    I use furniture touch up markers to add lowlights and rooting to wigs that are a bit too light in color for me all the time. I have never had an issue with doing this nor have I ever had it damage a wig in any way.
    It does wash out a little bit when you wash the wig, but not fully... so keep that in mind. These are the furniture markers I use: amzn.to/2SrLF1X

    Happy Thanksgiving, Denise! My question is which you suggest for low lighting wigs? Furniture touch up markers or Copic markers? I am very interested also on your experience of any color bleeding during wig wash and also what the texture is after doing the amazing low lights? I have watched & rewatched your tutorials and so very thankful for YOU & following your journey, experience, experimentation and enjoying the beauty of wigging UP! I thank you so much for you input.

    I do have a question, do you think the marker method will work on a dark brown synthetic wig to give light/medium brown chunky highlights?

    I just want to make everyone aware that using the furniture markers on really blonde hair to create a root can turn the roots green. I have experienced this myself. Just be careful and I just thought I would throw that out there. I don’t think it would matter if you’re doing it on dark hair but on blonde hair it really shows. I am going to try a dark brown sharpie!

      This is great, thank you for this!!! I did do rooting on a blonde wig in my Tressallure Mia video... not sure if that one is considered REALLY blonde, but on that one I used Copic marker and not furniture markers. I don't really know if there is a significant difference between them.

    Hi Denise! coming to your channel quite late but hope you can help...I'd like to LIGHTEN dark brown and almost black rooting on grey/silver wigs. So far, I have regular synthetic only, but am keen to try Belle Tress Morning Storm( Heat Friendly) but roots look very dark. If I were reasonably confident that I could "fix" or break up the dark rooting by adding some ? white? or silver tones I would go for it.

    The coloring/rooting made such a difference. If you have natural dark hair, the rooting really helps you make the transition to lighter colors. Thanks!

    I love your videos, very informative. I have a short wig "brown w/10% gray", non heat defiant. I HATE the color, cannot be returned. Do you think I can use several shades of furniture markers on it? I hesitate to try Rit dye for synthetic fibers since that requires boiling water, would probably ruin it. What do you think?

    What's nice about getting a variety pack of markers is you can draw roots in complimentary colors, like mahogany on a light reddish brown, or walnut on a light golden brown. Gives you some good options.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  5 лет назад

      I'm so glad it was helpful! I will warn you, though, I did try this on a blonde wig and it didn't work so well. I think the more dramatic the contrast between the marker and the wig the harder it is to get it to look natural. It has worked great on wigs where I just wanted the rooting to be subtle, though. :) I show the "fail" if you well in my Estetica Finn video.

    I have a wig I like as far as the style of it (Farrah) only I am not happy with the color. The color is Honey wheat. Couldn't find it in the color I like on me so I went for this color. Tried to like it and just feel the color is drab! Its a cool light brown with a dark blonde highlights. I'd like to know is there anyway I can bring this wheat color to a more vibrant, thinking of adding some caramel or copper red in it for low lights. I may try the cherry or mahogany colored markers on a few stands under the inside to test.I just think it needs a lift in color.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  6 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, lightening a synthetic wig with markers doesn't work... the only way to make it lighter is to strip color, which you can't do with these fibers. All you can do is add color with markers. I'm so sorry!

    Hi Denise I have a question. I just bought a wig from Paula Young called Arizona! She’s super cute but I have one problem. I ordered buttered toast because I have Jamie Lynn in that color and when I got it found it to be way too blond for me! I realize now my Jamie Lynn is butter toast rooted!! My question is would you try to root it? Or should I send it back and get honey and root that color this would be the third time I returned a wig to them!!

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  2 года назад

      Great question.... will it cost you anything to return it and do you like that other color just as much? If it won't cost you anything and you like the other color then I would probably return. Rooting works great, but it does fade when washed so it might be better to just get a rooted one if you can.

    • @pattiw1742
      @pattiw1742 2 года назад

      I think honey is a bit more golden but it’s so hard to tell! This is so shiny and looks almost platinum I need the dark contrast because that’s what my hair is now! I will probably have to just get my money back! This does not come in rooted colors unfortunately they subtract the shipping charge (9.95) when you send it back even if you exchange!!

      I had scarlett and she looked terrible. I never could make her work. I think what you do depends on what you are looking for. Could she be a headband wig? Does she need thinning? There are quite a few options so hard to answer without knowing what you don't like and are looking for. As for groups to buy and sell.... search for Flip Your Wig on Facebook. That's a good one. Has it ever bled into the cap on you?

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  4 года назад

      No, but since I wear brunette color the caps are usually darker.... that said, I am careful to get it only on the fibers. The "ink" or whatever material is used in these markers isn't very liquidy so that helps to keep it from dripping or spreading as well.

      Hi, Mary! Thank you for the compliment! Girl Mono actually is a left side part so I'm guessing it is how my camera saves the image that is making it look like it is parted on the right.... every wig I own that is a mono PART is a left side mono part. The part is on the left and the hair goes to the right.... hope that helps.

    Thanks so much for sharing. I bought a blond wig but it needs to have lowlights for sure. Is the product non toxic?

      Hi, Jillian. The product doesn't really say anything so I'm not sure.

      Denise Sheets if it doesn’t have the scull and crossbones it’s probably ok :)

      Art supply stores have an amazing array of colors of permanent markers to root blonde wigs. My natural color is a lt/med. ash blonde, and I found perfect colors to make my wigs and toppers blend better with my hair!

    Hi Denise! I always love your videos! I have tried rooting on my Wigs after I saw you do this, Thank you so very much! So I have tried using black sharpies and also had furniture polish pens on hand to use also if I want different colors. I love the way they all work. I have a question, have you ever tried fabric paint? I’m thinking of black fabric paint so that I can use it in the underneath layers the back the nape etc. and maybe it will go farther than my sharpies (that tend to dry out)?????

      Hi!! Thank you! I haven't tried fabric paint and haven't really hear of anyone who has.... if you do try it I would love to hear how it works.

      Paint will make your wig stiff. I used a white paint pen to make a part on my basic cap. It made it stiff at the part

    The Belle Tress Lady Latte in Mocha Cream looks fabulous on you! (I love how easily you interchange between curly and straight!) The color is you! The way that wig is shaded compliments your eyes perfectly. Those of us with blue/green eyes can't do that. Well, we could, but at my age I shan't. :) Thanks for the tutorial; rooting is my next adventure on the wig journey.

    Thank you Denise, I'll definitely give this a go - I just got the TOB Isla (we chatted about it in comments on one of your Isla reviews last night). I got it on closeout in the only color available, which is bronze. It needs some oomph and this should help!

      Hi, Donna! I would love to see how the rooting and lowlighting goes on Isla.... thanks for letting me know!!

      @@heywigsister I just tried it this evening! First I used mahogany, but that seemed to almost give a purplish tint. Then I used the black, and that worked very well to add the illusion of darker rooting. I want to get another Isla soon, but will be more discerning with the shade and color. My usual TOB color has been Rooted Sandstone, which is lovely. Might go a bit darker the next time around...we'll see. Have a great evening!

      @@dwseamhead that's awesome! I usually use the black as well... seems to give the right rooting effect. So glad it worked!!
