having a lot of trouble with the tiny pieces.
Hi Pat ❤️, I love the Monday night chat. Ready for Home is !
I have a quilt made from the same blue/white/gray fabric. Going on my longarm this weekend. I made my quilt queen/king size for my bed.
i bet it is beautiful!
I store my fabric by color families. I have a lot of plaid in different colors that I keep together. I am excited to start Home is...!

I took a few minutes this afternoon and made a scrappy strip block with scraps and it actually does not look too bad.
Oh I have been out of pocket I love the elephants
I sort by color but I have a Christmas bin and I keep my batiks together
Oh that's pretty, Pat & it will match your other blues really nice!!
Can't wait! Just finished cutting my elephants out. Planning to stitch them as I work on the LQS sample.

Hello from Indiana I'm not doing the elephants waiting to do the home quilt along
I sort by colour, dark to light. The only sub set I have is Christmas. I keep my flannels separate too.
I downloaded the sweater pattern, and will be doing that later this year. I’m looking forward to doing the At home block Wednesday quilt.
Can you share a link to the yoga or to her RUclips channel? Thank you for your time and inspiration!
Love your pyrex!
Will 'Home is' be all the same size blocks? I would love to have a quilt with different size blocks!!
Iris Tyler Pat references it as an "asymmetrical" quilt (like the Solstice pattern). Maybe you can look that one up on her website to see how that was done.
I love your living room.
You can find the pyrex at some thrift stores. I like them.
Love your videos
I have all the elephants cut out along with the sashing. Ready to piece.
I’m doing the yoga as well.
I use regular starch too. When I used Best Press I would just start to cough and cough. I'd have to get up and walk away. I just seem to be sensitive to some things.
Good evening from Oklahoma !
I would love to see how the sashiko machine works. Could you do a short video using it?
I love the top uou have on! Tell me where you got it please!

It’s September and just now cutting out my stomp. Well since I’m a Alabama “Tide” fan I’m making mine with 11 elephants and they are grey.
have fun!
I just cut out my first Elephant Stomp block. Please give us some tips on how to keep organized with all these small pieces.
I laid them out as best I could like the block pattern on top of each other and sewed them one by one. It was easier to stay organized that way.
I made me some boards with discarded foam board and some left over batting glued to it ..... it really helps me lay out my blocks. you can buy them .... but I am a real cheapskate and made them instead :)
I would love to see what thee Sasiko machine does!

Distraction, yes happens to us all.😀
Is there a Chanukah quilt in your new Holiday book?
Very nice
The elephants are cute
What time Mondays for live chat please.
I would like a simple house pattern. Do you have one?
Is the stitch called sashiko as well as the machine?
Where did you get the 3 tier shelves from. I would love to have some in my new sewing room..
Going to make a baby quilt with the elephants. Ordered a pdf of pattern and I am ready. Using blues from Morrison Park and adding some of my stash. Ordered extra of MP background. I love that fabric !

Hello from Ohio!
Hi Barb. I’m also a Barbara from Ohio 😊
I love the blue elephant. I am going to have to double the elephants. For a ex dil. She is tall. I love the elephants. I'm making reading pillows for my grandkids. I like the red pillow. Yiur living to ok m is beautiful.
