- Winston Rodney aka The Burning Spear is one of the pioneers and custodians of Roots Reggae. In a career that's endured over more than fifty five years, this icon is an institution and living legend in a class of his own

Burning Spear is Roots and REGGAE 🎶🎛🎛🎤📖🙏🙏🎼🎵😎🔥🔥🎶🎵
“Let's recall some great men, who've been fighting for our rights.”
Big up Winston Rodney ✊🏿🔥😤
Tradition
Thank you
Marcus Garvey is one of my personal all time favourite albums.
It's incredible. An album I play over and over whenever I'm on a road trip
The one thing that I have always appreciated about Burning Spear was the fact that he never watered down his message. He preached the gospel Garvyism with a passion that still burns in the hearts of all Pan-Africanists. Big up to Burning Spear!
Yes I ❤️💛💚
He also promoted the vax which is totally anti Rasta and not Garvey.
🎯👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿💯
YES THAT IS TRUE WINSTON SPEARS IS ONE OF THE TREE FQOTS
He took and promoted the vaxx and that’s totally anti Rasta.
Much Respect for Burning Spear, your resilience and grit has rubbed off to generations that listen to conscious music, Long live the Legend, Spear Long Live❤🎉
Blessings
Burning Spear is the man, next August 1st will be in Amsterdam again, will be the 11th time i see him live in action
This man made me love marcus garvey
Winston is top . True spirit.
Yes I ✌️
Yes I. Was blessed to see The Spear twice!!!!
Was through Spear i first heard about Marcus Mosiah Garvey, dont think i ever heard anyone sing more about garvey and i just had to find out more.
A True Garveyite and Rasta. Long may the Spear keep burning......
Yes I ✌️❤️💛💚
After Marley it’s Burning Spear for me. He has one of the deepest, most soulful voices in reggae and always experimented with his sound. I’d love to see him perform live even at this late stage. #womadelaide25
If bob was the king, winston is the emperror. Bob made reggae popular, burning made it academic level music, made it uncompromised.
😂 you do recognize right that a Emperor IS a king as well.. 😅
But seriously 2 Kings in 1 Home Land.. A true thought to be had👍🏿🤔✊🏿
Thanks for doing a video about Burning Spear, I remember the first time I heard the Marcus Garvey album it just blew me away, I've never heard a record since that manages to be as political, spiritual and emotional as that.
Yes I ✌️ An incredible album
Born in Jamaica 🇯🇲 in 1967, thanks to Rasta for giving me the knowledge of who I was as a Black-Afrikan.
Finally! Thank you so much! Mr Rodney is my favourite artist of all time and all art forms. I sang jah no dead every day to my kids from the moment they came to my arms after beeing born until they were too old for sleeptime songs
Yes I ❤️💛💚✌️ He's a living legend
Had to have seen him perform 15 20 times. Once at Reggae On The Rocks we all had the amazing pleasure of seeing The Spear back to back nights!
I've heard Marcus Garvey in the 80's somewhere when I was 13/14. It is still in heavy rotation.
Incredible album ✌️
Jah no dead, jah no dead,, Blessed Love,, Rastafari,, 🇱🇨👊🏽🇯🇲👍🏽❤️
Yes I ✌️❤️💛💚

Finally a Video about Burning Spear! Thank you!
I was around 7 years old when my Dad gave me a cassette of Spears 1988 Paris show. Telling me "I like his sound much more than Bob Marley's. He's very true to the original style!" I was shocked, but got hooked to Spears Sound for ever after.
I saw him once in Switzerland, at a venue that did not do him justice... Would love to see Spear performing one more time.
Live Au Zenith? Got that on double cd in 89...blew me and anyone who heard it away. When i brought it back to dublin...Explosions!!!!!
People who claimed to hate reggae were converts straight away..........must have been played in every pub in Dublin!!!!
@@dp13579 oh yes! Years later I got it on CD. Still part of my collection 35 years later.
❤️💛💚 Yes I ✌️

Otherwise, you're always welcome at my dinner table. "Guess who's coming to dinner..." much love to all that know HIM is King of kings. Jah! Ras Tafari. ✌️
Blessings mi lion ❤️💛💚 Bon Appetit
Spear is coming to my town soon, I'll get to see him perform for the first time!
NUFF respec to Winston Rodney a.k.a. Burning Spear. Keep up the message! 🖤💚💛❤🙏
Im seeing the spear in the uk 🇬🇧 cant wait
Absolutely 💯 the last of them
Saw him in the 90s at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, free concert. Really amazing.
Thank you once again for sharing knowledge!❤
Often described as "One of the most Loved and Respected elder statesmen in the history of Reggae music" Burning Spear has lived up to his reputation leading many to believe if Bob hadn't been acknowledged as the King of Reggae, it would've been Spear. Run thru his albums' critical reception and you'll discover an astonishing consistency and no other artists beats him in this regard (Not even Tosh). Love his latest album No Destroyer released in 2023, I believe.
Yes I ❤️💛💚✌️
What a legend Winston burning spear Rodney what more can you say a ture icon and Freddie mcgregor and error dunkley and few others
Love you page ❤
Thanks mi lioness ❤️💛💚 Blessings ✌️
Another time in Flagstaff Burning Spear show was sold out. Mr Winston Rodney personally walked in about ten close brethren thru the backstage. We offered to pay and Spear let us all in for free. Much to the chagrin of promoters and security. What you gonna do argue with The Burning Spear!
Nuff Raspekt!
That wasn't the original album cover...it was silver grey ,..and was on pre release and cost over a half a day pay ,.( Seven Pound's ) ..back in 1974/5...it sold out as soon as it hit the records shop in BRIXTON MARKET LONDON UK...it has a dub instrumental also .. named
,.." GARVEYs ghost ":... in dub ...
Both albums are literally national treasures... literally..
Yes I ❤️💛💚✌️
I wonder how did Cupson Dod left the land of the living. I hope someone took him there🙄🙄🙄
Up...I grew up listening to him in to late 70's and saw him perform a few time with one being in a very small venue...I own a couple of his vinyl albums...I have followed him all through the years even when he was not recording...This man is greatness...
I love Spears music but lost respect for him when he promoted the vax. That’s anti Rasta and contradicts everything he stood for as a Rasta.
You have to think way BEYOND that man..
I remember back when a lot of Rastafarians for promoting Haile Selassie even Winston Rodney for a time was promoting him At that time I did not know who he was in the late seventies but by the time of early 80s me and a lot of other Rastafarians turned from that Haile Selassie garbage even though quite of a number of Rastafarians went over to Ethiopia to be close to the Empire BUT I truly believe that many them if not most of them that are over in Ethiopia they are more closely aligned to the Eastern Coptic religion The point is or the point being IS..
Rastafarian IS mainly a African Spiritual concept that mainly consists of a couple of treads of Deep African Roots Nyabinghi chanting spiritualism and quite a bit of and a mix of Christianity and Theoretical East Coptic Orthodox Religion as the Copic Orthodox religion had predated Christianity
In short.. Rastafarianism is FAR Spiritual THAN any concept that any man can think of.. THIS is what Winston Rodney was raised up and inspired by.. That AND Marcus Garvey
I disagree. I say Spear’s a sell out. Furthermore you cannot define Rasta. Some use aspects of Christianity and many reject Christianity. Rastafari was created by men so what you suggest makes no sense.
@solarscience5815
Um hello.. I don't know about Winston Rodney I haven't listened to any of his music lately.. but if you actually read my comment quite correctly you would see I had actually defined what you had just said..
As a matter of fact I would go to say even further
That in the early to mid to even the late sixties in the Caribbean islands there was a big spiritual upheaval with a lot of people who were generally poor and shunned by most of society So yeah they went and.. quote on quote.. " created their own religious spiritual culture and identity " that worked for them
A lot of it was a lot of
Nyabinghi and West African spiritualism and it also contains a lot of Christianity and Ethiopian culture because that place was not really touched by any yt people
@@wethepplwhorblackerthanblu6442 I never said HIM is garbage. I never said Rasta is mixed with Christianity or Ethiopian orthodox. Rastafari was created by men. To be honest your English is not brilliant so I didn’t really overstand what you were saying. My point is Spear’s a sell out. I see nothing in your response saying that.
