The same thing happened 10 years ago when I bought my Prius (before my first Tesla). I always bought used cars before that, but to my surprise, used Priuses cost *more* than a brand new one. Early adopters of the Prius didn't realize that they paid a low-volume premium that went away once Toyota ramped up production. A year later, you could get a new Prius just walking into a dealership, while used ones were still advertised for the same price or more than a new one. It made no sense.

My Model 3 raised my insurance by a whopping $75 every 6 months from my CR-V. I suggest anyone who had their insurance double shop around, because doubling your insurance is ridiculous. Some insurances still consider Tesla's an exotic car, which is why they are more.
Availability of parts and cost to repair are VERY significant to the cost to insure. Most insurance companies are on the hook for providing a loaner for you while the car is repaired. Add in the storage costs of the vehicle and that (I suspect) fewer body shops are able to work on them and the insurance costs are going to be higher.
Scammers exist in all walks of life. Thanks for the heads-up, Rich. For the record, people who paid the deposit more than 3 years ago are only now being offered the first RHD Model 3 here. Unfortunately, thanks to Tesla not thinking things through, it's not the base model, and is priced about £1,000 above the Super Tax threshold (meaning it will cost over £5,000 more in tax over the first five years, plus a corresponding insurance hike), so people are cancelling their orders in droves, and opting for similar range alternative EV's at lower prices.
Currently in the Netherlands: Model 3 starting at about 45000 Euro ($50000+) and 3 months waiting time. And that $50k is AFTER the tax credit/subsidy on EVs...

So many people lie, hide things and tweak or change things behind closed doors or have some ulterior motive to sell it and not good ones. So any help with ANY vehicle purchase- giving and disclosing full honesty and helping others get a good deal and truth- man that’s priceless for REAL! It’s not right how I’ve seen people do others just to “get ahead”, make money or know it’s going downhill but lie it off about some vehicle sold. They wouldn’t want that done to them! it's simple business math...... supply vs demand..... so if you have the convenience(sarcasm in Richard's Voice) then you can wait and have one built and possibly save money or if the itch is too strong you pay the premium on the used market. I sell XC40's..... the demand is unreal behind it and because a used market for it does not exist more than a few dealers or importers slap an extra $3-$7k on msrp... again another fine example of scarcity
Its a thing with a lot of desirable cars. Its not uncommon to find a 2 year old stock Wrangler have an asking price the same or more than a current year model with the same or similar options before rebates are even applied to the new one. Higher end trucks are the same way. People will list trucks a couple year old one for $5k off of new MSRP for a current model but you can often get the new truck for $10k or so less than MSRP.
I ordered my AWD long-range battery model 3 on a Saturday, and it was it was available for pickup ON TUESDAY. (I didn't get it 'till wednesday because i wasn't avail tues, but still). So... for the models shown in this video, the supply is available, so charging a "premium" for used is just absurd.

I think what got lost in this conversation is the fact that 95% or more of the used Tesla Model 3s on the market are overpriced because they were bought by people with the sole purpose of flipping those cars.

I helped a friend buy that gray wrecked 2018 model 3 at Copart. The seller made a little money on it and did a hack job to get it running and driving but it wasn't a bad deal.

I just got a 2022 Model 3. Every other car manufacturer had a huge shortage of available inventory, but Tesla had 100 long range Model 3s unsold and unclaimed in Florida alone when I walked into the stealership. There are also plenty of used Model 3s available, so I hope I'll be able to get a good trade-in value for my car later on if I ever do decide to switch. I will say this though, now that I've gone to an EV, I don't really want to go back to a gas car.
It's not shut all the way. The window is down a little. The window go down when you open and close the door all the way the window goes up. Obviously the driver's door was still open. I assume they where showing off the vehicle to stranger's that never seen a Tesla Model 3 up close.
Those buying the cars and flipping them are violating the law. If it was within one year I would just report the buyer so they cannot claim the credit.
Not true. First, there's no "within one year" limit anywhere in the tax code. Second, the tax form says: "You acquired the vehicle for use or to lease to others, and not for resale." -- if someone buys the car for their own personal use (during any time period, could be one day, week, or month), and then changes their mind and decides to sell it used, that condition has been met. www.irs.gov/instructions/i8936

Unfortunately, the new Tesla Model 3 with a price tag of +40K or +50K € is just not affordable here in Europe, even less in eastern. And used ones don't even lose there value, people are trying to sell them as new, which is ridiculous! Hopefully in 2022 when the Berlin Giga factory starts producing new cars, model 3 price will sell for 30-40K...

I found 3 wires you can switch around which allows you to operate vehicle with no needed key fob to operate which is crazy. I brought a Tesla model s 2013 with 283 miles all original parts and same battery with only 6 percent charge drop. One owner he told me all the tricks to keep it going . Charge 2 hours after driving, lube all electrical with dw-40 lube sunroof once a every few month. Lube brakes and take door handles apart snd lube

Its a thing with a lot of desirable cars. Its not uncommon to find a 2 year old stock Wrangler have an asking price the same or more than a current year model with the same or similar options before rebates are even applied to the new one. Higher end trucks are the same way. People will list trucks a couple year old one for $5k off of new MSRP for a current model but you can often get the new truck for $10k or so less than MSRP.
I ordered my AWD long-range battery model 3 on a Saturday, and it was it was available for pickup ON TUESDAY. (I didn't get it 'till wednesday because i wasn't avail tues, but still). So... for the models shown in this video, the supply is available, so charging a "premium" for used is just absurd.

You used an analogy with smartphones, yet if you reflect on the New vs Used market for iPhones(in some peoples opinion, the best execution of software/hardware.. i dont agree but pretty close) a used iPhone, depending on region sells for more than a new iPhone even with an almost endless supply or recyclable materials(i.e india, credit challenged market,etc)..... so basically it still boils down to SIMPLE BUSINESS MATH.. but like i said, I do understand your point.

I just got a 2022 Model 3. Every other car manufacturer had a huge shortage of available inventory, but Tesla had 100 long range Model 3s unsold and unclaimed in Florida alone when I walked into the stealership. There are also plenty of used Model 3s available, so I hope I'll be able to get a good trade-in value for my car later on if I ever do decide to switch. I will say this though, now that I've gone to an EV, I don't really want to go back to a gas car.

It's not shut all the way. The window is down a little. The window go down when you open and close the door all the way the window goes up. Obviously the driver's door was still open. I assume they where showing off the vehicle to stranger's that never seen a Tesla Model 3 up close.
Those buying the cars and flipping them are violating the law. If it was within one year I would just report the buyer so they cannot claim the credit.

Second, the tax form says: "You acquired the vehicle for use or to lease to others, and not for resale." -- if someone buys the car for their own personal use (during any time period, could be one day, week, or month), and then changes their mind and decides to sell it used, that condition has been met. www.irs.gov/instructions/i8936

Unfortunately, the new Tesla Model 3 with a price tag of +40K or +50K € is just not affordable here in Europe, even less in eastern. And used ones don't even lose there value, people are trying to sell them as new, which is ridiculous! Hopefully in 2022 when the Berlin Giga factory starts producing new cars, model 3 price will sell for 30-40K...

I found 3 wires you can switch around which allows you to operate vehicle with no needed key fob to operate which is crazy. I brought a Tesla model s 2013 with 283 miles all original parts and same battery with only 6 percent charge drop. One owner he told me all the tricks to keep it going . Charge 2 hours after driving, lube all electrical with dw-40 lube sunroof once a every few month. Lube brakes and take door handles apart snd lube
