  • From 1972 till the present, Black Uhuru has undergone several line-up changes over the years, with Derrick "Duckie" Simpson as the mainstay. They had their most successful period in the 1980s, with their album Anthem winning the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985. I saw Black Uhuru w/Mykal Rose and Puma in the early 80s in Washington, DC. What an honor! They were brilliant ❤️💚💛

Puma Jones contributed much to Black Uhuru..maybe even more than Michael and Ducky..

FYI...it was "Uhuru" then after Garthie and Don left, the late Kojo Brown told Ducky to add Black to define the Uhuru.

I love Black Uhuru, but ill never understand the change in their sound. I have a hard time accepting that made such great hard core roots songs like 'A Eden Pan Street' and 'Wood for my fire' , would later release 80's techno pop sounding stuff like, 'Party Next Door''. Anthem makes me sad. The trend away from traditional roots sound had started a few years before Anthem was released, but Anthem really seals the deal as being the end of the roots reggae sound. Fortunately, there is new blood bringing that sound back.
I would add that even though I'm critical of Black Uhuru's sound evolution, there has been some decent Black Uhuru songs in the post Rose era, but again, I'm critical of the lack of sound cohesion, great Reggae usually has a cohesive sound, and a lot of the post Rose albums are all over the place sound wise.

Just would like to offer some constructive feedback--the title really doesn't represent the content of the video. You barely mention Puma, and only briefly discuss Rose denying mistreating her. Also, you're kind of giving a chronological history of the group but it's not easy to follow where you're going with it. Dig the channel and the content, but I think you could make it a lot better with stronger editing and accurate titles. Blessings!

The _magnum opus_ of Black Uhuru is _Brutal_ and its dubs... Black Uhuru was also never as good without Miss Puma Jones...
Yes... One man's opinion and I'm stick'n to it.
