Great video, However I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that Donnel's high luck is actually good in awakening due to its interaction with armsthrift. Although I somehow doubt the poster from 10 years ago was eluding to that.
@@Hiiyapow oh yeah if we're talking about just playing through the story chapters and nothing else armsthrift isn't too crazy. Kind of nice for very expensively forged weapons though.
Pretty confident you're correct, but armsthrift and the luck stat in general (there are scenarios where it can make or break a unit) have seen less value when compared to other stats since it only tends to affect certain hit/dodge rates and specific activation skills. Unless you're a warriors game, luck always seems to be the bane :p! Edit: Parenthesis was a 9
@@Hiiyapow armsthrift can let you save up uses on expensive forged weapons, which can be useful on a brave weapon, or on Donnell's case he can get a forged tomahawk and he can use it a lot since he's going to fight a lot of enemies on EP
My favorite build ever was marrying Donnel to Nowi - not only was Donny a beast after tons of investment, but that Nah had Aptitude AND access to the Peg Knight line (Donnel passes the Peg Knight down to his daughters), so I ended up with a purble dragon who could clear entire maps by herself by having crazy damage output and being able to move twice
Maybe it's just the villager class in fire emblem games cause I remember moku in fates also being an absolute unit when trained up girl was hitting crits like crazy
I always forged a bronze lance to trade him then paired him with Kellam to boost his offenses n defenses. After that, I’d weaken enemy units to have Donnel pick them off. I got a good amount of levels on him in the paralogue then grinded him up some more n he ended up holding his own against Marth. Once I stumbled on a second deal n reclassed him to mercenary, he skyrocketed in quality.
Dude i maxed a lot of his stats by chapter 20ish, so i always had him in front of chrom to make sure i didn't auto lose and omg. Gave him a killing edge, armsthrift and sol, and he CARRIES
That's Fire Emblem for ya! Those with the greatest potential to grow are gonna be the strongest, also kinda a big theme with Fire Emblem, I love it though. I remember being rather unsatisfied with Donnel until I finally promoted him to a fighter. My guy started obliterating armoured knights with a pan!
Name a SINGLE other unit in the franchise who becomes good after sinking that much time and effort into them. Go on, I'll wait. edit: so sad nobody got the joke
Idk why they're saying all of them when that's just not true. They can become good, just not AS good as Donnel. That 20% bonus to growths is way too good
At least he's not like the trainee units in fe8 that just end up below average(besides ewan?) I'm doing another lunatic playthrough right now and I can feel the pay off far more than them
I'd say early promoting Donnel is recommandable because he grows a lot already, he doesn't really need those extra 10 Levels. Plus he is still in a Base-Class afterwards.
I am of the very rare opinion that every early unit not named Robin, Sumia, Frederick and Tharja kinda sucks anyway so if I want to use a full army I might just forge a bronze lance and deploy the scrub that has more gains instead of the scrub that has issues with str or spd.
@@Hiiyapow Sumia is the easiest to fix through pair up (I just give her Frederick and a forge), plus she has flight. Chrom is 1 range locked until master seal and he competes with Robin, Tharja, Sumia and possibly Cordelia for it. Vaike and Stahl have speed issues, Miriel is frail and needs some babying before truly putting work and Panne/LonQu are 1-range locked until second seal. And they compete with Robin and Frederick for the second seal. Sully might stand out cause cav > wyvern progression but that's exp that I could give to Robin or a natural flier.
Ross has got to be the best villager unit in the entire series IMO just go pirate into berserker and then you easily have your best unit. Mozu is definitely a very close runner up:)

Its really impossible to outfit any nonchild unit with 5 optimal skills in this game with any fewer. Awakening is pure grind

Back when the game first came out I made this very same donnel and subsequent child with adaptability and boy... He was busted.
