My elephants are ready to stampede! I've been to Africa and watched the biggest herd head to the water! Elephants walked right up to our safari jeep. Baby elephants hid behind momma's legs. I'm so anxious to make this quilt of memories. I have a table cloth purchased in Zimbabwe that will be my backing. I'm also making one elephant block wall hanging for the couple who were on our trip with us. I'm ready!!!
Karen I'm so envious of your trip. It must have been amazing to see the elephants that close-up. These creatures HAVE to be my all time favourite with whales running a close second. My son-in-law is doing tattoos in his spare time and (at 71) I've requested he do a baby elephant on the inside of my forearm. I'm sooooo excited I can't stand it. I'm also going to try to squeeze in the Stomping quilt. Pat has me doing a number of quilts, but I think I can do ONE more! LOL Have a great New Years and all the best for 2021.
My word of the year=resilience! I’m slowly finishing the Cozy project and waiting for my Elephant pattern in the snail mail. My late Mom Loved Elephants so this one is in memory of her. Happy New Year 🎊 2021 so thanks Pat Sloan, for giving me happy projects to look forward to!! Love your border and binding too using striped fabric adds a special touch to those quilts

Your Jane Stickle quilt is beautiful. I don't make modern quilts. I don't even buy modern fabric. I am a Judie Rothermel fan and buy her fabric or other traditional fabric. I watch your programs, sometimes, to learn techniques.
I have had left wrist surgery. Having right one in several weeks. Boy it has really knocked me off my quilting and hand stitching. In Feb. I will be starting some physical therapy. Hands are painful or post-operative weak. I have an entire humbleness about your breaks. Happy 2021!🎊🥂
I love mitered corners and make them often. My elephant pieces are all cut out and ready to sew! I used yardage and I found that one 5 1/2 inch strip by WOF was all I used for the prints. Each strip will make 2 elephants. The ears and tusks I will cut out of a different fabric.
OMG - I've been trying to come up with my word for the year - have a few so far and "Do" is one of them, also Productivity; Progress; so I have to pick one soon. Your Jelly Roll is very cheerful. Chocolate always helps my attitude. I'm planning to make the Elephant (soon).
You're going to love the sourdough experience. I have two loaves in the refrigerator tonight and will bake them in the morning. Let me know if you need some starter!
I would love to make a jacket out of my 2 1/2" squares. As I go along, I've been stitching these squares in between some serious sewing. Problem is, I'm looking for a pattern and don't seem to have a good idea of what I want. Definitely boxy with a manderine collar, big enough that I can use a light weight batting and "lining". I'll get there one day. I've sewn my own clothing and that of my daughters so sewing clothing isn't foreign to me. Congratulations on finishing your 1997 quilt!! LOL. It's a beauty and one to be cherished. But then what quilt of yours isn't a beauty!! Pat you are my biggest enabler and I love it. Thanks for all you do, Happy New Year and all the best to you and Greg for 2021. Hugs from Canada.
@@peggyisme Hmmm never heard of Madewell. I googled it and I think you mean the clothing itself that's "boxy"? I was going to "make" fabric and then cut out the pieces needed. How did you see Madewell doing?
@@cindymcfarland4686 That's exactly what I'm looking for. I wouldn't use the sweatshirt or star blocks. I want to use up my scrap squares. But the style is definitely there. Thanks so much, Cindy. Is there anything this community CAN'T help you with?? LOLOL Happy New Year!!
I have never tried mitered corners. That needs to go on my list for new things to learn for 2021. Can you show how you mounted your curtain rod that hangs your Crush quilt?
“Do a tutorial!” “That was it...” That cracked me up😄 I loved your expression! But actually, I do have a question, do you hand sew the lower part of the hanger to the backing? I would assume you have to but it’s the first time I have paid attention to the idea of putting on quilt hanger.
Hi, my grown grand daughter loves elephants and I would like to make her a quilt for next Christmas. I am new at quilting and on my second one, Jacobs Ladder, learned a lot, I’m not new at sewing. Please give me some help on finding fabrics and pattern. I enjoy watching you. Happy New Year.😍

My word of the year was “DO” in 2018. I focused on do for self, do for others, do for God. This year my word will be transform.
I love elephants, what a cute pattern.
My word is finish! I need to get a lot of blocks into quilts and finish them. Thank you Mrs Sloan. I love you too!❤️

Your mitered border look very nice Pat!
I made the Loyal Union Sampler by Jennifer Chiavarini (sp?). They're were 120 blocks, 6" finished. A lot of work but it turned out so nice!
I have picked out the FQs for my elephants & am looking forward to constructing them 🥰.

great words to pick from!
I have become so fond of striped fabric.
I am so excited to get these elephants started.
Love the dyed aida. I am thinking of dying some 16 or 18 count Aida because I prefer to stitch on it. You are inspiring me to jump right in.
I have my elephant pattern ready to go but am still hunting for fabric. Santa brought me a rolling assistant 🤩
You're going to love the sourdough experience. I have two loaves in the refrigerator tonight and will bake them in the morning. Let me know if you need some starter!
I have changed my mind about using Morrison Park fabric because I will probably give the Elephants away and I want to keep the quilt I make with it.
I was sew excited, so today I made 6 elephants for a baby quilt. Forgot to make some mirror image, so i will sew some of those tomorrow!!
For your sourdough discard, freeze some of it. That way if your starter dies you'll have a backup.

I am going to make a jacket based on one made by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts. She has a RUclips tutorial of hers.

@Pat Sloan, Did you fussy cut the head of the elephant, its so perfect. As if the Fan leaf is its eye! Love it

Hello from Concord, NC
“Do a tutorial!”
“That was it...”
That cracked me up😄 I loved your expression!
But actually, I do have a question, do you hand sew the lower part of the hanger to the backing? I would assume you have to but it’s the first time I have paid attention to the idea of putting on quilt hanger.
Katrina Yes, you hand sew the lower part of the sleeve to the backing with a whip stitch.
think about it, no way to do the bottom of the sleeve by machine, you would see the straight line on the front, right? it is by hand
How do you sew the elephants the opposite direction?
I used to dye my black jeans after they started to fade
What’s a flimsie (not sure of spelling)?
It is a completed quilt top that has not been sandwiched and quilted.

Pat did you fussy cut the head on your elephant the eye and eye lashes of with the one flower looks like you planned it. Very cleaver
For your word of the year... how about "experience...."
What size would you do the hanger for quilts?
Fyi - Elephants with their trunks going upward is good luck.
