    There are many ways to root a wig. Root touchup spray, root touch up powder, furniture touch up markers, copic markers.... each has their pros and cons. In this video I show you how to root a wig using a copic marker. Thank you to a wig sister in a Facebook group who first told me about this particular marker.

    I wish I would have found your video first. I am here because I just tried the ‘magic’ root spray and I can’t agree with you more about what you said about it.
    I know I can wash it out, but it’s a new wig and I don’t want to put it through the stress before I even wore it! The root spray as you said, coats it, sits on top of the hair. You’ve got to do it lightly, but even at that, it’s more like someone sprayed a fine mist of mud on your wig. It’s gunky and even if you comb it through, it stays gunky. The bottle says it dries in 1 minute but it’s been nearly 20 and if you touch it, there is brown gunk on your fingers and anywhere the wig touches your hairline because I needed to ‘root’ the hairline to make it realistic. It’s a mess! I really do not like it at all. I tried to wet wipe it off. I guess I’ll see how it looks in the morning. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK! to the ‘magic’ root spray. The only plus I see to it is it can behave like hair gel and give you some texture or lift if you want it there.
    Anyway, I have copic markers and yes, knowing their properties, I bet it does work much better with synthetic fibers. Wish I would’ve seen your video first! Would’ve saved me a lot of $$$. $10 for 2 ounces of gunk root spray. I hope my wig isn’t harmed by it or by getting it off of it. 😤😫☹️
    Thank you for sharing your wig knowledge. 🙏🏻

      I'm so sorry you are going through this. A lot of people use and recommend root spray.... just goes to show that we all have different preferences. I wonder if ALL root spray does that? What brand did you use. I'm doing some product testing and might do a test of a bunch and then share a video on my results.

      @@heywigsister So, I just got a Jon Renau FS27 and I figured it would be too blonde for me, and it is. I used L'Oreal Root Spray in medium brown yesterday. As far as looks go, it looks OK and I will wear it out before I wash it. But it has made my wig feel yucky on top and it is very dull. I realize I am being overly critical. I am going to go to Lowe's today and check out furniture markers. I want to do this so I can see them in person and not try to order a Copic online. I have another new wig, Estetica R30/28/26 that I just got in and I will try the marker on it. As I am new to this and only have 4 full wigs and 1 hat wig..........I think this is a lesson to me to order more within my comfort zone. Shaded Peach, I'm looking at you, lol!

    Nice demo. I haven’t really found a rooted wig I like so far....roots always seem too dark for me. I’m working on my unrooted wigs using the Joan Rivers powder. Best results I’ve found for blonds. It gives contrast without going all the way to brown. If I can find a good shade, I’ll definitely try the pens. Thanks for the info!

    This video is so helpful. I'm debating between estetica ck rooted and r8/26. I like the roots on ck but hate the chunky blonde highlights for my colouring. The other colour has much subtler highlights but is a lighter brown base. I'm thinking now of making its roots darker and scattering some long strands of dark throughout from crown to tips. Thanks to your video I think I'm nearly there!

    I just rooted a wig yesterday because it had so much blonde and copper on top that it looked fake on me. It was Lexi from Statements (TWC), only paid $30 for her because of their closeout sale. Didn't feel like I had much to lose by practicing on her. She turned out great! I also bought the furniture markers, per your suggestion, and what an even better buy (I think it was a 6 or 7 pack at HDepot for about $6).
    Also wanted to pass along a tip about steamers. I debated long and hard about what to buy and almost gave in to buying Jr's steamer because of the concentrator nozzle but I didn't want to buy one where it continually steams out. So, I bought the Bissell Steamshot that came with a lot of attachments..one being a small concentrator nozzle. Not only was this half the cost of JR's, I can also clean areas of my house making this a double WIN. On Amazon, it was $39. Has button to press for when you want steam or not. LOVE it!

    I've used the L'Oreal Root Touch-Up spray to root a couple of my blonde wigs and it worked very well, but I agree with you that it leaves a sticky residue on the fibers which I don't like. Even after washing I find it's still there. I've tried furniture markers and found the 'browns' are too reddish for my blonde wigs. The copic marker was the best by far. Thanks for your helpful video! :) ~~Mavis~~

    Hi Denise - Your wigs coordinate with your eye color so well! I have a question on using furniture markers. I bought an "as is" wig for a great price that didn't have the packaging. The owner of the wig store looked up the wig and indicated it was a human hair wig. I have extensions that are human hair, and this wig doesn't feel quite as soft, but does feel better than some synthetic wigs (maybe it's a combo of human and synthetic?) I'd like to try the furniture marker and thought I could start with an underpiece to see what happens and how the hair takes the marker. Any other advice? I love the wig and don't want to mess it up, but really do want some lowlights. Thank you!

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 года назад

      I really don't think that human hair will hold the color like synthetic does. I do not believe you will ruin it so there is no harm in trying, but I would be surprised if it take the color.... if I had any bio hair I would test it on myself, lol.

    I use the really wide KOPIC markers and I use bark too they are permanent and I have been doing it for years. I am looking for a lighter brown to do my lighter blond wigs if you find one let me know in this comment. The wider one I use is even wider than the wide end of that one you have. I like them because I do the roots on the whole wig so it really looks natural because our hair grows out all over not just at the part. It takes so much time off using the wide one.

      Nope!! I have washed other wigs that I used furniture markers on and it does turn the water dark and seems to fade a little on the fibers, but it does not fully come off and it takes soaking it in water for that to happen. I did this on a girl mono wig (I linked that video in the description) and I would sometimes spray her with water to scrunchy the curls and it never dripped off at all.

I have done multiple rooting videos since this one and I believe I have mentioned it in those videos. If you are looking for a solution that DOES wash out then I would use root touch up spray or powder (not my favorite because of the coating it leaves on the fibers).
