@@slyguyaction there is more surface area on the Thunderstroke but look how accessible they are- held on with hex bolts. Don't need a fancy tool to take them off, no removing the cam plate, replacing bearings, no cutting pushrods. It's all right there after you take the cam cover off.
Love what your doing hope you make more videos your videos are very well put together and easy to understand I feel I could do the work after watching thank you
Thanks for making this video,. I really could have used it a few months ago. It would have saved me a whole lotta headache. When I installed my Lloydz cams. I would love to see more Indian repair and upgrade videos.
FYI might want to check your engine. Now that those have been out for a while it was found that the stock springs weren't enough for those cams and people are now finding that their 2018 and earlier are becoming damaged.
Somebody was thinking during Engineering of this engine and I like that, especially for this kit installation. Harley for the most part you have to pull the push rods and lifters to get the cams out which means the valve covers come off.
I should learn repairing Indian motorcycle engine, replacing parts. We have scarcity of service centers here in INDIA, It will be great to learn so that I can do my own repairs when needed. after all we should know every detail of what we are riding.
Does Fuel Motto PVCX have a map that supports the 558 Cam? I really like to DIY, never have done cams but with Service manual along with this video I think its possible. My biggest fear is dropping the pushrod!
3asyrider75 I wish I knew the answer to the mapping issue, I’m sure if you do some research you’ll find an answer or even reach out to Lloyd’s. I’ve only installed and used factory parts. And ya dropping a push rod sucks haha. I’ve heard rumors of being able to get the covers off without dropping the engine lol but haven’t seen it done yet.
A question relating to 4:30 ... are the cams that came out of the engine the originals? I see that they have the centrifugal decompression mechanism (like S&S Easy Start cams), and I wasn't sure if they were standard or not.
@@juleswrenches909 Thanks for the quick reply. My knowledge of Indians is zilch, so I've got lots to learn. Who invented the decompression style cams first? Indian? S&S? Other? Has the idea been around long? Just curious :)
Such an informative and concise video. Thanks for uploading. I have little experience with Indian but I have a friend that claims their 15 scout needs “A” head gasket. You said you have to drop the motor if the pushrods fall down. I assume that means for a head gasket the motor has to come out?
Buying the alignment tool, and re-sale after you are done helps takes the sting out of the cost. I'm wondering the difference between Llyodzs 558 and the Indian Stage 2 cam?
Great catch, that honestly could’ve been a mistake where I didn’t mention it (I always time before disassembly). Luckily if you’re setting the timing correctly going back together it shouldn’t be a problem, UNLESS the crank slips while installing. Which in my experience hasn’t happened yet.
So the Indian 111 and 116 are both pushrod engines with the cams down lower. All the scout engines utilize a cam over head design. So cam replacement on a scout is ENTIRELY differ procedure than this. 👍🏻
Harman Virk thank you for watching! I will do a fog lamp install video! Which model do you want to see? They are different ways to install depending on the model.
GT Steele The tool itself as I pulled it up on our point of sale is $525.99. I just discovered Lloyd’s makes one as well, which runs for $448.99. So just looking at prices, they would be worth buying if you did more than one job. Seems expensive for just one time use.
Julian Steele, I agree. Probably only will do this once and for the price of the tool, I am sure I can have my dealer install the cam. How long does it take? Looks like maybe an hour?
GT Steele Well I highly edited this video down for the sake of watching. You would have to call and ask your local dealer how many hours they charge for cam install. I’m sure it varies.
Julian Steele, will do. I now have the Stage 1 part complete and I am anxious to get the next level of performance. Should be a late-winter, early-spring project for my Chieftain Limited.
Victor A Sandoval Good question. The kit itself comes with all 3 cams, new cam bolts, gasket, instructions (with all torque values) and a calibration card. The kit does not include he tooling. You would have to order that through your local Indian dealer. I haven’t checked if any aftermarket companies have made one yet.
Fernie Van Rodrius it’s not needed for the bike to run and operate normally. But it’s highly recommended to maintain a proper air/fuel mixture 👍🏻. Indian cams come with a Reflash authorization card.
Shane Ingle Haven’t seen any issues here. That is, with the Indian Stage 2 cams. I can’t speak of any aftermarket cams. The valve springs are also upgraded on 2019+ models.
So, with such amazing tooling on all the parts, WTF were they thinking with teflon chain tensioners??? Tell me I'm a moron... The only stupid question is the one nobody dared to ask!!
I'm looking to have stage 2's installed on my '14 Chieftain with a good PVCX tune. Do you do that service? If so, send me an email with the cost and where you are located. Thanks
Bam Bam We don’t do any work with power commanders. Usually won’t need one since Indian offers a “reflash” with this upgrade. And the dealer I work for is here in Southern California.
Indian just availability upgrade cams for Challenger, which I own.Thinking on this but squeamish opening engine .Good work tho coming from engine machining at Honda this no job for careless
I just did cam tensioner replacements on my Harley Nightrain this winter... I'm mesmerized right now. My next bike is an Indian.
lynskyrd Thanks for watching. I’d like to say you won’t be disappointed if you make the switch! 🤙🏻
Looks like another spring-loaded cam chain tensioner to me...

That’s false, if you use adjustable push rods you just cut the old ones out, rocker boxes don’t need to come apart.
It's easy to pull the valve covers off anyway, you only have to removed the tank, not pull the engine out like he says with the indian.
Very informative great video and the step by step explaining how to do it is well done. I'm now a new subscriber!
Awesome video. Makes me really want to get stage 2 when I purchase my upcoming RoadMaster.
Ken Kopas Thanks for watching. Perfect upgrade for a RoadMaster 👍🏻
Good job! Looks a hell of a lot easier to do than on a POS Harley Davidson
Kenneth Wise lol! I wouldn’t know tbh.
@@juleswrenches909 I wonder when someone will pry open a Power plus engine ?

Great video! Loved the content! Keep up the good work!
Ty so much!
It would have been nice if u had shown a side by side of the old and new 111 upgrade cam to show the difference between the two.
Having that Tool sure looks like the Cat's Meow ..

Nicely done dude but I think if I did cams in my Springfield I’d go with the Lloydz 558’s. Thanks for the vid.
Phil Lombardi thanks for the comment. I haven’t installed the Lloyds yet. Let me know when you do it how you like em! 👍🏻

For anyone looking for a calibration card. They are out there. I found mine on eBay. I think it was about $30.00.
Hey friend, great vid. Where are you located?
First time you mentioned timing marks was on the reinstall. Why?!
Great catch, that honestly could’ve been a mistake where I didn’t mention it (I always time before disassembly). Luckily if you’re setting the timing correctly going back together it shouldn’t be a problem, UNLESS the crank slips while installing. Which in my experience hasn’t happened yet.
I'm sure this is a silly question, but what you showed here is it the same procedure on a 2017 Scout ABS or is inside the cam cover totally different?
So the Indian 111 and 116 are both pushrod engines with the cams down lower. All the scout engines utilize a cam over head design. So cam replacement on a scout is ENTIRELY differ procedure than this. 👍🏻
Thank you.
Sir kindly upload video for installation of Fogg lamps
Harman Virk thank you for watching! I will do a fog lamp install video! Which model do you want to see? They are different ways to install depending on the model.
Do they make this kit for the Indian challenger?
Yes they do. Challengers are over head cam, so way different of a procedure.
How much is that job to do with parts
i wonder what it cost to have them changed at a dealer
Great video. Wonder what the one-time tooling costs vs. getting a dealer to install?

cam gnilpe Dude, you’re a Class-A dickhead! Get the fuck out of here.
Couldn’t you have just put the bike in 1st gear Instead of a strap to keep the engine from spinning so you can torque the cam sprocket bolts?
How have the valve springs held up? I have read those are weak on the 111 TS and need to be upgraded when you install cams.
Shane Ingle Haven’t seen any issues here. That is, with the Indian Stage 2 cams. I can’t speak of any aftermarket cams. The valve springs are also upgraded on 2019+ models.

Hmmm even after cams... they just don't sound that good. In my opinion Harley has THE sound. I was hoping for a better sound after the cams

It is a lot easier than doing a Harley-Davidson Twin Cam just as long as you have that tool.
What the hell is all this Stage shit, I have got 1854 Stage Coach.

Just a method to squeeze more money out of stupid suckers.
Why why still insisting on fkn plastic tensioners.....go gear drive fkn another service scam.

Let me get this straight, you buy a brand new motorcycle, then to make it run right you immediately replace the cams. Are you shitting me?
when the only place you go is wal mart once a week you have to go as fast as you can
I wonder what the cam specs are on stage 2 Thunderstroke engines? Nobody ever says. I have a '19 Chieftain with these and was just wondering..
