Agree-this car is a time bomb-Teslas as used cars make no sense, especially with damage. Your honesty and transparency is refreshing. Please keep it up. Buying a salvaged car is one thing, buying flooded car is another, especially an electric car. Fyi cars float in only a couple feet of water, that's why that car was in the middle of the street. Good luck.
I would have very much liked the Louis Rossman collaboration. Judging from the two channels, I'd say Tesla and Apple are very much alike, Tesla is trying to avoid the right to repair as much as Apple is trying to stop it from happening to them.
Agreed, it's kind of surprising how similar they are. Also with Tesla's warranties starting to run out we may see more of the wear and tear problems that Teslas may have as opposed to rebuilds.
Probably the biggest reason I avoid Tesla. Repairing a car & modifying it should be a right. This is just anti-competition business practices which is designed to only benefit themselves.
The invaluable lesson you got from this experience was all you listed (regarding decision management) but even more valuable... you paid for the experience you’re going to need to fix any person’s problems they bring to you. It’s not necessarily efficient, but it’s an apprenticeship that you put yourself through in order to deliver the highest quality of service in the future.
True, but salvage titles never scared me. Do the wheels line up? (Can you get an alignment?) - does it run well? Everything works? I’ve never been scared of a salvage title...
Wow! You're so honest and demonstrate that even a genius makes mistakes sometimes. However, you have to realise the inspiration you give others...and that's pure Gold.
Range rovers can be a gold mine if the good money parts are in great condition, I got offered 3k in total through several buyers wanting different parts. for a; bonnet, rear tail gates, wheels, full doors, sunroof mechanism, air con controller and pump, original working H&M stereo and then the seats yet best offer for the complete running car was only 1,800 🤷🏻♂️
If you were a private citizen repairing this car then yes you lost money..., but you are RICH REBUILDS so that car is literally making money for you and driving people to your channel for comments and to check up....., its a win win for you actually but I inderstand you are coming at this from the common person perspective.
He doesn't earn that much. At a rate of an average of ~100,000 - ~200,000 views per video, and with an average of about ~500 comments, RUclips's tax that they implement (taking away money from what you earn) means he earns a lot less than what you think he earns...
This is a lesson that goes way beyond cars. I work on houses. It still amazes me that people think that fixing up a house always pays. "Well, look at how much work we did. Look how much we spent on the finest materials. How come we broke now? What happened?"
More people need to see this because there isn't enough transparency with other rebuild channels. The amount of people thinking they're saving 10's of thousands of dollars by buying salvage cars have no clue about the realities of a rebuild. I grew up around rebuilding wrecked cars. I've done 5 myself. Of those 5 I only made money on 1. I broke even on 2 and lost money on 2. It doesn't matter how much you plan for or how smart you think you are, you will get burned eventually. If you can't do the work yourself and do it properly then don't even waste your time. You're backwards before you even start if you think you can pay someone to do it for you.
WOW Rich, way to go!! I felt like I was watching an episode of The curse of oak island. Where 90% of the episode is regurgitated from previous episodes, 8% of it was questionable new content but probably just deleted from previous episodes because it wasn't very interesting anyway and the last 2% of the "New" content was still questionable but very informative and taught me to never buy a Tesla and stick to building Honda's. Either way I enjoy watching your highs and lows in this rebuild game. We Honda guys call it "BROKE". Broke lives, broke relationships, broke wallets, all because we love working on broke ass cars. It's not a hobby it's a lifestyle!! Keep up the broke ass work!!
Rich, your advise is gold. Thanks for allowing us to learn at your expense. Obviously, the internet is full of people who don't know what comedy is - even when it is some of the best going round.
I can’t even drive. I know nothing about cars. But I LOVE your channel. It’s so soothing to know that there are ppl who know EVERYTHING about SOMETHING. You bring comfort in chaotic times. ❤️
That really sucks, about Cam. I was actually disappointed, when he disappeared. I thought that it was pretty cool that he was interested in helping you. He could've learned so much, & led his generation in rebuilding E.V's. As far as Ik, there's no law against this. How did a few idiots complaining, force him to stop? Well, maybe he can still work with you, off camera.
Thanks for the honesty about this build. Its important to be realistic about a salvage build both good and bad. Shit happens unfortunately. I think you were in decent shape until the battery pack was a dud and the drive unit went kaput. Still a valuable lesson going forward. You've always preached never to fall in love with a lot and you went and did it. Damn that paperweight X. It got you too hard on doing a build Rich.
I'm glad you made this video, too many people out there do not understand; that like you things can go askew very quickly. I'm sorry that your nice car didn't pan out for you. Hopefully you will be able to recoup some of your losses without going further into debt. Best of luck to you.
Great job. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Learn from this and keep doing great things! Perhaps you drive this one until it's dead, perhaps you can sell it for as much as you can get, recouping as much as possible. Best of luck to you; you do great work!
We learn from your mistakes and that frees us to do rebuilds with different mistakes and we combine all of our lessons together so we can make an encyclopedia of mistakes for the next generation to ignore...because change.
Rich Rebuilds... no matter the cost. Sorry it cost so much. But you're quickly on your way to a million subs, so you got that going for you, which is nice.
I think that your mistake was buying a FLOOD damaged vehicle. It's one thing to repair a salvage car that was in an accident, but water damage is something that is not worth trying to fix because it causes so many problems throughout the entire vehicle.
Generally speaking a ‘flood damaged vehicle’ doesn’t have body damage. So, in theory, you take the good parts out of a wrecked vehicle (carpet isn’t damaged much by a wreck!) - and put it in the flood damaged one. Until..... you have the problems that Rich had...
@@Maybe-So so change out like every damn mechanical part, wiring harness, wheel bearing, everything? Flood damaged is NEVER worth the risk, spend your money and time elsewhere.
Flood damage can range from 1 inch above the doorsill to 20 feet over the roof. Its a gamble. If he wouldve held onto it a pick up a good driver with a destroyed body and swapped everything over he mightve come out ahead

Export.
Wow! You're so honest and demonstrate that even a genius makes mistakes sometimes. However, you have to realise the inspiration you give others...and that's pure Gold.
It takes a brave man to admit that he was wrong. Respect.
Keep going.. it's a bump in the road.
I appreciate your attitude, good humour and perseverance.
Thank you.
Well... that was, depressing. Thanks uncle rich. ::awkward stare::
Thank you for being honest Rich. This is what I like, transparency , not BS like other rebuild channels. Nothing is free.
Hey Rich , at least you have less financial mistakes than Sam Crac ...check out his Range Rover disaster 😂🤣😂
Range Rover was a good buy, he payed 1400 when parts are worth 3-4k alone.
@@MrQuidy How about the green Ferrari?😂😂
Range rovers can be a gold mine if the good money parts are in great condition, I got offered 3k in total through several buyers wanting different parts. for a; bonnet, rear tail gates, wheels, full doors, sunroof mechanism, air con controller and pump, original working H&M stereo and then the seats yet best offer for the complete running car was only 1,800 🤷🏻♂️
Always interesting, informative and entertaining. Merry Christmas Rich to you and your family from Australia.
That was well smooth transition into the sponsoring part. I laughed out loud 🤣 🤣 🤣
This is easy more useful than just another lucky success story on RUclips. Much appreciated Rich.
If you were a private citizen repairing this car then yes you lost money..., but you are RICH REBUILDS so that car is literally making money for you and driving people to your channel for comments and to check up....., its a win win for you actually but I inderstand you are coming at this from the common person perspective.
Out comments don't make him 10s of thousands. Unfortunately
You're vastly overestimating what people make from RUclips.
He doesn't earn that much. At a rate of an average of ~100,000 - ~200,000 views per video, and with an average of about ~500 comments, RUclips's tax that they implement (taking away money from what you earn) means he earns a lot less than what you think he earns...
@@RoyceTarantino and maybe you are underestimating what he gets from youtube, patreon and the sponsors that give him money and free stuff....., maybe.
@@roosterandguppy2373 He has family, business and house payments to fulfill too, yknow.
This is a lesson that goes way beyond cars. I work on houses. It still amazes me that people think that fixing up a house always pays.
"Well, look at how much work we did. Look how much we spent on the finest materials. How come we broke now? What happened?"
In the long run, the lessons you learned here will keep you from future "L"'s.
Hahaha that Scarlett Johansson bib was awesome! LMOL!!!
I'm glad you and Louis Rossmann are hooked up: Two MONSTERS of the Right to Repair movement!
Thank you for your candid honesty ... and for the Scarlett Johansson bit, that was HILARIOUS
You spend $58,000 and then showed a for-sale Tesla Model X 90D for $60,000. Looks like you saved 2 grand to me! ;p
Minus the non performance motor
The 60 grand one has a clean title which means cheaper insurance and easier to sell.
A salvage Title X will bring no where near 60K.
Good luck selling that salvage non performance for that price. He'll take a major hit financially when selling that X
So wait, he's got 3 working cars now, and the beige flood S?
Uncle Rich, a victim of his own success. Wop wop lol
nrml1 he probably made all of that from RUclips and documentaries he did about fixing Tesla
(hard) lesson learned .. thanks for sharing .. happy new year ;-)
WOW Rich, way to go!!
Rich, You are awesome. Just wanted to say that. Thank you for documenting your experience...
". . . Just send the invoice to my email"
😂😂🤣
This has been one of your best videos. It feels real, it’s straight forward and you’re giving sound advice. Comment to try and make you some money
"why this tesla was my biggest mistake and how i monetized the hell out of it"
Rich, your advise is gold. Thanks for allowing us to learn at your expense. Obviously, the internet is full of people who don't know what comedy is - even when it is some of the best going round.
Louis rossman x rich rebuilds wow
that segue into the loan advert - brilliant.
"Great honor goes to those that share their defeat." -me
I can’t even drive. I know nothing about cars. But I LOVE your channel. It’s so soothing to know that there are ppl who know EVERYTHING about SOMETHING. You bring comfort in chaotic times. ❤️
Rich going into uncharted waters so mistakes will bound to happen. But now you a lot wiser to the Tesla salvage game.
Elon Called and wants you to do more Tesla rebuilds. You are are the driving force behind the used parts market rise.
Oh my god, you are brilliant. That ad Segway was so funny.
Hey Rich, it's so refreshing to see someone willing to show the world their mistakes in the hope that others won't do the same. You're a legend!
"send me the invoice and you're gonna have to rebuild your reputation RICH....YEEEEEEAAAH "
$75 for one minute of your time with your wife Rich? Really??? :)
I'm a 30 second chump, so do I pay half?
Mother Earth appreciates your work 🙏🏻🌎
Great job. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Learn from this and keep doing great things! Perhaps you drive this one until it's dead, perhaps you can sell it for as much as you can get, recouping as much as possible. Best of luck to you; you do great work!
Don’t fall in love with anything that can’t love (luv) you back.
Yes but the knowledge, experience, contacts and friendships that you gained from this project is priceless!!
I can't believe any of those electronics underwater still work! Amazing build!
