Religious differences almost BROKE us | OUR LOVE STORY

  • Part 2 - "What are your religious differences?" is the NUMBER ONE question people ask us, and here is part 2 of our response to it. Our religious differences were BY FAR the thing that made our love story the most complicated. How would we raise kids? Could we get on the same page? What does God want us to do? Is love enough? These were just some of the questions we faced and it was tough. We obviously got through it, but it was not easy at all. So, in this RAW & UNCUT video we’re going to talk about what our religious differences were, why it was so difficult, why it mattered to us, and what our approach was in dealing with them.
If you're in a relationship or a situation that seems impossible and you can't see how it's going to work, then we hope our story inspires you. Not every story is meant to have a happy ending, but ours did and we're so grateful. Please let us know what you think in the comments.
Also, this video definitely builds on our "How We Met" story, and “Our First Date” story so if you haven't watched those videos yet, make sure you do! 🙏🏻🙏🏽 As always, make sure you subscribe to our channel, turn on those notifications and watch our other videos. If you have any questions or video ideas for us, let us know. We'll do our best to make it happen. Thanks for rocking with Bretter Together! Love y’all.

Awesome video. I do admire you both. By the way you handle your life shows depth, deep faith and true love. When I listen to young couples willing to go deep to define their relationship, it humbles me and strengthens my faith in the future of this world. For me it's not about religion, but as you have been saying, putting God first and with faith everything will eventually fall in place. Keep on doing the work. You will help others define their relationship with God themselves and with their partner in life. God bless you both.

God has called you both to be light and salt. Your love for God and your transparency is a testament to God's love for the world. May God bless and open doors so that many may examine God's ability to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can ask or think.

I am Orthodox Christian and my son's father is Jewish. We celebrate both with the same fervor and I listen and learn with my son because it is important that he lives the faith above all without animosity or pressure. He remains in the love of God of which he is a reflection for us beyond the differences 🇨🇵🙏

Thank you for this! Your story is very similar to ours. My husband and I have been married 7 1/2 years and have 3 children now and doing the work and putting Christ at the center of our marriage makes us stronger. But like you said it hasn’t always been easy. Do we have everything figured out yet with our religious backgrounds? Not 100% but we have a respect for each other and our faiths (which is more similar than different). Looking forward to hearing how you do church and how you’ll raise Daven. We currently attend both churches (sometimes separate but mostly together as a family). You two are amazing people and I’m so glad I stumbled across your page. We are actually headed to Branson for Spring break.

Thank you for sharing your testimony. Like Mina, I have a background in the Pentecostal church but after college I left the church I attended since I was a baby and joined a non-denominational one. Eventually I left that church too due to a prophetic word I received from my Pastor which involved moving out of state. Went to another church but I eventually stopped attending church altogether in 2019 and since then God has been breaking up the foundation my life was built on by walking me through the truth concerning various traditions and false teachings we were taught in those churches. I'm 37 now and I desire to be married and even feel like God has spent the last 6+ years preparing me for it but not knowing where to fellowship locally. This definitely opened my eyes to the reality that I was still living with limiting beliefs instilled in me from childhood. Yes interfaith marriage has always been touted as taboo, but I think you both addressed the underlying issue that is really at the heart of the Father when His word talks about not being unequally yoked. That distinction between interfaith and interdenomination was helpful because there are certain groups that I wouldn't have considered to be a different denomination within Christianity because of the stigma that is around them, and yeah Mormons was one of them.

This is the first that I've ever heard of a Mormon quoting scripture from the bible instead of from the book of Mormon. Hubby seems geared more toward Christian teachings than he does Mormon. He definitely has the gift of teaching.😊

Enjoying your channel. Gods wisdom and truth are universal. I appreciate you sharing your family's story of Christian faith application being transformational in your lives. Its light filled even when it's hard to see that in the midst and feels like you are lost in the dark. Faith takes that mad trust and patience to wait for His timing. Walking the unlit path with crazy faith feelin nutty sometimes. Then it becomes illuminated not just for you but everyone you share with. His plans are to prosper you. His promises are real. Great to hear how you walked it out. My prayers for you along your journey! Psalm 119:105 😊 Many Blessings

I'm thankful for the spiritual aspects of this video. Thank you for always encouraging prayer and fasting, and following God with earnestness. May He continue to lead you into all truth by His Spirit. You have the Spirit if you believe in Christ and obey Him (kindly see Acts 5:32), and that is how He leads you and transforms you. Kindly read prayerfully 1 Corinthians 12:4-14, and you will see that there are different spiritual gifts. Not everyone needs to be the same. That doesn't mean you don't have the Spirit. I see in both of you the words of wisdom and faith. We will always be safe if we thoroughly study His word and let Him guide us always. And He will continue to guide you and I as we continue to grow in Him. Love and prayers 🙏

I really don’t want to comment because my son and daughter say I try to write a book. You will always be confronted with good and negative comments towards your relationship/marriage, being black and white. Some of the comments that you will be confronted with from the “Bible” may not be the true words of the Bible! Especially concerning blacks and whites marrying that was a law made by the Southern whites and passed by congress to prohibit whites and blacks marrying. Intermingling continued even after that law was passed. You two love each other that’s what counts that is one word that is used many times in the Bible you to work out the church situation between you two and explain things to your children when they are older enough to understand and decide or love both churches. There are people that are not happy in situations because of church and stop going because of family disputes over religion and they don’t go to church or around their family. Love is what counts and if you are happy, it’s depressing if you love someone and because of color and religion you can’t love the person that’s why there are so many angry people in the world now!!

Thanks for this comment Eve! It’s a common understanding that Mormons are not Christians and many Christians do not accept Mormons as Christians. But the actual name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and while there are theological differences between Latter-day Saints and many other mainline denominations, Latter-day Saints (Mormons) very much believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation and seek to center their lives around Him and His teachings. It’s this commonality Mina and I have in the centrality of Christ that allowed us to build the bridge between each other. Thank you so much for watching. We’re so grateful to have you on our channel. 🙏 - Brydon

aw thank you both for your vulnerability. To even admit that there is still tension that is unresolved before marriage and you're still trying. There are so many things you dont fully know in the relationship but one thing you do know is that God has called both of you to be his children and to be together. united in the flesh. you still seek to obey God despite of all the rejection. Jesus was persecuted, especially in his hometown. I pray that despite the tension you grow closer to Jesus through your suffering. That in the "weaknesses" of your relationship, Jesus Christ's glory shines all the more.
I pray that God gives you the wisdom as your relationship is definitely a unique case. In my conviction, I wouldnt marry someone who I am unequally yoked with (besides the foundational belief in Jesus). But I can see God is working through you both in ways you cannot see. Despite the internal and external conflict, remember in psalm 18: God is your strength, your ROCK. your redeemer.
The song says, "yet not I but through christ in me."
God will rescue you from the pit as He did the first time he called out to you and you surrendered. Jesus said, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand." (john 13:7)
