Nate & Abby, thanks for the recommendation, I purchased this as my first drone to learn on and it is great, the GPS feature is awesome. In fact, yesterday I was flying it and got to way to high and the wind carried it away before I could react, it went over a wooded area and I chased it, and could not find it. I did hit return to home, but thought I simply lost it. I went inside, and then decided to go look for it again. I came outside and my little Hubsan had returned home and landed less than 5 feet from where it took off. I am so thankful for the lesson , and will be more careful. But wanted to let you know that this drone is "perfect" for a beginner to learn with. Thanks for all you do in showing us in you r video's. God Bless, Russell

Got one of these for Xmas and flew for the first time yesterday ( Feb 26th my 65th birthday !!) My first time flying a GPS equipped quad and I am hooked . I have built a little turntable and holder to do the calibrations hands free and it worked great . Thanks for the demo I knew how to fly this before it even came out of the box. Now its time to save up for a more elaborate model. Cheers from Canada

I own 5 Hubsan quads, and I'm continually amazed at how well they perform, especially considering how inexpensive they are. My first quad ever was the Hubsan X4, and it flew flawlessly right out of the box! I was irresponsible and lazy, and didn't even bother to calibrate it, or install the prop-guards or anything...and still, 9 quads later, I enjoy flying my little "Bionic Frog" more than even my big SYMA X8C.

Fun Review of a "Cheap" drone. I got one to play with while waiting for a 502E to arrive & was skeptical of the "cheap-o" controller, which works fine, but without headless mode. My H501S-S controller binds & the RTH and headless modes both work. I also upgraded the motor bushings to actual ball bearings and they make a BIG difference in not only smoother flight and more responsive flying, but also seem to add a little more fly time. Nobody would tell of the actual bearing dimensions in other videos, so I'll spill the beans: Get 3 x 6 x 2mm bearings. Others have told of greasing the gears and that dirt & grit accumulate - I have a can of Silicone Spray Lube that leaves a dry film (also great for AR & Glock mag springs) - apply to the gears with a toothpick and allow the carrier to evaporate. My 502E is not amazingly quiet now! I look forward to getting my 502S, not necessarily for the better drone, but for the better transmitter (uses only 4 AAA's instead of the 8 AA's the 501S-S Tx uses. The 502E is THAT good!
I love this video because It cuts through the noise to evaluate and rate the Hubsan H502E as the easiest to fly and most affordable drone - a breakthrough for beginners wanting to move up to GPS for simpler operation and improved photography. I bought one I bought it after this review was posted. I fell in love with it. I flew it as often as I could. After flying it about an hour total, I started having problems. one of the motor pods ran at about 30% of the RPMS of the other motors and it would not take off. I can't get the company I bought it from to do anything because I can't figure out how to sent an under 2 meg video. I contacted Hubsan US and they said I could send it back but it would take 6 to 10 weeks for them to repair it. I found that the bearings in that pod were screwed up. After I found that the 502E did not have FPV I ordered the 502S, and still haven't flown it yet and I have had it 2 months now. it's my feeling Hubsan has serious issues with product quality, and QC. They seam to have not figured out customer service.
Received one as a gift for Christmas. Taking it out as soon as I log off for it's first large, open area flight. Rain is on the way so I have to hurry.....after all... it is Oregon. Thanks for the awesome review guys!

Thanks guys, you talked me into buying the x4 Desire except that I bought the 502S version and couldn't be happier. Finally a Drone I can fly and learn on. One of the best first time drones. I like the fact I can let go of the controls and it will just hover in place. Also like the Return to Home, it works very well.

I bought this drone for my 9 year-old grandson. Perfect! Spare batteries are readily available and cheap. This thing flies great! The only problem is he's already spoiled with FPV from my drones. Thanks for the great review.

Cool, I picked up the Hubsan X4 501S version. Transmitter has the FPV screen built into it. GPS is rock solid and the quad flies extremely well. Very responsive and fairly agile when in the "non-GPS" mode. Quite stable for a small quad when in a mild wind,

Better to have her interested early on, in something she can be passionate about, and learn while doing, than to have her friends get her into something like drugs, Dainis Michel. Cheap insurance IMHO...worked with mine. Also gives them good incentive to hit books harder if you make the connection between better schoolwork=better jobs=more money=mo' better toys... Just sayin'...
I am actually watching the same videos over again, Not complaining but I think i have now watched most of your videos now. Aw man don't you just hate it when your favorite show has went from having alot of videos left to catch up on, to having caught up with all them all Now. So guess I have to just b patient and wait on your videos being uploaded. You guys are very good at what you do. ✌
The biggest thing to remember is the prop screws A props get the black screws B props get the silver ones its easy to miss Im glad I caught this before my first flight I was wandering why the A props would not spin freely but I read the manual and fixed it and it flys INCREADBLE!
I have one of these and they are great little camera birds. I think that they are best used for family uses like taking photos of gatherings from the air, misc home tasks like photographing your property or whatever, backpacking/daypacking where you want to have a nice aerial view of where you are hiking and to have an ultralightweight quad that can fit the mission. Great video from you two as always ;>)
Thanks Afterburner :) I totally agree with you as a good quad for the family. It's easy to fly as long as you have a good GPS lock and the camera does a decent enough job to have fun with :)
I've got a number of other GPS quads and was surprised at how well this one stacked up against them. Yes on the GPS lock - It is easy enough to wait for the 6 satellite minimum. I have one other Hubsan - the 501c - Are you guys going to review that model at some point? It is the bigger brother of the 502e and uses brushless motors. I enjoy your videos and will be watching for new ones....
Hi guys, I bought one of these, I flew it for 3, 5 min flights all worked fine, on fourth flight camera failed to record or take photo, I tried a new sd card same result.I am assuming there is a fault in the camera or the quad electronics. I contacted gearbest to tell them of the problem after only 20min total flight time.Not a good response from them, so I now have raised a claim with PayPal. I now have a quad that is not fit for purpose, the only reason I purchased this quad was to take flight videos, without a camera its just another quad.any clues?? thanks for all of your very informative videos. I'm really sold on these Hubsan's I'm telling ya. My Wltoys 303 is about here which will be my first quad as I'm believe I told you both. But wow every Hubsan from the 501s to this 502e just works so well. My wife is messing with me about our cold.weather & that I won't be flying it soon with these temps. Man we dropped to -3° with wind chills to -21° ... So liking these videos of warming days lol. My Renni girl if left on her harness and lead would have been so down the field. Popeye listens very well. Renni our dachshund would teach him bad tricks lol lol... She's so fast for a mini. Nate you would never be able to keep her on video ha! Loved the vid guys.

Would you say it loses altitude when you go full speed in one direction? Curious if you need to give the controller input to maintain its altitude during flight.

Thanks for your recommendations. I'm new(ish) to the Quad copter life and am always looking for the good deals on easy to learn quads. I just ordered this one, and spare battery, so I am looking forward to flying it. Thanks Nate, Abby and of course, Popeye.
I bought one last August. It flew for one battery and the left back prop lost power. Ordered replacement motors (from china which took some time to get) and replaced it. It still had the problem. Contacted Banggood and they gave me the usual spiel about checking the props were installed properly and after two weeks referred me to Hubsan. That was over two weeks ago and after one exchange they referred it to the engineers. Still waiting to hear from them. It flew great for as long as it lasted just as it did for you. I suggest if you lose power in one prop, send it back for a refund immediately or you will end up with an expensive door stop.
Sounds like you got a lemon. Ours still flies great, after 20 or so flights. We like this quad a lot, though try and encourage shopping in hobby stores and online stores such as towerhobbies for this exact reason. If something goes wrong, it's easier to get it taken care of. But, it's cheaper to buy from banggood and others alike. Pros and cons.
i love this video because im interested in getting a starter drone, i used to have an rc trainer plane but i crashed it pretty hard and couldnt really afford to repair it at the time. i got out of rc for several years but am wanting to get back into it. this drone looks like a perfect opportunity.

I've had mine over a year now. One of the best GPS drones around and still is. The upgrade (H216a) is even better and about the same price.

I love this video because I bought one of these after watching it and it reintroduced me to the hobby! I went on to build my own F450 which I loved doing. Added bonus - Popeye - the real star of the channel!!
Hi Nate and abby, have been watching your channel for some time and i have just made my mind up and ordered this hubsan. This is my first quad i did order a falcon u846 but here in the UK the company sent it via a delivery service called myhermes and it was sat in their shipping out for a week..... very poor company so i canceled it. Looking forward to getting this on friday via Amazon. Better to have her interested early on, in something she can be passionate about, and learn while doing, than to have her friends get her into something like drugs, Dainis Michel. Cheap insurance IMHO...worked with mine. Also gives them good incentive to hit books harder if you make the connection between better schoolwork=better jobs=more money=mo' better toys... Just sayin'...

The biggest thing to remember is the prop screws A props get the black screws B props get the silver ones its easy to miss Im glad I caught this before my first flight I was wandering why the A props would not spin freely but I read the manual and fixed it and it flys INCREADBLE!

I have one of these and they are great little camera birds. I think that they are best used for family uses like taking photos of gatherings from the air, misc home tasks like photographing your property or whatever, backpacking/daypacking where you want to have a nice aerial view of where you are hiking and to have an ultralightweight quad that can fit the mission. Great video from you two as always ;>)
Thanks Afterburner :) I totally agree with you as a good quad for the family. It's easy to fly as long as you have a good GPS lock and the camera does a decent enough job to have fun with :)
I've got a number of other GPS quads and was surprised at how well this one stacked up against them. Yes on the GPS lock - It is easy enough to wait for the 6 satellite minimum. I have one other Hubsan - the 501c - Are you guys going to review that model at some point? It is the bigger brother of the 502e and uses brushless motors. I enjoy your videos and will be watching for new ones....

Hi guys, I bought one of these, I flew it for 3, 5 min flights all worked fine, on fourth flight camera failed to record or take photo, I tried a new sd card same result.I am assuming there is a fault in the camera or the quad electronics. I contacted gearbest to tell them of the problem after only 20min total flight time.Not a good response from them, so I now have raised a claim with PayPal. I now have a quad that is not fit for purpose, the only reason I purchased this quad was to take flight videos, without a camera its just another quad.any clues?? thanks for all of your very informative videos. I'm really sold on these Hubsan's I'm telling ya. My Wltoys 303 is about here which will be my first quad as I'm believe I told you both. But wow every Hubsan from the 501s to this 502e just works so well. My wife is messing with me about our cold.weather & that I won't be flying it soon with these temps. Man we dropped to -3° with wind chills to -21° ... So liking these videos of warming days lol. My Renni girl if left on her harness and lead would have been so down the field. Popeye listens very well. Renni our dachshund would teach him bad tricks lol lol... She's so fast for a mini. Nate you would never be able to keep her on video ha! Loved the vid guys.

Would you say it loses altitude when you go full speed in one direction? Curious if you need to give the controller input to maintain its altitude during flight.

I like this video because I decide to buy this drone because of you guys. Thank you so much.
I bought one last August. It flew for one battery and the left back prop lost power. Ordered replacement motors (from china which took some time to get) and replaced it. It still had the problem. Contacted Banggood and they gave me the usual spiel about checking the props were installed properly and after two weeks referred me to Hubsan. That was over two weeks ago and after one exchange they referred it to the engineers. Still waiting to hear from them.
It flew great for as long as it lasted just as it did for you. I suggest if you lose power in one prop, send it back for a refund immediately or you will end up with an expensive door stop.
Sounds like you got a lemon. Ours still flies great, after 20 or so flights. We like this quad a lot, though try and encourage shopping in hobby stores and online stores such as towerhobbies for this exact reason. If something goes wrong, it's easier to get it taken care of. But, it's cheaper to buy from banggood and others alike. Pros and cons.
Here's a new symptom. It makes a weird whinning/whirring noise when the power drops in that back left motor.
i love this video because im interested in getting a starter drone, i used to have an rc trainer plane but i crashed it pretty hard and couldnt really afford to repair it at the time. i got out of rc for several years but am wanting to get back into it. this drone looks like a perfect opportunity.

I'm having a real hard time with installing the props. The screws are so itty bitty teenie weenie that I can't work with it.
I have the H501S and it's awesome! I have one of these on order and am still waiting on it.
