      Pretty much :) And when the dealer is over 3 hours away so you really don't want to take it in for service.

    Fill the filter 1/2 full to minimize the dry start...it won’t spill as you tighten up.

    Not good to loosen bolts with a torque wrench. Although 15 ft/lbs isnt much and probably wont hurt it.....its still bad practice and could throw off the calibration.
    Keep up the good work! Love the bike!

    Great Video! I just changed my oil and filter today. I enjoy working on my own bike. One thing i will add, i use a 2x4, and a thin board to keep the bike level when i am checking the oil level. They say in the Owners manual not to overfill the oil as it foams up in the engine, and residue oil could leak into your breather and air filter. Cheers!

    I thought it was a very nicely done video. Just wanted to say thanks, I followed it today as I did my oil change. I'd rate it 5 stars, except maybe for using the channel locks. But hey, you gotta make what you have work sometimes. i'm guilty of that too.

      It's still a 5 stars all the way. This guy was working in the real world where sometimes you have to improvise to get the job done. A little dab with a black marker and the filter police would be none the wiser.

    Great video... Only thing I would add is when you check the dipstick, make sure the bike is in an upright position (will need another person to help) and not on the kickstand. That way you get the real level of oil. Thanks for sharing, doing mine this weekend!

    • @PrecisePBJ
      @PrecisePBJ 3 года назад

      I use a block of wood under the kick stand for mine, and if need be set up some ratchet straps to keep it upright, run for 2-3 minutes, then within 1 min of shutting off I check the dipstick.

    • @tomjeff1743
      @tomjeff1743 2 года назад +3

      for the future. after you do the first oil check and it's at the correct level when the bike is vertical, check it again at the same time when the bike is on the kickstand, Note the new correct "kickstand" level on the dipstick. mark/score the dipstick at that level and then you can always check it when it's on the kickstand.

    Good video but dont use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. Not what they are designed for. Also when putting the bolts back in and the torque wrench clicks at 15 lbs, dont keep pulling. You went a quarter turn past torque. Easy to break crush washers.

    Just wondering if you still use Indian 20w-40 or have you gone to another brand and grade oil? Thanks

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE  3 года назад

      I use the 20w-40 with the oil change kit from Indian. If I have to add more between oil changes, I use Lucas oil 20w-50. Usually only a pint to a quart between changes.

      Thank you. I thinking of changing local mechanic and they use Bel Ray 20/50 semi synthetic. Been going back and forth on whether to stick with oem, going full synthetic or use this Bel Ray? Looking to see what other Indian owners are doing. Amsoil makes a 20/40 full synthetic for Indian/Victory. Thank you

      If your air filter has oil in it you may have filled the oil too much. Extra is spit out into the air filter.

    Am I reading the manual correct? the oil and filter intervals are at every 500miles?

    • @MOTOBLADE
      @MOTOBLADE  2 года назад +1

      Should be every 5,000. The Chieftain even counts it down after the oil change from 5,000 on the screen. If you just bought the bike new, there's a break-in period of 500 miles when you have to take it to the dealer to have them do the break-in service, but after that it's 5,000.

      @@MOTOBLADE Oh, ofc. The bike has been through those first services. It has just not been logged by the previous owner on the Indian website. I ended up not getting the 2015 Chieftain though. Instead I got the one parked next to it, the 2019 Chieftain Dark Horse🥴

    Torque wrench rule number 1. Never use torque wrench to loosen nuts, bolts or drain plugs.
    Torque wrench rule number 2. Torque wrench is not a breaker bar.
    Torque wrench rule number 3. Always take torque wrench down to lowest setting in the markings after use.
