Pro's
Onboard 1080p camera.
5.8 Ghz FPV system.
Lightweight transmitter with built in FPV monitor.
Telemetry information visible on transmitter FPV screen (quadcopter position, altitude, speed, remaining battery power, etc...)
GPS position hold and barometer altitude hold modes.
Follow me mode that automatically points the camera toward you and follows your movements.
Headless mode.
Return to home/landing.
Large battery that provides plenty (about 20 minutes) of flight time.
Con's
Altitude can vary (drop) as the speed of the quadcopter increases, or with wind. This is caused by static air pressure drop to the altitude hold barometer from quadcopter movement (or wind). Additionally, the quadcopter can not automatically detect objects in its flight path. Be aware of both of these limitations to prevent unintended impact with trees, or in my case, desert bushes ;-)

Quadcopter 101 is the hubsan h501s the same thing of hubsan h501s x4?
Yes it is.
"X4" is a designation that Hubsan uses to refer to their quadcopter RC products. So yes, Hubsan H501S is the same as Hubsan H501S X4.
Hello sir do you recommend buying on gearbest?
@ Villajin: If you like waiting ... FOREVERRRRR !!! for your purchase to arrive.
As always, nice review Q101. One very important correction. Low quad battery does NOT trigger automatic RTH . Only loss of transmitter signal by the quad will trigger the failsafe automatic RTH.
Headless mode reference heading for headless mode is not the heading the quad was pointing takeoff. It is the direction the quad was pointing when it enters headless mode and is updated each time you reenter headless mode. So if you exit headless mode and reenter headless mode, the reference heading will change. This makes headless mode practically useless for manually piloted return to home. Good thing it has autopilot RTH and GPS!
man that was so cool I want one!!! dang there's so much u could use that for and the 22 min flight time!!! too cool 100 thumbs up!

I have one account on YT and you have no idea what you are talking about. Besides I removed my link as you requested. The rest i have no control over
Thank you. That was very entertaining and helpful. I just bought this exact quadcopter drone for my husband's 57th birthday. I can tell by watching you that he's going to enjoy it very much. Sherry
Guys, please support the H501S X4 Facbook page, to help people find solutions to problems and share information :-)

That "follow me" feature is about the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Why would you not let your dog be outside? Let that dog take a piss and sniff around. That what dogs do.
The dog could think the expensive quadcopter was a toy and destroy it before take off.
The expensive quadcopter with brushless engines and no prop guards.
I would think the vet bill would be more expensive TBH... =p
Snake season?
I like the fact you went out to desert and away from people.. thanks !
I've been pleased with the H501S. Both the drone and controller seem to be well made. Unfortunately I've only been able to fly it in my backyard and won't have a better opportunity until the weather warms up. Oh to have the expanse of the desert to fly in. Thanks for the great review.
superb--best tuition on the web.clear and concise
I noticed (and you raised it after you realized it was too low) it didn't climb to a "safe" elevation when you hit the RTH button. Im surprised that it didnt. I know the 501C does.
Just wanted to send you a big thanks for all your great videos!
Sir, you are a true Gentleman.....
I have had this drone for about 2 months and 8 flights now. For the price and the features, it is awesome. That said, the battery life is shorter than the 20+ minutes advertised. Maybe filming all the time, a slight wind + the fun factor seemed to diminish this time. felt more like 12min. One big improvement would be: (Are you listening Hubsan?) Having telemetry is GREAT, however, if you cannot read it, it is useless. I CANNOT READ THE HEIGHT! FAA regulations and all... Like to make sure I am in compliance. HOW ABOUT putting an opaque black box behind the data so as to be able to read in bright conditions. You know, the conditions we are required to fly by law. A surrounding black box would accommodate this dilemma.
Well that was quite an fun video to watch. Looks like an awesome quad! Thanks
Just bought one of these after returning a cheaper drone, which didn't fly well at all. Hopefully I will not be disappointed with this one. Just under £150 for the drone with standard controller and an antenna upgrade kit.
Thank you for your vids, always enjoy your desert flights. Very informative. I am a newbie to the hobby so you are very helpful.
Hi Quad 101 -- i have been flying the H501 for last several weeks -- there are firmware upgrades (hubsanUS site) for both the quad and transmitter -- with important updates including the ability to leave lights on vs blinking -- BTW Hubsan customer support is very good!! -- overall a great Quad and there is a great case and visor for controller monitor available -- thx for your vids!
+Brian Gonzalez What is included with the important updates other than lights? As mentioned, I'm really hesitant to upgrade, unless the upgrade includes a correction to a significant problem.
+Quadcopter 101 You point on "if aint broken don't fix it" is a good one -- there was an update that created problems with GPS -- giving a "toilet bowl" effect as RC Flyer and others have called it -- Hubsan support sent me a pre-release of firmware that got things much better and i find it super stable not seeing the altitude drops you experienced early on - specially with windy conditions. One area that needs to be addressed is that the transmitter eats batteries fast -- i use rechargeable and that helps a bit. thx for great videos - i was happy to see you with this Quad!
Quadcopter 101 hello, thanks for your videos, they helped me decide on which quadcopter to go with(Hubsan H501s) I have a question, if I have 2 of the H501s's with the basic tx, can I bind either tx to either quadcopter? Thanks.
Hubsan H501s or Bugs 2 BW2?? Your are the man to answer this question??
Wow another great review.....that's my next Quad.
Hi sir again. I live in the UK. Thanks
Great little Quadcopter.. as always, thanks for the review 101
First off, I want to say that I really enjoy your channel. I am thinking seriously about buying one of these. I would like to know if you have had any of the glitches that have been reported on some of the forums, and if so, what kind of glitches? Thanks and have a blessed day!
awesome little Drone just what I was looking for!.......I hate all those other once where you have to use your own cell phone to control it.....I think I will get this one...thanks for the great video on it...
This would be a better option than the Cheerson CX 22, etc. Remember, this weighs in at 410 grams or so. If you're in the US, you'll need the FAA registration number on it. Don't be stupid and fly this over crowds or people. FAA fines are rumored to be $27,000.... This is not a toy... 7.4 volts is somewhat under powered with my experience. The lighter weight does help somewhat. No home point direction arrow on the telemetry. I have the Hubsan H301S powered glider with similar features.
No, I'm not that stupid.. LOL.. I'm from Ohio where I could not afford my house in California unless I had a million extra to drop..
410grams? And you need to have registration?!!
Thank you very much for your answer! Unfortunately nothing works.... I guess the gps module on the quad is broken.
Hi That's a very good video. Are there any reported crashes, drones going out of control for this model ? Also can we buy rotor guards for this and attach landing gear ?Thanks. for a response..
nx u most fly aways and failures i have heard about have been pilot error. Like trying to hit emergency rth without the unit being in gps mode. It really is a great quad
Hey there is a Dog in the Car! Make sure that the Dog did not get cooked by the Sun!:-)
Am I the only one that couldn't see the screen?
I could! There was a reflection of a head with apparently imaginary device stats.
Your a happy person i like it. Like your videos my friend
Thanks for your help with jyu controller bind issue. Sincerely William Horsley. Ps. Your doggy is a sweet looking baby
great video I like the tests you did on it
Good video. You missed showing headless mode. I have two white H501S es. I painted the bottom of one black for daytime visibility against the clouds and sky. The completely white one has a 32 LED cellphone photo fill light Velcroed to its underside. You can fly it to 400' up at night and it looks like a super bright star. You can fly it to its extreme range and it is easily seeable. I imagine anyone looking up probably wonders what the heck they are looking at. When it is moving out or returning home it looks like a UFO. :-)
+Don Fish Jr. (The Flying Fish) I actually tried to demonstrate headless mode, but forgot to hit the camera record button for the quadcopter. So my hat footage was edited out.
the photo cell light has his own battery?
thanx
+Paul Terl Yes. It is rechargeable using a phone charger mini USB cable. They come with the cable generally. Go to Ebay and enter exactly in birch box (mini powerful smart phone video photo LED fill light lamp) The ones you want to look at are 21LED or 32LED. The 21 LED is 50mm x 45mm x 18mm and weighs 18grams. The 32LED is 1/2 again as big and puts out considerably more light.
Thank yoiu very much Don!
*you
Just getting into the quadcopter hobby and want to thank you for your videos. They are awesome and so are you. Question... I bought a Hubsan H501s and was curious about a couple things. The first is, if I change sensitivity settings to normal, do I have to do that before every flight? Two, is it normal for the transmitter batteries to die so fast? Thank you in advance!
Master Jedi
Outstanding video and review. Good job...
At what point do you start to bring it back battery wise? I've heard that you should bring it in or on 7-7.2 volts so it doesn't drop due to low voltage etc. Thanks in advance.
I thought the dog was off for a minute, that would have been fun to get him back.
About that 11 meters altitude at start up, see if your location is around 11 meters above sea level.
Nope, this is the high desert. It's about 2,500 feet above sea level here.
Good video. Have you had a problem with the gps toggle coming loose? I just bought this quad and have flown it a couple of times and noticed it was loose. Do you have any videos on how to fix this or know any others? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Could you please post the make and model of the googles you demonstrate in this video. Thanks
Eachine VR007 goggles, currently on sale until Sunday here goo.gl/eGsyNm
Quad, can you do a review on the FPV goggles? I've been looking at a few. How would these compare to the, more expensive, FatShark ones?
...for me it looks as if you are following the Copter...LOL. Good Video...waiting for more.
+Hoschis I was at the last part. I had put the quadcopter into Return to Home mode, and followed it home to its automatic landing.
Hey Quadcopter. Believe I'm ready for a step up from my beginner quads, still learning. My question is, what are your thoughts about this products recent issues with range? Love the form factor of this quad, but I'm getting cold feet with the negative loss of signal lately.
Quadcopter 101 which model do you prefer the H501S or H501A
Im purchasing my first Drone I like the controller but think the table or cell phone has neat app features.
I like the H501A better as it works with all the optional gadgets that Hubsan has been recently putting out.
Follow me watch ruclips.net/video/Il97-cPIrlM/видео.html
Ht011a long range controller ruclips.net/video/VUE7ur36qp4/видео.html
Would not pay that price, check out the Bebop 2, way better camera and actual image stabilization on it
thanx.. now i now wich quad i`m gonna too buy... thanx from Norway..
Could you speak English? Because I can't understand you.
pretty neat quad mate :) love the videos subbed
david teddy the great thing about the quad is is the fact that you can add a lipo battery into the jst connector right in back into the battery bay
I added a 1200 milliamp hour battery that last me approximately 10 flights before I have to charge it
it fits nicely into the battery bay although you can't put the battery door on
there are also settings in the controller that allow you to go from expert mode to a beginner mode
Very True and Thank You
Nice..Thanks for sharing..
Very interesting!
Man, I miss the follow me mode on my Bebop2 . Just wandering if the firmware update can bring it onboard or I'll need to buy the newer version down the road...
Hello , I have a hubsan H501s and after an accident , I replaced a right front engine + esc . upgraded to 1.1.17-1.2.9 but now the left front LED changes color from white to yellow after a few minutes of flight . Battery change back to white, but after back yellow !!! because? thanks very
I have no idea. But as long as it's flying OK, I wouldn't worry.
can somebody please send me a link to a English charging cable for one of these? the one it comes with won't work
Sorry. The quadcopter will turn (yaw) about 40° to the right while stopped hovering at that distance.
Does the contents of the screen not show because of polarization, or low dynamic range of the camera?
what is the voltage when the battery is almost empty? also why does my controller tell me that there is 0 bars of battery left even though it's fully charged
Bad battery
amazing videos
great video
Can you get your hands on a CG035 and if so compare it to the h501s ? So far the only one who has the CG035 is Banggood.
What firmware is in yours? Hundreds of owners have been having major issues with this quad. Hubsan has pit out several firmware updates to try and correct. You have to have a newer one if calibration was not needed on start up. Curious what firmware you have on the quad and transmitter.
+Anthony Cirillo Actually, I think that the firmware updates are the issue. I'm a firm believer that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If there's no issue flying your quad out of the box, do not update its firmware, even if there are updates available. Many of these updates are quickly released and not tested.
cool dron, I have Hubsan dron, it always crashed :(
Sir in your opinion is this a good drone
Thank you for the answer
Hello, thank you for your answer! My TX does have 12 sats, but the X4GPS keeps saying "NA" or "0".
Take it outside, bind it to the transmitter, do the calibration dance, and wait up to 15 minutes to see if it can find the satellites at all. If it never changes from NA or 0, then obviously something is wrong with its GPS. Make a short unlisted RUclips video "clearly" showing the problem, then contact your vendor's customer service with this link to see if they'll resolve. If they don't help, then file a dispute with your credit card company or PayPal for receipt of a defective product. Include the video link with your dispute.
When you do take it outside, make sure that you're in an open area with a clear view of the sky (no trees or buildings blocking the sky view).
The controller looks the same as the H107D, are they cross compatible?
How do I save my videos and photos from the sd card on the quadcopter? I took several shots an when I turned off the transmitter along with the battery prior to removing the sd card no photos or videos were saved. do I need to format the sd card or what am I doing wrong? thanks
I can't get the video to play. Surprised he didn't mention that. Or how he made this video
I Can't find Hubsan goggles? Is there such a thing ?
I do have the same drone, but for some reason don't want to recored anything.. any tips!!! thanks
Do you think that it is a good option for a new user?
Thanks for the great video. How is the video this produces compared to that of the Phantam 3 standard?
The Phantom 3 standard includes a higher resolution camera and stabilized gimbal system for much better video. But of course you're going to pay at least a couple hundred dollars more for that capability. Also, I feel much more comfortable flying the smaller quieter H501 in the vicinity of people. It is a much less intrusive quadcopter than the Phantom, and much less likely to result in complaints from the drone phobic population ;-0
I have been watching other youtube videos of the Phantom 3 and to tell you the truth, I think your video looks better. The color seems a bit off on all the videos of Phantom 3 footage I have watched and the fine detail is non existent when the drone is in motion. I am not saying it is bad video, I just don't see it to be significantly better then the video you shot here with the H501S . The color of your video appears to be true to natural color. Did you have to correct the color in processing, or is this the non-enhanced footage? Thanks.
That is its unedited color. But keep in mind that I'm flying in the desert on a cloudless bright sunny day. Here are some other examples of H501 videos that I've done ruclips.net/channel/UC90A4JdsSoFm1Okfu0DHTuQsearch?query=h501
That certainly does help. But all the video of the Phantom 3 that I have watched has a slight purple hue to them (Some worse then others) and obvious lack of saturation over natural environment. The H501 has real crisp blues. It may be just tad bit over saturated, but that is not bad thing, and is common among budget action cameras. Thanks again.
sooo..... apart from the battery life,is this better than the h502s?
Why did you say the motors are brushed in the video? But the description says brushless.
Dillon Potter they are brushless. He must have just had a slip up
speed up up test the thing man nice videos
Hi, When in LOS, can the monitor be shut off to save battery? And what would you say is the better between this and the Advanced Version?
If it loses reception with the controller does it return home automatically? If so does It stay at the same altitude and then drop down when it's above the home point? Thanks
Yes . It takes photos just fine . But won't shoot video ?
Just to be certain, there are two different buttons. The one on the left takes a photo. But the button on the right side starts and stops the video camera.
Hello bud, this issue is driving me nuts. No matter how many times or how carefully I do calibration I can't get the P and R values on left side of remote to set to 0. On a level surface doing calibration to a T I just can't get zeros. A RUclips tutorial said to recalibrate the compass if values are above 1 or less than - 1. Do you know how to get my values back to zero where they should be when level. Appreciate the help. This is for my hubsan 501s
Don't worry about it. Mine are about 1 also.
+Quadcopter 101 thanks bud, the funny thing is its more stable than my other 501 that reads both 0 next to R and P. Now I'm seeing 3 for one letter and 0 as it should be good the other. I forgot which is what. The only issue I have it toilet bowl in follow me when I walk fast then stop. Besides that gps mode it's rock solid. Some fluctuations in height but they all seem to be like that. Appreciate your help and keep the videos coming. Love your videos and puppy. Happy flying
Does anyone know if the new Hubsan H7000 transceiver will work with this quad?
No it won't
Hi, can you tell me what is headless mode? Thanks for the video. Was very nice.
The following may help explain it. Different quadcopter, but same feature ruclips.net/video/bFtMIc7p8Oc/видео.html
Will this transmitter work with the 501C and allow the follow me mode as well?
Wouldn't there be quite a bit of duty on this? It probably works out the same if you buy it from Amazon within your country....just a thought
+Matty Webb not in the USA. But I can't speak for other countries.
Good review. Why don't you like the stick 'being centered'? I've just learnt to fly with a Syma XC51 and am looking to move up, but still want to improve my 'manual' flying skills tho' I'd use the GPS stuff also.
Altitude hold (center throttle) is appropriate if you intend to stick to GPS quadcopters. But center throttle would hobble you if you would like to try FPV racers with manual throttle control.
@@Quadcopter101 Thanks, not sure I get that. (I've just ordered the H501S, arrives tmrw). When you're operating say, the Syma XC5 isn't the 'center position' just a position that you just move through as you're throttling up and down? I'm sure I'll work it out eventually.
@@mgml There is no real center throttle position on the X5C as the original X5C does not have altitude hold. If you want to hover, you have to manually find that sweet spot in the throttle position where the drone will hover. On top of that you'll be continuously adjusting that position to maintain hover. With practice, "muscle memory" takes over, and you will eventually be able to manually hover without thinking about it.
@@Quadcopter101 Think I get you now. Yep, holding altitude is real difficult on my X5C-1. I'm guessing with the Hubsan I choose my altitude and then center the throttle to hold it? (I lost my X5C1 today. Didn't notice I had low batteries on the remote. I wondered why it wasn't playing nice this morning. Eventually it just kept going higher and further and didn't come back! It's probably somewhere around the north pole now).
@@mgml Yep, if you move the throttle above midpoint, it will climb. Below midpoint, it wil descend. Let go of the stick and it will automatically spring center and maintain altitude. And it also sounds like you ran into a thermal with your X5C ruclips.net/video/G0cJThsjN9c/видео.html
Very nice video. Thank you! Would you have any other recommendation: I am looking for an affordable drone that I could use when travelling. I love everything about the H501S (size, autonomy ...) except the video isn't stable (no gimbal). I would appreciate if you have a recommendation. That was fun. Thank you!
Although I haven't had a chance to review it yet, I'm hearing good things about the Tello. amzn.to/2FCRMLK
However, the Tello is only for close in selfie photos. It's not for long distance flying.
Quadcopter 101 Thank you! It looks good also but no gimbal so I believe the videos should also be shaky?
Not really. It has electronic image stabilization. Check out come of its reviews on RUclips to see samples of its videos. But again, the Tello is only for very close in selfie video/pictures flight (not greater than 20 meters).
Quadcopter 101 Thank you. What do you think about the DJI? The Mavic Air looks great but a bit pricey. On the other hand the DJI Spark seems to be offering the same features and better image for just an extra $100. I would be curious to get your thoughts. Thank you again!
I like the Spark. I got the basic version without the controller. It's great for quick selfies and vacation pics. ruclips.net/video/mjDRhfRXJ0k/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/1dpBKNbrbi0/видео.html
Does the controller have contact points for external antennas ?
This shoots better video than the Bebop 2, much better colors, brightness and sharper video. Bebop 2 has it beat in steady video, flying features (points of interest, waypoints, etc). And IF you get the Skycontroller, you can fly a helluva lot further (up to 1.3 miles). Also there is an app you can use that has follow me mode. Their own app, Free flight 3 doesn't have that.
That being said, the Hubsan H501S is a helluva value for what it can do. Makes me second guess my Bebop 2 purchase, but once I got the Skycontroller for my Bebop 2, it became a beast (as far as distance). IF it had a better camera, the Bebop 2 would be up there with DJI & Yuneec. This Hubsan H501S is quite tempting.
+scott rand i got 1.1miles with the h501s,antenna mod and prob could have gone further but battery meter is what stopped me.its not reliable, you got to keep an eye on voltage.
Pretty neat copter ... hefty price goes along with all those features. Like most everything about it except its built in FPV screen, which would be mostly useless in any kind of sunlight. Couldn't see anything in your video that you were describing on the screen, so we'll take your word for it. Had to go to the site to check its features, as when you first started describing it, you said it had brushless motors, then later in the video you said it had brushed motors, so I wasn't sure which it had .. and it is brushless as noted in your "show more notes". I'm sure Hubsan will be asking for your other arm or leg for the matching goggles so that you can actually see something. Then, there's the question about its range, both for the quad and the FPV signal. I see it listed as 300m, but, that could just be advertising. Would like to see you do a real time test of that range .. you could use Google maps to draw a line between take off point and where you lose either control signal or FPV signal and get an accurate distance. This one kind of 'breaks the mold', as it doesn't fit any real category: it's not a camera bird; its not a FPV racer. I guess it's ... ah ... innovative .. yeah, we'll go with that ... innovative! Good review ... I hope you kept your promise to doggie and let her out for a 'walk'. Cheers!
+Bill Somrak - Bill - Can you explain how to use GOOGLE MAPS to measure distance ??
+Yazgersfarm Bring up the area to measure in Google Maps. Zoom in if necessary. Right click on the starting point, and from the drop down menu, select "measure distance". The next place you point to and left click on, will be the end point, and a line will be drawn between start-stop, and the distance will be shown. You can also do this with Google Earth.
I am a 1 month old flier and an avid viewer to your channel. Currently torn between this, upair one, or phantom 3 standard. Where I live they are in the same price range.
Also, CG035 has been making some wave here and considerably cheaper.
What would you suggest?
Thanks before.
Phantom 3 standard
If you can get a Phantom 3 standard for the same price as this drone then buy it.
No seriously, buy it.
What are you still doing here? *BUY IT!*
if you have enough money for the p3 but it but I don't and this is a VERY GOOD drone
Now that can't be a toy, that's pretty serious piece of equipment. A nice piece of equipment with a price to go along with it. Thanks for the vid......
Just a note, in the video 1st you say brush less motor, which is correct, then you say brush motors which is incorrect (at round 2:30 in the video)
what sd card do you recommend? also what is your take on the super flyer firmware FC 1.1.22 and RX 1.2.12
where do you get the software upgrade software?
any idea how to set up the current record date? mine shows june 2012
Anyone else read “Husband” first place? 🤣

Thanks for posting this video. It was very helpful.
got one on the way....lots of possible mods gonna happen with this one😀
can you get the video footage when the drone records video
Just so you know... we can NEVER see the screen.
+Kenny Thomas I know. That's something to be aware of. FPV screens are very difficult to see in sunlight. Most people purchase optional FPV goggles to enable viewing in sunlight.
I wish I lived in the desert
You sound Irish, with your SOFT Skin. lol
I doubt it under 50 Degrees celsius in July
Awesome video! Cute dog! You have 2 dogs? I'm a cat guy though :P
you have this hubsan right?
Finally!!!!!!!

Whats up with the random creepy laugh?
teeman9266 lol
a clown
nothing just a nice man doing a good review and having fun
You think that is creepy, watch any StampyCat video and you will probably revise your opinion... =p
hes got a cute laugh
