I have been using it daily since March, already put 30k km on it. Its generally a really nice car, I have gotten used to everything but 2 major issues. Turning signals, often times I just give up and stop using them if they turn off and other times the car thinks I'm switching lanes and turns the signals off for me so I have to turn them back on because I moved into a turning lane and am about to turn. The other issue is the gear selector, shifting into Drive and Reverse are generally really nice and the audible signal is nice to have because sometimes I shift but because I don't drag the shift selector enough on the screen the car doesn't shift so when I press the accelerator I realize I'm still in reverse.
Also with summer the roof being glass is horrible for energy consumption and heat in general, though I did buy a clip on sunroof which has helped tremendously.
I still cant get over the acceleration on the car either, though for daily use I have it set to "chill" mode. What people often make fun of is waiting to charge but I do all my charging at home, for the few times im low I would go to a supercharger and plug in for a few minutes then leave with another 100km. I can always fix that as well by going over the 80% limit I have set but since I have the Long Range its not much of an issue.
With the amount of Driving I do (which has actually been a little less these past few months because of some stuff that has come up for me) I have made the car payments back in literally just gas savings... its insane. My electricity bill has gone up by around 100 (cad) a month, as opposed to the 70 dollar tank I would fill up every 2-4 days.

I try to never leave valuables in my car, but if I need to, I'll put them up front. It's going to be significantly harder and more time-consuming (e.g. risky) to pry that open just to see if there's something in it.

Sorry but I don't find it difficult at all it just takes time to get use to it. I love the No stalks and buttons for indicators they are so easy to use once you are use to it. I use the centre bump to find the correct button and on a roundabout I place my thumb over the button I need next. I would never want to go back to stalks again. As for the wipers it does have different levels for the wipers if you hit the windscreen button on the steering wheel it will bring them up on the screen then you can use the left scroll wheel to change the levels. To be fair the wipers have improved with the last couple of updates. You can change the 5 apps along the bottom of the screen to be whatever you prefer by touching the 3 buttons which then brings up all of the apps so you just drag them over the current ones to the place you want along the bottom and as for the seat controls they always stay along the bottom in their own place at each end so they should always be there along with the temperature controls. The lights have now been changed to adaptive across all Teslas through an update so they will now adapt for curves in the road ahead of you and illuminate farther when driving on a motorway and they dip themselves and change direction to not blind other drivers so they work well. Maybe you need to have a read of the manual to learn more about the Tesla especially the 2024 model.

They're better than they used to be, mostly because you couldn't use cruise control with them turned off, but now you can. It does however turn them back on every time you cancel and re-engage cruise control, which annoys me no end.
I understand that you need the cameras to be clear of water so that the adaptive cruise control can work... but I hat that too, always slowing down for no reason. Just give me an option dumb cruise control, I don't need any nanny hand holding, if I crash into the back of someone then so be it, but I've managed the last decade of driving other cars just fine so think I'll manage just fine...
In the last update they allowed scrolling the thumb wheel to change wipe mode, which is great, but they also made it worse by having each press of the wiper stalk change mode, so to go from intermittant wipe to off without removing my hand from the wheel, I have to press the stalk which makes the wipers faster before I can scroll to turn them off. So dumb. So backwards.

    • @JPEight
      @JPEight 4 месяца назад +1

Yes, but it still sucks. Auto should be after 4, and pressing the stalk once should not change the speed. It used to just do a single wipe regardless of whether the wipers were on or off which was great for when you were in light rain and had intermittant, but get sprayed by a truck or puddle. Now if I want to go from slow to off, it goes faster when you press the stalk, hesitates for a moment during which the thumb wheel does nothing, and then finally lets you turn them off.

M3 Highland driver of over 10k km's. A few notes.
The RWD is the best bang for the buck right now, especially compared to other EV's efficiency and options (e.g. hyundai, polestar, Kia, etc).
The auto trunk works perfectly fine and its surprisingly accurate. Check the phone version as its not working with older phones/os versions.
Turn signals are actually decent especially for the highways in Germany. It sucks in small roundabouts !
What I feel is that you will completely get used to it, and you'll forget entirely about the stalks in a few weeks. it's one of those things that take time. Over-exaggerated in the media.
The swipe thingy is fine. I never swipe drive modes in a daily/work commute. The automation thingy works quite good. You get in the car, it automatically shifts depending on the park and off you go.
Voice commands are very limited. Hope they improve it with an AI update.
The auto-wipe either works great or terrible. Needs improvement. Luckily the wiper button is aligned in the perfect spot.
The adaptive led matrix headlights are absolutely awesome. Maybe not activated in Canada? Check the settings for ''adaptive''. You have the impression that blinds everyone, but it actually does a great job. (yes' I've tested it on the opposite side). They are still tuning it as we speak.
No HUD is meh, would make the car very close to perfect by having one.
You can also set the steering wheel heating & heat/cool seat ''touch buttons'' on the bar below, and/or assign the left wheel press to pretty much anything.
    Sound and insulation is fantastic.
Once you get used to it, it’s a fun, lazy-ass car that works pretty darn well. With incentives, it’s actually a no-brainer.

It's been an issue for a long time, not necessarily related to LED. Some years back, before any car had LED headlights I noticed that more and more of the cars I met at night were blinding even on low beam. One night I met a car that flooded the road with intense light so bright I couldn't see anything. Pissed off I flashed the headlights to signal him to switch to low beam. Well he flashed me back. It turned out that he had been using his cars version of low beam. I had to break and park at the curb waiting for my eyes to recover. This was just halogen lights but bad enough to be dangerous and the low beam was certainly not shielded to keep from blinding meeting traffic.
Now properly designed headlights will not blind the meeting traffic when you use low beam. High beam is another matter. It will be disastrous for anyone you meet in the night, so make sure to always go to low beam when meeting a car. And do adjust your cars headlights wo low beam doesn't blind people. Sure it you can't see as far along the road that way, but at least you don't have to risk crashing head on with a driver that can't see.

Let me make sure to spell it out for manufacturers. Stalks and buttons are like quick-launch links. Let me interface with the things I use most often with physical controls, that way, I can do it without looking. Lights, indicators, wipers, gear selector - buttons. Radio controls, and climate controls - do a long touch screen (prefer buttons) below the panel which can switch between and control those with hybrid up/down button controls.

    - There is an option for a "normal", physical key (for opening/closing the car trunk, frunk, doors, windows)
    - You can simply rearrange the buttons at the bottom of the screen and put the seat heating there
    - I agree, the auto wipers are nowhere near perfect
    - Yes, the original options for static headlights are blinding for the others, but if you actually turn on the adaptive headlights then IMO they are better than other manufacturers'
    - The suspension is a new adaptive one, that is why it is soft for the potholes and stiff for cornering :)

Trying an older Model 3 with a stalk was far more difficult. I do agree with the auto wipers issue though. Not bad but not great. I have found it super smooth, quiet and efficient.
The phone connection makes it so easy as no need to do anything other than have your phone with you. Walk up to door, open it, get in, close door and put foot on brake to start car. Automatically sets reverse and you go.

I'll still allow it to yell at me, just in case it's ever correct, but I really did not like feeling it tug on the wheel mid-corner when it had no reason at all to do so. I also switched the collision warning to "late" after a couple false alarms with that (I was looking at the car ahead and already moving to the brake, with plenty of time to stop). I really appreciate that these features can be customized or turned off entirely. If something can be done in software, and it's potentially useful, Tesla will probably give you the option. Wonderful review as always.
Game changer of a car, however addressing some of the "negative" comments made in the view for things he "wished were there", and some positive ones too:
    1. Trunk Auto Open - It uses the cameras and you have to enable it in the car menu, works surprisingly well.
    2. Climate Controls (heated/vent seats) - You can actually add them as quick widgets! In my Model 3H I've put: Seats Cool/heat(ing), Heated Steering Wheel, Windshield Defroster.
    3. Climate Controls (quickly setting temps etc) - A fun UX action you can do is just swipe left/right on the temperature widget at the bottom to quickly change it, I dont even look at it when I do it as I drive since the swipe length scales perfectly every time and you can easily predict which temp it will be at after let's say a 5cm swipe (I do wish they added a haptic motor somewhere for this, maybe on the steering wheel to make use of the existing haptics of the thumb buttons?).
    4. Switching Drive modes - I agree it's really shit, I hate it but it doesnt ruin the experience. I would rather have a stock or gear knob on the center console, screw it even haptic buttons would work if they were heavily textured or with a bump and not on the ceiling :))))).
    5. Indicators (position) - both dumb and alright. Since the turning ratio for the wheel is crazy good (meaning a 90º rotation turns the wheels A LOT) I happen to spend most of the time in roundabouts with my finger on the exit indicator button with ease. When I use my combustion car I get annoyed that I have to release the wheel to indicate because of how comfy it is to just not move your hands. That being said, any tighter roundabout or turn and youre cooked - just give up and pray you can reach the button in time and it's the right one. You are encouraged to keep your hands on the wheel like a racing driver, it's the whole point, but do a full rotation and oh boy you best pray.
    6. Indicators (auto turn off with rotation) - you can turn this off in the menus. For my driving it's useful, but it can be turned off.
    7. Wipers (auto) - absolutely useless, they're shit and whoever decided to not user IR hardware should be fired. Let's use up nice resources of the ECU's Process Loop :). Or do as he said and click the haptic button, and use the scroll wheel (better but stupid still).
    8. Lights - the dynamic high beams are really good if you're a driver and from experience they're not bad when you, as oncoming traffic, are within legal EU range. I'd rather not be blinded but it does not make it unsafe. If you're a EU spec cabover oncoming truck whose lights are at the same level as other cars but as a driver you're really high up, youre getting blinded there's no chance. Most highways in EU have railing or bushes which happen to cover the line of sight of the cameras and the truck lights and when the truck is near enough that night time image recognition kicks-in well you've already been flashed 10x by the trucker.
    9. Speakers - hella good, agreed by many sound nerds to be one of the best factory speakers.
Conclusion: it has downsides, upsides, lots of customization, really dumb things and is a wonderful car to drive.

Soo here's the thing.. As an owner for 6 months (Germany) I think if u want to review the "Tesla experience", you need to give some time for yourself to learn all the little things coz it's vastly different than any other car on the market. Some may drive it confidently after the first hour, some may need 1-2 weeks to experience the "edge cases".
First of all, the white seats are super easy to maintain, you just wipe it with wet wipest, job done.
The windshield wiper's auto mode is crap yea, but you don't HAVE to change the manual speed on the screen. It also shows you, that after pressing the windshield button on the steering wheel, you can scroll the cursor with the left scrollwheel up and down. BTW with the latest updtate Tesla managed to break this feature by "automatising" the maunal option, meaning for example u go with level 1, the rain stops you press the windshield button, and it jumps up to level 2 "coz u asked for more" while u actually wanted to turn off the thing .. Just like pressing Start on Windows for the shutdown... XD
You also don't have to go into the "menu" to reach the heated/ventillated seats, you can drag them to the bottom and keep it next to climate control. As much you guys are being the biggest tech enthusiasts as much I really don't understand how this made a confusion...
The stalks... Literally every single reviewer complaining and hating the missing stalks ever since the debute. I sat in the car KNOWING the signals going to be buttoned because of said reviews. The first day I drove 150 kms charging + home and only one single time I missed the signal because that roundabout was half the size in diameter then any other roundabout on the planet. Ever since I know, if the wheel is upside-down, then I press the bottom one with the right hand and that's the right signal. That one time was my only miss ever since and I drove the car 19k kms so far (12k miles).
The video feels like "Yeah, yeah it's a great car, but, but, but, but..." and those many buts actually breaking the feeling of "a great car". It is a great car, and those buts are not as serious as they sound. Did any of you tried to switch after 10 years from android to apple? You would complain that the bloody back button is not there for the first day and you get used to it. It's the same...

  • @davetravels9273
    @davetravels9273 Месяц назад

FYI you can customize the bottom of the screen to always show the climate buttons you want. I have my seat heaters, heated steering wheel, and defroster buttons always there. 😉 For the wipers, I agree that the auto function is dumb but as you showed in the video but didn’t realize, you can touch the wiper button and then use the scroll wheel to choose the manual setting. It’s not perfect but once you get used to it it’s quite usable. As for the headlights, they are matrix meaning they can dim individual zones. However, the matrix part wasn’t activated in North America due to regulatory approval but it has been recently rolled out so it will depend on the software version you are running but I suspect it has been fixed by now. Finally, I also hated FSD but I just got a new update last week, beginning of October 2024, and they have completely replaced the coding stack for cities and it actually works really well now. I just drove over 200 miles yesterday and the car drove most of that itself. The point being, you have to understand all of the functions of a Tesla to use it correctly or how you want and it’s constantly getting updates to make it better. Something that other automakers don’t do to this level. Not to mention how much more efficient Teslas are compared to everyone else.

I would call Tesla navigation like google maps, but cleaner and has everything you need without the ads and annoyances. It's also super accurate and will get you there on time. Did you know they use wind speed, temperature, elevation, along with distance to destination to calculate the arrival battery percent? It's *suuuuper accurate* The only flaw in recent versions (last couple years actually) is it doesn't zoom in as much as it used to by default, you can zoom it in but it doesn't keep your zoom setting anymore.

-The app > keys. It unlocks when you approach. Locks when you walk away. To me, good engineering is adding connivence to the things your do/interact with every time you use a product (aka locking and unlocking). When you drive everyday, you quickly realize how much better the experience is not having to worry about keys.
-To the point about the map... it is is powered by google maps. Essentially a re-skinned version of g-maps.

One thing - in your review of their adaptive cruise - if you buy FSD, you do also get access to the enhanced version of that as well (enhanced autopilot) which can navigate from highway entry to exit on a trip for you, automatically change lanes, etc. it’s quite different from FSD - you can tell the AI is trained differently - more ridged and mechanical. I had a chance a few month ago to check out BYD's Seal, Atto3, and Dolphin. The Seal is like a Mercedes, but EV. Very nice. Lots of room. The high end accelerates like a rocket. The Atto3 is like a smaller SUV. Higher clearance, bigger inside. Good performance. The Dolphin is similar to the Atto3, but smaller. Also very good acceleration. The large trunk has 3 levels (and I swear the bottom one is below ground level! ;) The high end Seal had a range of 690 km, the Atto3 was 490(?), and the high end Dolphin was 490. The prices were "affordable" as in 1/3rd a tesla. If they start importing to the US (and they are setting up a plant in Mexico to get around import restrictions), tesla is toast.
