Are you going to sew elephants with me? Details at Article at blog.patsloan.com/2020/12/-roll-roll-roll-how-to-make-an-elephant.html
Those elephants are so cute!
Sorry no elephants. Thinking I’m going for the jelly snowflake. Been to busy with gift making going to make me seasonal quilts, runners, pillows etc nin 2021
Behold the turtle who only makes progress when she sticks out her neck...turtles are great! Happy Holidays!
YEAH! The 2 hook sizes smaller was the happy medium for you 😊
Thank you Pat! Love you too!
Thanks for sharing this. The idea of using a layer cake is what has convinced me! I have layer cakes I've been intending to use and this will be a great way.
Greetings from Johns Island, SC where Pat inspired scrap busting has been keeping me busy and happy!
Love watching you every day. I learn so much. Keep on showing new things to do and stay safe.
Hi Pat! I joined your FB group today! I’m a new quilter and look forward to checking out your site! Cheers! ~M
We could also do a small flower. I love the idea of a heart. The advent calendar is beautiful.
Merry Christmas ! Thank you for the planning guide and daily quilting inspiration. The guide will be helpful as we continue to settle in for the next few months of this "isolation". Thank goodness four quilting community! 🎄🎀
Pat, thank-you for facilitating such a positive and productive group during this global pandemic. You lift our spirits and provide an opportunity to experience community in a time where making human connections is more difficult than usual.
you are so kind, thank you 💗
Pat, I’m glad that you’ve found the right gauge for your crochet. I’ve only ever done super basic appliqué. I’m not sure I’ll be able to see along, I have so many projects already going that I have to get caught up on. But I love seeing and saving the patterns!
Thank you for these videos. So nice to hear about the quilting.
Using the Color Catchers really help a lot!
WOW!! Let's see what to comment on first :) LOVE the advent calendar, love the ones that the numbers are not in order. Think that would be more fun & challenging for the little ones :) The turtle---I used to collect turtles back in the day! Mostly smaller hand-blown or glass ones, but had a great variety of what they were made out of & can't tell you how many I used to have :) Don't know yet if I'll do the elephants, but adding hearts to anything is my way of thinking, too.
I love seeing your crochet project. I’ve made a lot of Afghans and I think the pattern you are using looks like fun.
I wash all my fabric mainly because I always make pyjamas for my grandsons, then I put the extra fabric in my quilt stash. I just don't have enough room to store washed & unwashed fabric. I don't wash precuts except fat quarters. I do wash those. They go a little wonky sometimes, but so far I haven't had a problem. If I think I'll run out of fabric on a fat quarter, I will just buy two. I am starting to starch & I really like how the pieces go together.
What is the specified lavender for? I couldn't find a reason for it.
Good evening from NJ sitting sewing while waiting for Pat 😊
I love that blue sweater! It is beautiful!
I'm looking forward to the mystery quilt in January !
Unfortunate that FQS can't keep fabric for it in stock.
I'm going to be relearning QuickBooks and Excel because I will be the treasurer for my guild. I haven't spent any time with these since retiring. I'm also setting a goal for yoga & walking. My other big goal is to build my savings, increase my creative productivity. Thank you for the Planning Guide.
great goals
1 am using the planning guide..
Plan for yr day. Yr next month..
Plan for Birthdays etc.
I did pretty good following yesterday and today.
How do I fine the sew along for stomping ground. Am I too late? Not finding on your blog.
we did the Elephant over a year ago, you can see the project page at www.ilovetomakequilts.com/elephant-stomping-ground-sew-along.html
One general thing I have heard is that if your piecing is all straight lines, it looks good to quilt with curved designs and vice-versa. But you're right that each quilt is it's own case. It also depends on the purpose of the quilt how densely you want to quilt it.
The elephants are so cute but I am so far behind in projects I started I feel I might skip making it but get the pattern and take notes on how to make it.
Thankyou for sharing
Greetings from Victoria BC Canada. Which city is Shirley (who sent you the card) from?
Got mine all cut & sewn into a top. However, I somehow messed up one row and just left it. So, the whole top is not the way I wanted it. Ugh. Had the top with diagonal lines like you mentioned. Oh well, hopefully a child will enjoy it anyway?
Evening from Manns Choice, PA! Blowing snow & cold here.
What do you wash your quilts with? What detergent?
Hi all from Newcastle in the UK where it’s almost 1.30am and it’s raining.
I watch your daily videos & have learned a lot. One additional reason to prewash fabric is to ensure shrinkage has already taken place. Different fabric lines, depending on the quality of the fabric, can shrink more than others, so if you put them all unwashed in a quilt you may be surprised at how the shrinkage effects the “washed” quilt. Also, I was taught, when precuts first came out, not to mix prewash fabric with unwashed fabric in the same project. Do you agree?
Q&A - can you talk about the digitally printed fabrics that are coming onto the quilt market? Example, will the colors fade over time? Are the prints consistent throughout or do they fade in & out? What would be some advantages to using digitally printed fabric?
Thanks, Nancy J
Greetings from WI. How is everyone tonight?
Your layer cakes are 12 inches, not the traditional 10? Nice!
You can starch layer cakes if you don't need to use the full 10 inches as it will shrink up to an inch.
I have a lot of projects to do and I have always heard that if the elephants trunk is down they are not happy. A friend collected elephants and would not have any with the trunks down ??
i have never heard that Judy and I read a lot of elephant things.
you said a layer cake is 12", aren't they 10"?
Yes, they are 10” squares.
this was so helpful thank you
Still waiting for Morrison Park fat quarter bundle to come back in stocks. May have to order two layer cakes instead.
I do a lot of straight stitching on top stitching my quilts.
Helpful video but I’m kinda bummed at the lack of actual help with the stomping ground block.
for the other Joyce who asked about what type of of quilting on the fabrics like stars sorry but just do what your want on them and it will probably turn out good.
Sour dough bread. Use the starter from Breads from the La Brea Bakery.
Hello from Southeast Louisiana!😊
Hi Pat, I have a question, I have bought fabric that I like but don’t have a pattern yet so I didn’t buy any backing or binding fabric. My question is what do you do about purchasing the backing and binding fabric, once you figure out the pattern you want to make, and that fabric group is no longer available? Thank you Pat for all you do, I’m a fairly beginner quilter and I am learning a lot from you😊
Hi Kathleen! I’m not Pat, but what I tend to do, since most quilts I make are twin-size or smaller is order 2/3 yard of a coordinating fabric for binding (which will make enough 2.5” binding for a twin) and 1 and 1/3 yards of a border fabric (enough to make a 5” border on a twin). If I end up making a smaller quilt, I either add the excess fabric to my stash, work it into my backing, or use it to make coordinating pillows.
@@pkfamily7297 thank you, that is very helpful, how much do you order for the backing if you could help with that also? Thank you 😊
Hello from iowa
