- Going into detail with Jim Root's 2020 signature guitar from Fender and demoing his EMG pick-ups. Despite being a simple slab + bolt-on guitar there is a lot more that goes into the ownership of one of these. Hit me up with your questions. What do you think of this guitar?

Your review is very blunt and truthful and that’s what I like. No beating around the bush just right to the point. I’ve had my JR Jazzmaster V4 for over a year now…and the only thing I had to have done was a quick set up and have the nut filed to fit my 11-56 string gauge. For whatever reason the guitar came from sweetwater with 9s on it lol. Like you… one of my only gripes is the 9V having to be fished out of the wiring and I’m afraid to pinch or cut a wire while doing so. So far so good though. Other than that this guitar is my ride or die. The balance, feel, playability and overall tone is just perfect for me. Love how “open” and not compressed or boxy sounding Jim’s new pickups are as well. Very tight low end and don’t get muddy unless you really work for it lol. I okay through a Marshall DSL20 with a tube screamer and little black amp box and haven’t looked back. A new amp is being bought in a few months but honestly… I would buy this guitar five times over again. My father in law who’s a bluegrass and classic rock guitarist played this guitar and right off he fell in love to the point where he bought one for himself lol. He plays slide guitar on it…which goes to show just how versatile this model really is. Sorry for the long rant but I had to get my opinion on this beautiful guitar out for you to read. I've had my jazzmaster v4 for two months now and I can honestly say that I would happily purchase a couple more for backups/different tunings, and bring 6ft 4in it's perfect in size and balance. But also its sounds so good.
Great review! I'm debating on getting this or the black USA model and swap the pick-ups for those new ones. Would you say it'd be worth going through all that trouble just because it's a USA model or is that new MIM model feel just as good or close enough to the older Jazzmaster? I do like the new features and design of this new Jazzmaster but I've never played a USA before so I'm struggling to decide if it's worth. Thanks
The volume switch cap I think was put on “not lined up” on yours. Mine was linked up accurately to how it faces me

Helpful review dude - Wondered if you could help, have you played the Jim Root strat and tele too?
The reason I ask is I have both, having two guitars for a show just help with the anxiety of something breaking. I absolutely love the tele, but never have got on with the strat like I hoped I would. Would you say the jazzmaster is more comparable to the tele or strat?

I have played the JR Tele. Both are very blocky, like a slab. The Jazzmaster is very large in comparison. I am 5ft 8in (173cm) so the Jazzmaster feels/looks big but it doesn't deter me because the weight is balanced especially on a strap. The tele is more fitting to my body shape and out of the 3 I would say the Strat is the most "comfortable" if that is what you are aiming for. But the feature set on this Jazzmaster makes it worth while.
tldr; The Jazzmaster is more comparable to the strat just because of size/shape.

What can you tell me about the thickness of the neck? Is it pretty thin? I have very large hands and problems on esp thin u neck shapes 😬
I would say that it is slightly thinner than the normal fender C shape neck. Nothing like an Ibanez or purposely thin neck profile. Closer to a standard Jackson model neck profile. I hope this helps.

My fingers are kind of small, like not small but kinda. Explorers have the best width with the frets for me to be able to play clear, do you know how this compares size wise? I cannot use like Ibanez RGs and such. Les pauls are abit meh
Great question! In terms of scale length or length of vibrating string The JR sig is gonna be longer than traditional Gibson's 25.5 vs 24.75, therefore higher string tension for average strings in comparison. In terms of string spacing or length from highest to lowest string my 2018 Gibson Les Paul Classic measures 42.5mm-ish and the JR sig measures a little under 44mm; which I would not label a considerable difference. In terms of a nick profile the JR is thinner than the Gibson and I would compare it to an newer explorer. In terms of body feel the JR has all that back weight similar to an explorer without the absolute bad ass aesthetic.
TDLR; An explorer will have more of a bouncier, easier playability when comparing size to the JR sig but with some lighter gauge strings would not feel foreign.
I just cant wait until it becomes avaliable in EU somewhere - so far Im looking at November, before its in stock :O

10-52 at the time. I like things light, but now-a-days I'm doing 10-54: skinny top beefy bottom.

@@TheBedroomGuitarist1 IMO price wouldnt drop so much just check reverb and look for ebony black one :/ I'm heavly instrested in USA made but this used price is almost the same as new :D EDIT LOL now, on reverb is just one and it's even more expensive than brand new
@@TheNieslawnyKanal Right now these guitars are even a bit hard to get brand new. I'm sure even Mexican manufacturing took a big hit and they are still pretty new for Fender AD's. I think after a couple production runs (whenever that happens) we will start to see more of the Jim Root line up for sale. I hope you find the one you are looking for, I really enjoy these guitars.
@@TheNieslawnyKanal They grow a lot in price as they are very hard to find. And nobody wants to give them which is perfectly understandable. I personally have the USA jazzmaster and that one is probably never going away - great for metal, rock and basically whatever you wanna play. Here in EU the price of used pieces are about the price of the new one in US and still, they disappear pretty quickly.

You said it man! I think Jim Root may have done that on purpose partially to make a point against guitar snobbery, but I really wanted this to be American made.
The Bedroom Guitarist It’s irrelevant, all this “American made is superior” is just snobbery. I own many Mexican and many American guitars, I love them all.
@@xpertsz9254 nothing against mim. In the $600-$1000 price range. The difference is quality between mim and mia is there. If im dropping 1400 DOLLARS I want AMERICAN quality. For 1400 I could get a balaguer custom with similar specs that is mia and probably higher quality then an mia fender.
It’s on purpose that it’s Mexican made. It was asked to him if he wanted Mexicans making the guitar in Mexico. Or Mexicans making the guitar in California
In all honesty is not that bonkers. Mexican made guitars are really good. Now we have Ibanez charging $1500 for an Indonesian made guitar and Esp making everything up to $1200 in Indonesia also. Mexico definitely makes better instruments than Indonesia

But, the point is... I ain't metal....but I am hard rock! I play Gibsons: an LP, an LPJ...an SG Spesh..
But I want to rock a Jazzmaster. The shape is cool, but the pickups don't make sense. The whole thing don't make sense!
Fano do a great job of transplanting everything Gibson from a Les Paul onto the groovy shape a Jazzmaster.
But then this Jim Root model came along and knocked my socks off!
It must sound like sacrelidge to you Slip fans...but I want to use that big old mahogany body to combine with a coupla Burstbuckers like they do on Les Pauls....and get a badass new makeover to the most classic - and my personal favourite - Rick tone of the ages...the sound of SLASH!!! 🤟😆🤘
