    I used to own a Harley (Dyna Low Rider) and I bought a 2014 Indian Chieftain when they came out and LOVED it! I recently stepped up to a 2017 and couldn't be happier! Indian continues to impress and I am a PROUD rider!

    Love riding my 2016 Indian Chieftain! It's been the best bike out of 7 bikes I've ever owned. My fellow bikers that I ride compliment me on my choice/Spirit. Thank you Indian!❤

    I'm a Harley rider... own both a 2006 Nightrain and a 1996 Softail Custom. I love my bikes and wrench my own rides. With that said--- I'll NEVER buy a Harley again. I love my bikes but hate Harley corporate and those Village People boutiques. Too many recalls for stupid things and those wonderful cam tensioners in the TwinCams... I'm done with the Bar & Shield.
    I'm planning a future purchase of a Vintage. Polaris did an awesome job of retaining the look of the older Indians. At the same time- they built the best push rod engine in existence.
    Regardless of what you ride... ride safe.

    I have been driving motorcycles for about 45 years, mostly Harleys, Triiumph, Norton, and some Japanese creations. A week ago, I drove over to the local Polaris dealer and drove all three new Indians for about 30 minutes each. What impressed me was the huge get up and go off the line (I am not a racer nor do I drive that way) and the total lack of engine vibration through the frame. Very nice, smooth ride overall. Take one out for a test drive.

    The American made Victory bikes is one example of a bike manufacturer which have eliminated any and all plastic tensioners in either the primary drive, and on the cam drive operation. They use positive metal gears drives to completely eliminate the problem inherent with a wear item.........wear items are meant to produce an additional revenue stream for the manufacturers, plain and simple.

    • @CactusJack252
      @CactusJack252 6 лет назад +1

      And to this day people have gone well over 100K and have not had to replace these. The victory bikes do use huge plastic tensioners but you can't see them because they are overhead cams

    Being your first you do NOT want to get either of your choices and take a chance of destroying a beautiful bike much less yourself. I dont know anything about your build but a 650 - 900 is going to be a MUCH better choice for a first bike. And still something you can be proud of. I say this as someone who has had multiple bikes. From a sportster when yrs ago to a custom triumph chopper to a 2001 indian scout and a honda 1100. It has been a cpl of yrs since my last ride (june 2009) to be exact ..

    Aluminum backbone (stiffer) frame, standard: keyless start, abs brakes, 119 ft/lb torque engine, oil cooler, chrome switch housings, real leather seats...
    A Harley heritage starts out at less coin, but quickly gets much more expensive when dressing it up to Indian's standard. Also required on the Harley - sc 110 at about another $5K.

    why does the engines power band die so soon in the RPM range (Google a dyno of this engine) . was it to have a 2 valve head on purpose for nostalgia? now that HD is going 4 valves per head and let's face it bigger isn't always more powerful

    Nice engine, except it looks to me like it uses a single silent chain drive with those same pesky PLASTIC cam chain tensioners. as I see one tensioner on each side of the silent chain drive. Albeit, there are much larger than the Harley Twin Cam engines and more surface area, for longer wear, it is going to have to be periodically inspected and they must be replaced for wear or risk Metal to Metal contact which will cause catastrophic engine failure like the Twin Cam Harleys.Remains to be seen how long those PLASITIC tensioners last on the 111 THUNDERSTROKE.

  • @Moistmuscle

    engine looks fantastic and sounds fantastic. Whole bike looks too busy for me though style-wise. Dont get me wrong, the front mudguard is an india signature, would just be nice to see one minus the windshield, saddle bags ect and presented minimally but maybe that would ruin the entire design? Would love to ride one though just to see what it rides like whatever it look likes stylistically

    I agree with most of this but they say they put a lot of thought into exhaust note... They failed, stock exhaust sound is weak. need aftermarket slipnons, air cleaner to get a better sound, cams also help.

    My 111 is SO NOISY at 2,000 rpms that I get a headache. It sounds like the motor is starved of oil. My dealer tried to get permission to look into the motor and Polaris denied them. I am not a happy camper right now.

    • @ZeebNinja
      @ZeebNinja 10 лет назад

      Joseph ten Hoopen Dealership cannot find anything wrong. The motor sounds like the wristpins are loose and the pistons have play in them. The metallic sound when I get up over 2,500 rpm is overwhelming. Everything is OK at idle. It gets worse as the motor heats up. I have the stage1 and went from fishtails to the six-shooter to deepen the sound but I still hear way too much engine and not nearly enough exhaust. I barely ride it now. I get a headache every time I do. Not sure what I am going to do. I will need someone other than my dealer to help me out.

      ZeebNinja thanks for getting the word out there. that's a bunch of bullshit. they should be hands over fist to back their product and to look into it. whats it gonna take ? good luck brother

    • @ZeebNinja
      @ZeebNinja 10 лет назад

      Joseph ten Hoopen I think we finally figured out my problem. I took it to another dealership and they stated that it is the cam chain tensioner. They had another bike make the same noises and that part fixed it. Well, the tensioner has now been on back order since May. I dropped it off at the dealer then and have been waiting ever since. I hear that the part should arrive within the next few days. I won't know for sure until I ride it, but at least I have hopes of resolving this issue.

    and I am looking at a honda 750 shadow spirit that resembles the Dyna low rider. Put a hypercharger on it with a set of vance hines shorties and rock and roll. Then I'll go back after another Indian. Be smart and ride long. Remember if you haven't gone down yet its only a matter of time. The real question is will you get back up again like I have. (honda rider ran me over in 2008 on my scout. If your following someone for god sake follow! don't run them over.

    Why do you keep bringing up the History of Indian?
    Indian's history had nothing to do with Polaris. What . . . . you bought the name and now feel connected? Horse crap! This is an Indian in your own mind and design . . . . it is not an Indian Motorcycle. Nice try . . . . . . same as the others before you.

    • @dieselmutt8865
      @dieselmutt8865 9 лет назад +2

      Don Ferris A little butt hurt are we? I would say that a lot of people don't share your view since they can't build them fast enough right now to keep up with demand. Indian's history had nothing to do with Polaris...yes, and neither did Gilroy or Kings Mountain or AMF buying into Harley years ago so your point is frivolous. It's here and now.

    • @m0b00st
      @m0b00st 9 лет назад +4

      Don Ferris HAHA, poor Hardley-Ableson rider mad that he's not the big dog on the block anymore. Grow up, put down the Kool-Aid and just enjoy what you ride, and appreciate all bikes for what they are.

    • @wolffhd
      @wolffhd 9 лет назад +1

      You are right . . . . Indian's history has absolutely nothing to do with a snowmobile company, who wants to expand their Victory business by buying a name, and like many others before them, try to bring it back from the dead, yes, once again.
      But they sure do advertise the history of Indian . . . . even though they had nothing to do with it.
      Selling lots? Yeah, I believe it.
      Lots of people voted for Obama too.
      You can put lipstick on a pig, some will call it beautiful . . . . . the rest call it a pig.

    • @m0b00st
      @m0b00st 9 лет назад +5

      Don Ferris and your beloved bikes history involves a bowling ball manufacturer. At least the snowmobile company is motor sport related.
      Look at any Indian dealerships used bike inventory, over 90% Harley. That speaks volumes.
      You can put on all the lipstick you want, you wont fool anyone, EVERYONE will still know you're a dipshit.

      C' on Don, Indian try to reborn many times, and fail, but when Polaris start doing a wonderful job, many "riders" atack them, Im a Harley Rider my evo fatboy runs great, but, my next bike ... I dont know, this Indian Chief classic is AMAZING in person.
