Mad4Motors ive never seen a professional auto repair shop use csn spray paint .
I have rust on fender on my 2000 Chevy Astro what's the steps for me to do I sand it down. To the bare metal but in the middle it's soft a little but when I feel behind the fender it's no hole or nothing but it's under even now do I need Bondo or what I don't know never did this before
Mad4Motors do you need to buff it after it fully cures about 2-3 weeks....?
rattle can master, my buddy built a basic motorcycle based on a wide glide, he had about 6 grand in it. rattle can painted the tins with Wal Marts best. It was sharp. looked like a nice customized wide glide with an S & S motor. sold it for 12 k. thanks, some people make it look like brain science.

Having done the same type of repair, I would like to share some advice:
- Use an acidic rust neutralizer to get rid of the rust you couldn't sand off
- Use a zinc protector spray before applying the filler (the filler is full of water)
- Do not wet sand the body filler
- Do not sand down the whole part to clear coat it, try to keep the repainted area small
- After a week of so wet sand the whole piece with a 2000 sand paper then polish (the paint color will then be uniform)
Michael Henriks yes filler and water no good
Only thing i don't agree is not to wet sand the body filler...
Aaron Hudson water in the body filler will not only make the metal rust but also crack overtime. Your choice
I think that's what I did wrong when repairing rust spots in my 2010 F150. I sanded it down Bondo primed wet sanded to get smoother finish painted and clear coat. for someone who's not a profession that came out pretty well looking!!! until 6 months later rust start the show through! now it's about a year later and it's getting worse. I wasn't sure what I did wrong but now I think I do.
Michael Henriks. Hey thanks for your input. I'm getting ready to do some work and will definitely refer to your suggestions.
I hope you're getting paid fairly by RUclips, because you sir are a legend. Another brilliant video 😀
This video saved me 900 quid. I done this sort of thing simular to my car. Ok it's not as good as this but it looks 90% better than it did before. Thanks so much
Good effort at home..But, you should remove all the rust first inside and outside ie remove the arch liner at least to do this. You have not removed any exterior parts and eventually the paint will flake from these areas. You have filled over the rust and have also used water over bare metal and filler that is porous. An acid etch before primer will also help to keep the rust at bay.
You did an fantastic job with the tools at hand and have given many people really good knowledge on what you did, keep up the good work .
So a tiny bit of rust, in the end you did the whole wing that will stand out like a sore thumb
Well done mate. Nice tips there and for the novice with a runabout this is more than fine!!
Good eddort
thank you my friend you've saved me a fortune !
Intelligent overview of rust & paint job. Looking forward to more videos.
Nice job! Have done this in past, only problem even with the "rust stop" over rust within a month it will bubble from behind fender. Loosing battle, nice to do if selling car right after doing it.
True ideal if you selling or use the same process on a new fender
Great video man!!! I’m about to try that on a whole skid steer
This is a great cheap and cheerful repair for a car that you are trying to get another year or two out of.
Rust treatment and primer prior to filler. Don’t use any water until you flat your final coat otherwise you risk trapping moisture and causing further corrosion. Don’t mask panel lines on the same plane - blend.
You can get a ready painted new wing/fender for £95 delivered here in the UK ( not sure how much that is in USD ) but to me it’s just not worth bothering by the time you’ve bought the paint/bondo etc you’ve spent half as much if not more than a new one
Great video for a quick temporary fix but a few things.
1. Always treat the bare metal with a rust inhibitor or zinc primer.
2. Your better of just spray the whole panel evenly with base coat to stop the blending showing through the laquer.
3. Once the laquer has hardened after 48hrs 1500grit wet and dry it till it's eggshell then bring back the shine with cutting compound & a polisher, it will come out like glass.
Definitely You tube is for people like you !!! Your video materials are helpful and very good.
Hi mad4motors i decided to try a similar thing on my focus mk2, didnt come out as well as i thought, still yet to polish but hoping ive put enough clearcoat on, i couldnt get the original shape back but better than it looked before haha
Fantastic. Appreciate this excellent guide. Please can you tell me what grit flappy disc you used in the grinder?
YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE THANKS! good job looks nice better than paying someone hundreds of $ to do it when you can do it yourself
Gostei do serviço "reparos" , achei muito bem feito , parabéns ...
Me inscrevi no canal ....
Oh my gossssssh!!! That is sooooo amazzzzing!! I hope I can find the colour code to my Nissan. What a great job!!
Thanks for sharing! 😊
That's bright the rest of it needs done it's a 20year old car looks a different shade of gold on the wing probably needs a polish to fade it in but good job on the cheap cheers mate saved me a fortune but my wing's are coming off the car and inside the arch is getting done aswell to last as long as the out side then back on to finish the filler n paint n polish after with good quality polish with very very fine grit 😎😎😎
what a result , top , got a 2 inch knock on my wheel arch i think i tackle it after whatching this , thanks
The rust will be back sooner than later because it's not near gone. It's evened out, flattened and painted over. And the painting with both color and clear coat should be applied with large movements from off of the part and over it all and out again in a steady motion. Never small movements pressing and letting off the nozzle while directed onto what you're painting.
The big problem here is usually the back side of the rust since the pores usually goes right through. I have found motorcycle chain grease in spray to be quite good in sealing existing rust and keeping it from growing. The inside should be cleaned with a steel brush or something to get the bare metal/rust exposed. Then sprayed with grease. And after some while maybe a spray with a rust protector keeping the grease from drying or getting washed off.
Excellent DIY tutorial...great job for $30. I have some rust bubbles on my 1992 Mercedes 500e (Chicago car all its life) that I will try this on vs. a professional repair + full respray. What do I have to lose. For you experts...I have ground down the rust to bear metal so how did rust develop under sealed paint and clearcoat??? Crazy.
Sounds like you did a good job
2 nap és újra rozsdás le. Ez igazi taknyolás.
Thank you for sharing,I feel more confident cause my problem is somewhat what you are showing .
Good job mate. Thanks!
What products did you use for stopping the future rust?
Thank u for this video now im inspired to do my rust issues by my self
Excellent video. You make it look easy

Rust in piece... Polaris.
Quick, tidy and thrifty job! 👍👍 Greetings from Oklahoma
I’ve recently stumbled upon your videos. They’re bloody great. All the best from the UK
Boss accent! nice job, quick and easy.
Good instruction. Thanks for sharing.
How is this repair holding up. Great video!
am needing to do the same myself, that was the dogs, so many experts out there, but looks a fantastic fix to tide you over.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and forget what you just saw... There are plenty of good uploads (some are even by professional painters) showing the average guy how to get a nearly professional job at home with rattle cans, on a budget... This is NOT one of those videos.
Not trying to be a dick here, but it sucks to waste time and money if you don't have much of either. Good luck.
@Mad4Motors how long did it hold? Thank you for your clear and informative videos.
Thanks for video will be doing this to my fender.
Bem que poderia ter a legenda kkkk mesmo em inglês, consegui entender e gostei do vídeo.
incredible job- thanks
No body shop will warranty rust repairs. You can spend thousands and have the rust still come back...This is a good video for people who don't want to spend $$$ at a body shop and still have the rust come back. I've done that before and it sucks.
What a beautiful job!!!
Do you usually wait turdy minutes before sanding the filler.
You make it look so easy but I can try on my car gotta touch up and area that got scraped against a pole above back passenger wheel well. My only issue is trying to find my cars colour match I got sand paper got the clear coat just need to find the base coat that matches
can you tell me, please what sizes did you use for the emery ?! I didn't remember very well from the video. I can also wipe it with kitchen towels if I don't have one.

Rust and paint DIY with Connor mcgregor.
What a minty comment lmfao
😂😂😂😂
Conna Mccloud of the Clan Mcloud
could you use a rust remover gel such as jenolite and normal sand paper instead of using a flat disc sander?
He did pretty good I'm just going to half ass my shit to stop the rust from putting holes in my fenders then paint it with spray paint
you did a great job but i advice to use mastic resine it is verry strong and it doesnt break by the time go :)
rust remover/converter must be used before the filler
Overall it looks really good. If you had spent a little more time those low spots on the seam could have filled.
use green fiberglass in the can its waterproof it will last longer than bondo but put the fiberglass first then bondo for the fine finish
Really enjoyed, will give it a bash myself thanks.
Wheel arch rust comes from the back side. Washing the mud and salt from the inside lip of all the fenders frequently will prevent this kind of rust from even starting.
Thank you so much for this! You are so good at what you are doing! GODBLESS
PAPABLESS
You basically can apply clear over sanded paint? As you did?
Great video, well done, good accent too
Nagyon fasza lett. Most gyorsan add el mert pár nap mulva átüt újra a rozsda
Love your videos, question: why would I use a grey primer?
You can see defects much easier with grey primer...mm
Is it possible to get that wheel arch cut out and have a fabricated one welded in? Cuz mine is really bad
Pěkná prasárnička. Vždyť ten blatník musel bejt orezlej i zevnitř. Za pár týdnů ta rez pěkně zase přeleze na ten venek.
Very good teacher you are!!
conor mcgregor working as a mechanic now i see 🤣
Thank u , u did a great job 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice job thanks for all the great tips
thx!
Good job 👍 I did the same great 👍 you do this so the rust won’t spread :)
Rust never sleeps
Should’ve sanded the rust down a lot more and even some good metal. This rust will come back fairly soon
Yes was just thinking the same thing . Also on a rust repair like this , the inside of the wing would need treated and filled to stop it rusting from from behind as that did not look like just surface rust, A quick fix that, that is all it is. Would be good for about 2 weeks, especially here in the UK
@@mwc66 Did the same repair on my mercedes and after 3 years it still looks good and i do live in a country where they salt the roads like crazy
Yep, such a half assed job
So you guys watch this video for the only purpose to talk shit to this guys work?
@@lamuerte60106 no I watched the video because it’s satisfying to see it be done righr
What do you do for overspray??
Thanks connor
how long time take from step 1 to finish ? how many hour will be all done ?
This video saved me a lot of money...thanks
Ok guys tips please so if I hand sand the rust off my fenders and wheel wells then use some body filler sand it will that work as quick dui
Great videos Mad4Motors 👍🏼
how did u blend the color?
Bien trabajo amigo te felicito gracias x mostrarnos tu trabago
Desafortunadamente su trabajo no es corecto. Uno o dos meses y él tiene que hacer de nuevo
A golf which is 04 and you sprayed one panel nice wee 50 grades of gold
Thanks, it wise . But i just need to know more about the red stuff used on your mixture.
That's just bodyfill hardener

Looks beauty bud. Very nice video.
It seemed like an overkill of sprays to me , but what do i know about rust
It’s awesome and really helpful
Enjoyed that but is there any hope for a vw polo 56 wheel arch! ...wish be luck..cheers
You are very good I wouldn't complain for a home DIY job, if u didn't tell me your a DIY I'd think it's a professional job 👍
What's a fella from the Irish bog doing talking about a 'fender'. It's a wing!!
Was that ordinary clear or 2k clear?
Nice!! I will paint my 2000 Camaro I don’t used so I’m going to practice!! And have ready to drive!!
Looks better than really good. It's a professional diy job,I'd a thought it went to a shop!
Thanks 😊
Hello guys, i was following step by step, but painted color is much darker like car color and it is obvious. Of course i bought color by the original code, but i think car color is lighter cause car is old and sun work hard. How to deal with it? Thank you for your advices.
How to stop rust what you recommend to me to use
Wats the name of the colour gold or somthing els ....plz tell me the exact colour coz i too hav the same colour car but cnt find the exact colour from near shops..
thanks for the instructions
Exactly what I need to keep myself busy these days . Thank you sir .
Will this process be completed in a day ?
You put only one coat clear lacquer?
I had this problem once, and the dealer told me the best thing to do is buy a new car, and then spray the whole thing with bed liner spray coating.
what kind if filler is that your useing.
How do you sand so fast?
