    Aww, there's one other thing about Sam Riegel that's funny when you consider he's Donnel's VA.
    Sam Riegel also voiced Donatello in TMNT, who's also casually called "Donny".

    Ah, good ol' armsthrift, the main reason i like a luck asset Avatar, as with the skill from Champions of Yore 3, you will have 100% armsthrift as long as you're in an advanced class with capped luck.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад +8

      thrasher698 Donny's kids can do that too, which is why I love them. Armsthrift is one of those skills the developers clealry didn't think through much, Luck x2 is far too high an activation rate. Maybe that's why they just went "screw it" and made weapons unbreakable in FE14.

      @@BigKlingy still not as broken as vengeance being skill*2 in combination with vantage. Capped skill plus pair up means you WILL activate it and do 25-35 extra damage PER HIT. I had this build on my main and I had to replace Ignis because it was being a liability with him not killing.

    BTW killing the final boss with donnel as a villager with a log is hilarious and suprsingly possible (I also had his son yarne also as a villager equiped with a log paired up, and it did require limit breaker and rallys)

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад +7

      Yeah you would sort of need Limit Breaker and Rally skills, seeing as Villager's caps are extemely bad. Killing things with forged Logs is always hilarious. Or a stick.
      Speaking of sticks, it's possible for Donny to find one on an Event Tile, where he'll say he's never seen something like it on the farm. Um... I'm pretty sure there'd be sticks there. Just saying.

      Eh, Gyarados is still insane despite this. The 4x Electric weakness is desperately needed to avoid it being completely broken.

      BigKlingy I find that Donny is still good in the Postgame because infinite use Legendary weapons. Saves me time and Hammerine staves, and Donny with those things still hits like a truck.

    For me, Donnel got super overpowered around Chapter 11, and he was always super OP. At the end of the game, Donnel did 75 damage per hit! And that's with only 1 or 2 risen skirmishes of grinding and with no forged/brave weapons.

    I remember the first time I didn’t get Donnel. I regret not getting him, because he is a strong character. It’s true that he is the Magikarp of Awakening. Started out very weak, then get strong later on. Plus he has great supports on quite a number of characters.

    I just finished my first playthrough of Awakening, and my Donnel was hilariously broken. Towards the end, he ended up having a total rank of like 265 when paired with Kellam and I would just send them in the middle of the field and let them do their thing. Donnel's Avo was in the 90s, and he didnt get hit once in the last two chapters. And even if he did get hit, it would be for single digit numbers, and he would immediately heal back up with Sol since it proc'ed so often. Just a straight up WMD lmao

  • @superfly1239

    I feel as if donny is more like ross from the sacred stones then est due to you need to feed them kills and they come really early on in the game

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад +2

      superfly123 Makes sense. The difference is Ross actually has pretty bad growths, his main advantage is the 10 extra levels he gets. I've been playing a bit of Sacred Stones recently and Ross is actually not that hard to train. Getting arounf 30 exp just for hitting something and starting with the Hatchet (a low-weight, high accuracy Hand Axe) helps.

    • @superfly1239
      @superfly1239 9 лет назад

      Really? while i admit that is true i always had trouble training ross since i got super unlucky with him hitting anything. Also i found him useful in the final area due to him getting crits with garm and almost killing the final boss in 1 hit

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад

      The final boss of SS is probably the most pathetic in the entire series, but Ross is still pretty good at the end.
      Make sure you always use the Hatchet Ross starts with for everything you can, since he'll have a terrible hit rate ith anything else. Make sure he hits a few things in his starting chapter, and in Chapter 3 there's an enemy across a wall from the start that doesn't have a Hand Axe, so Ross can just spam attacks on him over the wall safely. After that try to have him fight a few of the weak Revenants in Chapter 4. I actually tend to always have him hit Lv 10 at the start of Chapter 5, but I like training low level characters so that might be hard to replcate.

    • @superfly1239
      @superfly1239 9 лет назад

      thanks for the feedback i would always get him an iron axe to give him more damage and have a wider kill threshold. Also yes the SS boss is just not hard at all... unless you go for a no sacred weapons challenge then it becomes a challenge

    Risen Skirmishes.......all promoted risen with maxed out stats in lunatic mode at beginning of the game......this just keeps getting better and better *facepalm*

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад +4

      Yeah, they REALLY wanted to make sure the only way to grind on Lunatic was DLC. (Even then, DLC is affected by difficulty too, usually. [I say "usually" because Apotheosis is locked at "Beyond Lunatic" difficulty] So even the supposed "easy grinding" DLC maps can be brutal.)

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад +2

      Also forgot to mention: if you're really unlucky they'll have forged weapons as well. Funny thing about that... see my explaination of forging during the actual chapter video? Note how I said you can only give 8 boosts to one weapon when forging?Lunatic Mode enemies ignore that restriction. Yeah, they CHEAT wirth forged weapons.

      yeah.......hunters (not much of a threat but still, your fliers....), wyverns and that swordmaster was pretty much IS being freaking sadistic
      (though then again, they did a good job in that department considering FE 5)

  • @Following1000
    @Following1000 3 года назад

    Something about promoting to fighter rather than mercenary you didn't mention was his access to hand axe's and 1-2 range earlier. Whereas with mercenary, 1-2 range swords like the levin sword are sparse. So you won't have that luxury until promoting to either hero or bow knight (Which still isn't even 1-2 range, it's 1 or 2 range).
    Donnel's a character that ya either love him or hate him. I don't, but he is good when he actually gets going. His weapon ranks are really just the killer though, suffering through bronze hinders growth so much especially since you lose access to javelins via promotion. Unlike Chrom and Lucina who improve substantially through javelins, Donnel loses them and has to grind weapon exp again to get that 1-2 range back.
    Also as other's have mentioned, he ain't an Est archetype. Est is related to bad joining time and low bases. Whereas Donnel joins very early.

  • @Unknownperson933
    @Unknownperson933 9 лет назад +1

    BTW if your grinding unlimitedly to the point off caping all stats Aptitude becomes completely irrelevant after your finish, and it might be a smarter idea to pass down weak beats strong or one of the male exclusive kids to his daughter.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад

      Aptitude does make a HUGE amount of difference while you're getting to your max stats. Sure it's pointless once you've maxed everything, but you're not going to grind like that until you've beaten the main game. (If you do that beforehand, you'll probably suck all the fun out of the main story) The stat advantage Aptitude gives Donnel's kids during the main story is pretty insane, and having it definately makes things easier. I see where you're coming from, but remember what you'll need to go through BEFORE you even get to grinding for max stats. What you're saying only makes sense if you take Donnel's kids and grind them in skirmishes or DLC unlimitedly the moment you get them and never actually use them until they're fully capped. I don't think that's how most people do things.

    Ahh, Est type characters. Reminds me of Nino from FE 7. Good times, having her max out nearly all her stats from level 5-10 as a Sage

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад

      Fallen VanguardWeirdly enough I've never actually trained Nino before. All the hype she gets kind of makes me worried she won't turn out as well, I guess. I'll have to try some time though. It shouldn't be too bad. Sophia is the only Est I've ever ragequitted out of training, literally EVERYTHING doubled her with her starting stats, I don't think I found a single enemy who didn't one-round her and Dark tomes were pretty bad in FE6, not to mention her getting screwed over by the sexist Con system. (Which I think Nino may suffer from too)

    • @ArsSanctum
      @ArsSanctum 9 лет назад

      Nino does suffer from it, but it's not so bad I find. The best way to raise Nino is to abuse the arena HARD in FE 7 so everyone else is op by the time you get her, and then just get lucky. Also Afa's Drops, and other stat boosters that you have lying around all help. She has interesting support convos and it's really fun to make her super powerful for the end game because of her backstory. She's one of my favourite characters from that game now, and is one of the 2 characters I like to call "hidden op"
      The other one is Dart. Oh man I have stories about the one time I used Dart. Suffice it to say I miss how Berserkers were in those games

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  9 лет назад

      Dart always turns out really well for me, though the most annoying thing about him is his promotion item being a gigantic Guide Dang It. If you don't know where to find the Ocean Seal in the desert, he's pretty much useless.

    • @ArsSanctum
      @ArsSanctum 9 лет назад

      ^Yup, and that's why despite playing through that game easily like 10 times, I only wound up using him once. Because even when I would find the Ocean Seal sometimes Dart died for me, because I was younger and foolish, or I just didn't train him up, or something along those lines

      @@BigKlingy Gotcha. Another question. You assume grinding when you do these bios, right?

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  3 года назад

      Yes, but only to a "reasonable extent". Doing skirmishes to get Donnel out of villager, or the 2nd gens to promotion is fine, but grinding everyone way past the average enemy level isn't. It's like how in Sacred Stones, I'm okay with grinding Amelia and Ewan out of their Trainee classes in the Tower, but not using the Tower any more than that. (I feel like this is what the devs intended you to do with them anyway)
      I know most viability discussions assume no grinding, and it makes sense why: if you allow it for some people why not everyone? But in terms of an average playthrough that doesn't go out of its way to over-level, I feel like this is what a lot of players will end up doing.
      If we're talking about how the cap modifiers play into things though, then I'm assuming it's postgame and everyone's capped.

    • @AlexaRobin21
      @AlexaRobin21 3 года назад

      @@BigKlingy I see your point. I don't have access to post-game like Apotheosis or anything, but as far as Donny's cap go, it's still really high compared to the endgame enemies. Aversa's Ch.25 speed stat on Hard is about 40, right? Donny's speed cap as a Hero is 41, so with a pair-up bonus and tonics, Donny can easily ORKO her.
