Paradox needs to add an hero achievement to Stellaris:
"Not the End yet"
Bring forth the End of the Cycle and stop it.
And another called, "Servant of the Cycle" getting the galaxy well preped for the cycle

the third will be the most difficult to achieve.
The reckoning is weak af in terms of hull points, even if you don't fight it, others' fleet will eventually have enough shield pen to chip away its hull and just win.

So the 4 main patrons are basically Tzeentch(Whisperer of the Void), Nurgle(Composer of Strands), Khorne(Eater of Worlds), and Slaanesh(Instrument of Desire) Utopia making Stellaris move up in the world
And the fifth is effectively the fall of the Eldar.

The End of the Cycle reminds me of Amon from Starcraft 2. He brings all his allies to bear to wipe out ALL life in the universe. Then once no more enemies remain, he kills all his allies leaving only his godlike hybrid remaining. AKA The Shroud

This shroud business sounds a lot like 40k's warp, it has 4 massively powerful entities (one of intellect and insanity, one of life and death, one of honour and slaughter and one of hapiness and excess), you can travel through it using special drives, it can only be accessed by psionic individuals, you can summon entities from it...

Oh boy...im guessing you aren't a Warhammer 40K fan then. Well to put it very very bluntly, its literally hell. To be more specific it is a realm that mirrors our own, its a world of pure emotion and thought, it is filled with daemons. It is the realm of the chaos gods Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh.
Interesting, I found the shroud more akin to a dreamland, you can get a lucid dream, or a nightmare. If you have unlocked two psyonic ascension perks, the Unbidden will keep rambling about how you had been to the shroud and it was 'very close' to were they had come from...
no, stellaris genocide route would be playing fanatic purifiers, as you literally cannot not purge everyone. preferably by eating them all.
i had some really rapid growth with my current purifiers by declaring on my first neighbor that started a colony, conquering both the colony and capital without needing to fight his fleet/starport (he surrendered) eating the population, which gave me around 5k spare food, and not building a single farm for the next 50 or so years, allowed me to focus on minerals/tech and energy and go on a killing spree, forever adding to my food stores.
it's now 2361 and i have just 1 food building on every planet, that being a paradise dome. i have 30 planets of which 3 are now fully focused titan farms. (xenophobes can farm titans with a +100% food production modifier)
and i'm making +100 food a month of it, probably not going to need a new farm world for the next 100 or so years
oh, i'm also terraforming every single planet to gaia and building megastructures because i can, already cleansed 2 of 4 fallen empires, 1 of the 2 remaining ones has awakened. and is scared of me

I think we all see the 40K references up in here. We got Nurgle, Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaanesh, and End of the Cycle is either Malal, or Mister Eaten from Fallen London (I mean c'mon, it even says "DO NOT DO THIS" in the fluff text and doing it is a Very Bad Idea. Clearly your entire civilization is Unaccountably Peckish when you do this.)

Pretty sure a guy from Failbetter worked on stellaris, so that's where the "do not do this" came from. A lot of the tone of some of the stuff matches the Eaten plotline as well.

What would be cool is if you can become energy beings, then the Unbidden come saying you are food, then repliy "No, You are".
Jesus Christ, that end game crisis... If you were pretty much 3/4 the strength of the galaxy, everyone is screwed. But hey, all are purged this time.
BUT, if you can win the game in 50 years after accepting the covenant, you don't have to pay the price! once you make the deal you must begin a large scale blitzkrieg around the galaxy. at least you might lose your empire, but that one planet, but those conjured psi entities might kill the last few surviving empires.

Gravit Cat Oh sorry, that's a reference to Warhammer 40k. The Eldar who's empire was destroyed by a cataclysm caused by their own lust, which also spawned demons.
A craft world is what some Eldar went on to escape before it happened. Basically a planet sized ship.

You "win" the game, but with the implication that 50-X years after you win the game, where is the number less than 50 that it took you to win the game after accepting the deal, you will still lose everything.
Can the AI trigger that too?
I have a stupidly big spiritualist AI empire in my first game, would be too funny if it suddenly just vanishes while leaving that thing there.

well I'm sorry, but that fleet would be gone because the AI most likely can't activate the event (not sure, hope it though). Meaning that to get the actual insane avatar you'll have to destroy that fleet, and with the remaining 1K minerals and energy build up that entire 250K fleet.
Btw I had a 370K fleet once, but that would also be gone.
At max an awakened fallen empire will be able to beat it with their 400K total fleets (2x 200-ish FP)
But FE is usually happy with split fleet.

The unbidden got one hell of a buff
64 years into my newest playthrough... Kicked three empires asses already by rushing cruisers and shield, was doing awesome, was colonizing my sixth planet... Suddenly from across the galaxy comes a blood court with 12 planets already, overwhelming in all degrees, and they declare war almost instantly upon meeting me... I paused, used command prompts to check, they're a regular empire, somehow equal to an FE in fleet power, with the FE being only superior in tech and navy room... Advanced neighbours was turned off... How the hell did that happen?

Damn, just learnt what you mean first hand. 49 years in a group appeared asking me if I want some excess ships, 15 cruisers, then gave me another 15... Being easily twice as strong as my regular opposition as well as using the syncretic ethic to expand twice as fast led to me ceding a FE ringworlds to each of my vassals by 109 years in. Now to wait for an endgame crisis and see how fast I can kill it...

Dammnnnnn I must admit if I was given that choice (without knowing what it does) I'd of been tempted to just do it and I probably would just panic and freak out and go all giddy at the same time switching between manic evil cackling and excited glee like a child in a candy store...

There are certain mods that allow you to two or all three ascension perk paths. I for one downloaded a mod that lets me get the full biological ascension path along side the full path for either psionic or mechanical
Sooo, now i can make both necrons( synthetic ascension+fanatic purifiers) and Eldar(psy ascension) Gotta think how to make Da orky boiZ(hive mind perhaps, idk) too and i can have a "War in heaven" game.
The Orks really do not hate other races. To them war is fun, and being at war with others to them is just having a good time.
If you make a Devouring Swarm Hive Mind you can recreate the Tyranids

+ASpec I just found out about one of the most trivial yet amazing things the shroud can do, it allows you to actually talk to the Prethoryn Scourge and gives you an additional dialogue option with the Unbidden!
It literally took me like 5 full traditions before the tech for psionics even popped up. But eyyyyy was able to take both levels of the Ascension perks at once.
And the end of cycle is why you go for machines because they don't make giant death things made from your entire race

If you started. You won't be able to form federation (at least the first 9-10 years) because the "doom us all -1000 penalty. with decay rate of 5 the warped consciousness is seeking new prey every around 3 months and will shroud any planet with sentient life. (I'm pretty sure through bombardment although I didn't find this myself.) warped consciousness will save you last If your planet exile is outside other empire's border. your main goal is to survive those enemy empires

So basically the plan is The End to give you enough power to do as much damage to the galaxy as possible so when it spawns it has the greatest chance at killing everything

ok so I force summoned them on another AI empire (with the help of good ol' console). It's about 1-2m fleet power with 4 arc emitter type weapons that have very high rate of fire, and always 1 shot kill your battleship.
......and It's so bloody easy to kill. Allow me to explain.
Its shield is impossible to take down, but its hull point is abysmal.
It was summoned around 2670 (version 1.6.1 vanilla btw), I specifically nerfed myself to control only about a third of the galaxy just to see if my fleet can deal with that.
I had around 3300 fleet capacity & 1 million combined fleet power split into 3 fleets. no confederation or anything.
They're mainly made of Arc emitters, as it is my favourite weapon regardless of the enemy, along with a bunch of naked corvettes armed with torpedos that ignore shields. They got psi jump drives, enigmatic shields, and so forth.
the empire that spawned it was next to me, but its capital was on the other side of the galaxy.
Annnnd of course the main reckoning death ball came for my capital system right away before any other planet, because I'm a fucking player instead of AI.
fucking hate that.
Anyway I only had 1 fleet within jump range before he obliterates my capital world. it's only about 350k fleet power (compared to the reckoning's 1m)
And I won.
Yeah.
I barely touched his bloody 300000 shield, but the torpedoes that ignore shields, a bunch of bombers, and of course the Arc emitters tore its bloody hull apart.
I lost a bunch of ships, and even my triple upgraded shield+hull+armor (I science'd hard early on so those were the researches left) battleship gets 1 shotted.
but nake corvettes got 1 shotted too, so those bought me a bunch of time allowing my arc emitters (spread across around 120 battleships) to just do 1~300 direct hull damage with 100% accuracy.
and when the dust settled, the ball's explosion was spectacular, and I still had about 200k fleet power left on that fleet. (My other 2 fleets warped back into my capital system AFTER the battle was won)
so yeah. it's not end game crisis because it....isn't that hard to kill.
Oh btw, no celebration or any dialogues for clearing out the fall of eldar--i mean balls of reckoning.

I just won a tall game with the machine's that take care of people. I was SURRONDED by spiritualists but I never saw anything that even resembled the end of the cycle. I'm a bit dissapointed. I had 1k energy and 2K minerals per months plus the larges fleet in the galaxy. It would have been nice to face some sort of end game crisis.
The weight is 50-50 I believe for then to pick or ignore the choice.
End of the Cycle be like: Wanna make a contract and become a Magical Girl?
So what happens to the shrouded planets? Can that be reclaimed or are they permanently rendered uninhabitable as a monument to your hubris? And when you say the fleets become derelict do you mean we can reclaim them or they are actually destroyed?
Derelict means destroyed. Its all space junk now
It actually means in a state of disuse or disrepair, not destroyed. This implies that they could be retrofitted for reuse or require minor repairs.
It's just a cool graphic. But I guess it Really is destroyed.

Yes the video was informative to me. I was able to get the base game while it was on sale. I plan to get Utopia in a couple of days. Brgh paydays. Psionic is one of the paths i intend to explore.

The fun thing is you can actually ask Unbidden are they from Shroud or not. Their answer is no but they say they know of it. Wonder what's going on there. Do they worship Shroud deities or are they arch nemesis?

End of Cycle seems to be worth it. It's pretty easy to win the game in 50 game years with a +100% bonus.

What is even the point of making a covenant with the "end of the cycle" if it just obliterates everything in your empire except for one world and unleashes a terrifying monster on the galaxy?

+Zarith Azmir but you can't win the game, it's continuous, the best you can do would be fulfilling one of the victory conditions.
I think it would be fun when you play multiplayer and on the end-game everyone is relatively on a stalemate because of the same strength, and then one of your friend (or you) started to creepily smile and said "well, if i can't beat you guys, I'm taking you all to hell with me" and unleash the end of the cycle event to rape the galaxy. That would make a good role-play.

Now I think of it, you forgot to mention the huge -1000 diplomacy malus you get from birthing the End. Even the three genocider empires will get kinder words than the player, apparently.
You don't especially need the Spiritualists. It also works when you have at least 1 Pop with the 'Psionic'-Trait.
Also, getting the psionic leader for the Carvaneers is a huge plus.

Discovery right now really broken, first 2 traditions i mean - + to anomaly and research points for reserching planets. 3+ science ships and you get +100% to research as long as you science ships scout galaxy. You dont need to finish it btw, grab anything what you desire. Also whole harmony top tier too.
And Faith in Science is a very significant happiness boost on top of everything else.
Sadly you will never use it untill you scientists explore every single system xD And then you dont use it cuz game end, or cuz you pops got 130% happines in case of factions, harmony tradition, resourses etc.

Prosperity with a Leader that reduces Mining Station Costs is goddly. I mean with 1 point in Prosperity and my Leader, my mining bases cost 37 Minerals =p

I'm pretty sure the psionic avatar scales to some aspect of the players empire. When I first got my avatar (from save scumming) it was in the 20Ks power but now it has about 45K power.
I have also read that when you meet the scourge that you translate what they are saying. Learned this in a post on steam. The guy took a screenshot of it.

You don't have to have 3 ascension perks to access Mind Over Matter; I have it on my current game, as my 3rd perk (of 3 so far). All you need is the Psionic Theory tech researched. I had never got it before, so I started a new game recently designed to ensure that I did; if you look it up, the tech is "random", but weighted depending on certain variables- stuff like fanatic spiritualist and having a researcher with the Maniacal trait really help if you want it earlier, as does getting the research boost from the tech ascension tree, which increases Rare tech options. I had my ascension perks all planned out, and only two perks I wanted were available right off the bat, so when my third slot became available, I decided to just let it hang until I met the prerequisites for them, which I figured would take a while (because it did for the Titans and Mega-Engineering perks in the past). To my surprise, I don't even think it had been hanging there unused for year before I got the Psionic Theory tech, and made Mind Over Matter my third perk choice. Now all I need in terms of techs are the Titans, Mega-Engineering, and Climate Restoration (I think that's what it is called), and then I will be all set for my perk picks.
P.S I case you were wondering, I chose/will choose the following ascension perks: Technological Ascendancy, Imperial Prerogative, Mind over Matter, Transcendence, Colossus Project, Galactic Wonders, Master Builders, and maybe Consecrated Worlds (because it is only allowed by spiritualists, which I never play, except this once just to try Psionics).
The base planet pop isn't the only thing to get the psionic trait, leaders do as well and its custom to which type of leader. it's actually quite powerful.
...but mechanically the shroud is just not that good it seems... random events or making some pact that will both help and hinder you? They sound fun but they don't sound very useful compared to what I've seen and heard of the other paths.
I hope I'm wrong on that though.

I'll give you that but compared to just the massive and controllable bonuses you can give your species with the other two paths it just seems very flimsy.

In a non-ironman playthrough I spent more than an hour save-scumming and entered the shroud hundreds of times to try and get it. I got the option for the other 4 multiple times, but the End of the Cycle never came up once so eventually I gave up. Maybe it requires something special to become available or maybe I was just unlucky, but with such a seemingly tiny chance I don't think it makes psionic empires OP at all. The other two ascension paths always get their awesome buffs, while the psionic buffs are kind of meh in comparison (except for the End of the Cycle, which it seems you really can't rely on).

Rolewise The End of The Cycle would win
Gameplay wise The Interdimensional Invasion would win as even normal interdimensional invasion is enough. This is why The Reckoning needs to be buffed.

Fun story, I did a fanatic materialist empire with psionics recently. got a maniacal scientist to get the psionic expert trait from a event on a planet. Can't remember what one, but it's one that pops up when surveying. Anyways, I also received the awoken from the "in limbo" quest chain. And for some reason in the coding, they were available to assimilation. So I ended up with psychic robots with souls apparently. Changed all robot production to these guys. Eventually had enough of them so they regularly pops up as leaders, one of them, an admiral, was available to the chosen one event in the shroud, which I then renamed omnissiah for good measure. Yay for space robot wizards.
The requirements for the mind over matter perk are not just having two other perks they are having one other perk and researching psionic theory this can be a bit difficult but I find having a scientist which the maniacal trait helps with this. As for the transcendence perk that has to be you fourth perk and I think you need to have researched telepathy. Keep doing what you are doing Aspec love you videos.

I got the end of cycle, spawned at 1.3 million point entity, setting was on hard not insane and had a pretty dope empire before the end (fleet combined strength was around 200k before event).
