We often tend to knight Artist as Idols which are Gods and as Icons then they disappoint us by not living up to our ideals of what they should be. public figures stinks behind close door too. what you see in the media is all facade and hype an image make belief crafted to sell the brand. They like to dress down but can't on stage because you paid your hard earn money to be Treated with a package on their own time they like rag jeans and cotton shirts. Artist are Humans too they are some of the most controversial figures but they all live normal lives behind close doors they do and enjoy the common things just like you. Horsemouth had a unique style of drumming that I think gives Spear a special character of roots reggae. It should have been kept that way to soar high. Peter Tosh did the same with the Wailers group and his reggae got a bit tasteless.

  • @geneclemetson4779

I know exactly what Horsemouth is talking about. I toured with Spear on the 2000 Grammy tour and he was completely self absorbed. For example, when we traveled to South Africa in December of that year, we were met by thousands of people when we landed in the airports within SA. Spear would just walk past the crowds of people and get on the waiting bus and not even look at or acknowledge the crowds. There were other incidents of his aloofness as well. I decided after that tour that if I ever made it to a level of success similar to Spear's, I would NEVER let my head get swelled up the way his was. Basically, he showed me on many levels how NOT to be a music icon.

I opened for Spear in the 80's with my band. We were sharing the green room and I wanted to go to my car and get something and quietly asked my girlfriend to give an eye on my bag because there were a lot of people there and it's kind of what women do. We watch each other's bags. No big deal. Spear was ear hustling and immediately started screaming and shouting at me that nobody wanted anything out of my bag. I dumped my bag out on the counter with a bunch of money and all my gold jewelry in it and I told him to mind his own damn business I had things in my bag and if anything happened to them was he going to replace them? Ah feisty him BBC feisty. I remember his drummer Nelson laughing from behind and he told me later he never saw nobody talk to Spear like that. At that time I lost any respect I had for Spear. JOSEPH HILL WAS A REAL GENUINE MAN... R.I.P.
I MET JOSEPH HERE IN ENGLAND
I WAS PART OF THE SET UP BEFORE HIS PERFORMANCE
JOSEPH NEEDED A DRAW TO SMOKE
& OF CAUSE I HAPPENED TO BE THE ONE WITH THE GRADES
I WAS SENT FOR & GOT TAKEN BACK STAGE TO A ROOM
WHERE JOSEPH & HIS BAND WERE CHILLING
    AFTER DEALING WITH JOSEPH...
I WAS ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE ROOM WITH THEM
    I COULDN'T BELIEVE I WAS CHILLING & SMOKING
WITH CULTURE.. I WAS IN MY ELEMENT
    AS FOR JOSEPH...
HE WAS VERY HUMBLE BUT HUMOUROUS
    HE HAD ME LAUGHING HARD.

It's a very interesting story. As the Jamaican proverb says, "See mi and come live widi mi a two different ting." That's why you never idolized people. Imagine, ripping up the man shoes that was given him as gift! That's real badmind. I thought Burning Spear was a humble man; I didn't know he was so evil.

    • @magdelenemcfadden1493
      @magdelenemcfadden1493 Год назад

Yes very evil, you don't hear anything yet, A friend told me once he was living with a woman in a rented house in SAB, she was pregnant for him allegedly when she went into labor and was hospitalized,he moved from the place they live together and took everything out of the house. The woman came home with the young baby without a bed for she and the baby to sleep on.Thats when I stopped listening to his music. If he had just left without taking anything it would be bad but at least the infant would have a bed to sleep on don't know how a person could treat another human like that .
