This will only helpful for a few months to a year at best. Clean any debris stuck behind the rusted area and spray it with Fluid Film, Woolwax, or Surface Shield once/year or the rust will just come back worse than it started.

A little frame rot never hurt anybody
just make sure to clean that dirt from the inside, it's usually what keeps moist and the reason for rusting over there
Magic eraser works too
They do work, but magic erasers have been known to strip paints and varnishes off of some surfaces. Just gotta be careful!
What if I have a small hole in the panel that is causing the rust?
You can patch holes using bondo or any similar body filler. Check out ChrisFix RUclips channel. He has a great video on patching rust holes
Search Fluid Film on RUclips. Spray that in the hole before patching or the rust will continue to worsen.
