    You are comparing 4 guitars. And not 4 pickups. This is a huge difference and basically makes this video redundant if you are looking for a new set of pickups

  • @emmancastillo8679

    Had them for a year now, I don't like them. I really gave them a shot, raised the height, tried new settings on all of my amps and even changed them from a guitar to another. These are definitely not it, which sucks because of how expensive they were.

    Trying to decide between the SDSS and the BKP Juggs to put into a Strandberg Biden Essentials, which would you pick and why?

    • @TheBedroomGuitarist1
      @TheBedroomGuitarist1 4 месяца назад

      My preference is the Juggs. That being said they are extremely "voiced" and can appear thin. The SDSS has more of a classic Duncan sound while being pushed towards the needs of modern prog metal. I prefer the guitar to get most of the personality and run more tried and true on the amp/cab side. So if you are running Mesa, 5150, Marshall things of that nature then the BKP's will be more complimentary. In the context of some live shows, I am playing some more classics like Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, and Megadeth so the SDSS has more of the forgiveness to get the leads and fast power chords consistent.

    Awesome comparison man. That rhythm tone on the Mayones at the start of the video is basically my dream djent/high gain tone. Would you be able to let me know how you got that tone i.e. what amp or software you used? And was it the pickup in full humbucking mode or coil split? That was such a spanky, percussive sound it was almost a bit single coil-esque. I bought a Schecter KM-7 III Artist recently to be my main 7 string and I'm loving how well it plays and the neck pickup, but the bridge pickup isn't really doing it for me. It just doesn't have the growl and chunkiness that I'm liking from your demo here. The KM-7 bridge is essentially a modified Fishman Fluence Classic. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Fluence Modern as I know they can chug nicely (I have the Moderns in a Cort 7 string...they aren't the right size to fit the KM-7 though as it's routed for passive shape pickups so I'd need to order different Modern). I think I'd prefer doing this rather than swapping all the pickups for something like a Bare Knuckle set, or even going for a different guitar, as I'm really happy with the way it plays and all the other sounds you get from the Fluences like the lead, clean and coil split sounds. It's just that djenty chug that I'm missing, which is a shame as that's one of the main things I want to get out of a 7 string. I'm happy with the chug from the Moderns in my Cort though, when I run that through the Neural DSP Archetype Rabea plugin. Just don't enjoy playing a multiscale so much, so the KM-7 was meant to be a big upgrade what with the 26.5" scale and stainless steel frets. But understanding how you got your huge tone may help me get mine perfect 🙂 Btw, a gutiar shop in my city has that same Jackson Juggernaut for sale second hand. It's a fairly small city and the biggest & oldest guitar shop in it recently shut down so you don't really see much modern shreddy/metal focussed guitars for sale. I actually tried that Juggernaut a year and a half ago when I first decided I wanted a 7 string. It was way out of my budget but the shop was still kind enough to let me try it to see how a 7 string felt. They were asking quite a lot for it though, £3000 second hand and it's not the absolute latest version of it either. Reading further down the comments on your video I can see you got yours for about half the price! No wonder the one in my city is still for sale. From what I can remember it felt very comfortable to play but they only had more vintage amps in the shop to try it with. I don't think I really knew who Misha was back then also!

      This particular demo I used the Axe-III. Horizon Devices Precision Drive (used the model this time for convenience) -> FAS Modern Amp -> a blend of 3 different Mesa IR's (Royer R121, Mojave FET 301, and a room U87). A fairly modest boost in the top end in the mix because mesa cabs are very dark especially with the R121. You assumption is also correct, the very beginning was split, with the 3-way on position 2 and the knob pulled. If you are looking for a solution for IR blending solution on a budget I recommend the GGD Cali Cabs plugin. I hope this helps. And thanks for sharing your story. Without writing a novel, I hope the USA Juggernaut becomes more accessible or we get a comparable spec soon.

    I listen to a lot of the modern metal and had the ragnarok's in my RG 7 string but went with the alpha/omega for my new shecter SVSS. It's a darker sounding guitar vs my Charvel and I'm hoping that these pickups can really get the top end cracking. I almost grabbed the Polymath set as I've loved the BKP's I've owned in the past but I heard they were a bit softer/darker than the alpha/omega and other "djent" pickup sets.

    • @TheBedroomGuitarist1
      @TheBedroomGuitarist1 7 месяцев назад

      After checking out a couple of your videos I would say you would actually like the BKP Polymaths and I wouldn't call them darker than the A/O. The Polymaths are extremely controllable, overly so at times with some of the best midrange I've ever heard. Although, they have to be played and set high up on the strings to sound rewarding; if you really dig in with the pick the djents are 10/10 and in my opinion better than any Duncan. That being said I have been doing a lot of live playing and because the Polymath is so right hand sensitive and demanding the Ragnaroks and the Scarlet Scourge are a betting choice for me and when I play the A/O in those settings the other guitar player's sonic presence is just gone. Kick ass channel by the way!

I play tech death in the vein of artificial brain where super complex chord voicings with open strings are common. My gut is telling me that the a/o set would probably be the best route to go. I have the older Holcomb SE 6 and 7 with the A/O set and loved the bridge PU but the neck was a little trebly and harsh for my taste. I know his thought process for it was to go for clarity in the neck, but it just didn’t have that "warmer” sound usually associated with a neck PU. From what I’ve heard the new S/S set is supposed to be a little lower output and traditional. I would get a A/O bridge and a S/S neck, probably the best of both worlds.

    As far as coil split and cleans how would you say these compare to the juggernauts in versatility?

    • @TheBedroomGuitarist1
      @TheBedroomGuitarist1 10 месяцев назад

      I would say the Juggernauts have a lot more spank and top-end sharpness to the splits and the SDSS are more thicker but rounded. For me I would take the Juggs in both situations; the clean tone at the end of Flatline is something I often try to replicate, but that has a very involved signal chain. In general, the Juggs are more of an empty canvas awaiting the creativity and the SDSS can use less and perform at the standard of high demanding tone chasers. I hope that helps, thanks for your contribution to the channel.

      Hey saxophite1333, good question. I haven't got a chance to play Jake's new Mirage but, out of the 5, if I had to get one I would go Juggernauts. That being said in the context of my band Promachina, I find myself playing the Scarlet Scourge more because they are little more thrashy had have a thicker side to traditional chord shapes while maintaining right hand control. If you are going for a Periphery cover or pastiche then Juggernauts for me every time; they are still one of my all time favorite sets.

    Hey buddy i really love the voicing of Polarity. What is the closest flavour to this on emg'S? or can u suggest me a passive close tho this range? İ cant afford a Kiesel atm :(

      For active EMG's I would say 57/66 which I find to be my favorite EMG's as well, just a true super hot PAF sound. I had them in an LTD Arrow not too long ago and I enjoyed how it could handle different amp sounds and stay compressed and consistent. Passive recommendation closest to these I would say SD Pegasus or Dimarzio D-Activator with a little push on the amp gain side. No need to go fancy because the Polarity's have that uncharacteristic balance & buzz from the long and true classics. If you want active and PAFfy, checkout the Jeff Loomis set; it handles high volumes and small venues better than EMG's IMO. If you do find yourself wanting something fancy checkout the black dog from BKP

    I shred. These super tight pickups are usually are not grate in that territory. I need some ripping for these.

    May I ask how did you get your hands on that 7th string juggernaut? I have had one on order for more than 2 years and it’s still pending

      I got that guy Feb 2nd 2019 used at a Guitar Center in San Fran for $1989 and they overnighted it to my local Guitar Center for free. Congrats on the new axe I hope you get it soon; I can confirm... it djents.

      @@TheBedroomGuitarist1 right, since it’s the first time I see it on your channel I thought you got it new recently. Cause to my understanding there’s also another guy waiting for one. Just kinda disappointed that Jackson hasn’t completed it yet after 2 years

    The Illuminators are really bright. I actually prefer their tone.

    Love your videos dude! The Nailbomb is by far my favorite BKP. I've tried a bunch but I keep coming back to the Nailbomb. The Rags were cool, but sometimes the lows were just too much and I didn't like them for leads because the moderate high end. Plus I can dial in the Nailbombs w/ the low mid to sound pretty similar to the Rags. The juggs sounded very different depending on the guitar. I didn't like it in the Lambo Orange HT7 I had (too bright), they sounded good in the silverburst sparkle HT7 I had, but they absolutely kill in my Aristides 070R. Which is your favorite???

      Thank you for the kind words and support! Nailbombs are good but haven't won me over against the Juggernauts or the Polymaths; I just feel like the spank and harshness is on 11 and doesn't fit in all contexts of my playing where there is more balance in the Juggs and Polys. That being said in this context they killed it and so in this demo the Nailbomb takes it. I will agree on the Rags tho, I had them in 6 and 7 and my bass mix did not glue into the chugs and kicks as much as I wanted. Super jealous of that Lambo orange HT7! My bulb edition ht6 is one of my favorite guitars ever and that orange 7 seems like the perfect compliment. Everyone knows, color is where the tone is. Keep rockin'!!
