I don't regret turning the channel to Cartoon Network one morning in 2011 when I was in 1st grade, that one decision lead me to my most favorite series and friendships with a lot of special people I'm still close with. Pokémon will forever hold a special place in my life and heart.

I doubt there's ever been anything quite like the internet in terms of keeping different generations interested in the same thing and creating a sense of community. I still remember getting Gold the Christmas after it came out with my GBC. I was watching some video about Source engine games and it was covering Garry's Mod and I saw people in the comments there talking about how they used to watch their dad play it when they were kids, and that was some really insane stuff to see.

I really do watch this video to fall asleep to, haha. It gives me a good sense of how long it takes me to fall asleep, too. All I have to do is rewind until I recognize where my memories stop and voila! A metric of how long I made it into the video before falling asleep! Great thumbnail, too!
I have chronic insomnia but something about dykg videos just makes me feel at ease and able to easily fall asleep. Thank you guys for making these videos.

3rd gen pokemon games were the ones that had made the biggest impact on me. Sapphire was the first version that I didn't have to share with my siblings and the one I could play with friends at school. I love learning all the history of the game's development history. It's the first game in the series in which you SAVE THE WORLD! I specially loved learning from DYKG that it was initially thought as a reboot to the series, because there was no backwards compatibility with the GBC, and that's why there were so many new pokemon and not a lot from previous gens.

i always find the japanese names to be very interesting when it comes to their western counterpart for example "jirachi" in japanese is ジラーチ (ji ra chi) and it stays the same, but names like "latios" become ラティオス (ra te i o su) because their alphabets don't have sounds like "d" or "t"

is it just me or does the reasons for making the 3d arizona inspired game like “agagag we’re gonna corrupt this cute game and add DARK elements and make it sandy ig” i feel like if they did atleast some research they easily could’ve made a darker/edgy game actually based on previously set up in universe stuff. pain and death plagues the land pokemon inhabit but its already hidden by the cutesy aesthetic and stories, they were trying to do whats been done the whole time but way less subtle.

It's crazy how in Japan, Pokemon had a million little crossovers and obscure tangential relationships with other Japanese brands and pop culture icons, and in the West, you will get copyright struck, cease and desists, sued for using Pokemon's brand or even just talking about it in the wrong context
That is true in Japan, too. Those crossovers were officially approved business transactions.

The idea of Mew being a talking jerk goes so far against how I had imagined it as a kid. I always thought Mew was this innocent curious creature who couldn't understand all of the hate from Mewtwo. I accept this as fact but I'll reject it from my headcanon.

Yo real quick, this video is labelled as 'to sleep to" but its legitimately too interesting to sleep to, there are SO many facts i never knew and I've spent literally hundreds of hours watching Pokémon videos/fact videos on YT.
Very impressive stuff, although not good for sleeping, especially when theres loads of beta artwork, i keep flipping my phone back over to look at the screen hahaha
I still remember finding my first MissingNo while on a hunt for Articuno in Pokemon Blue. This is probably the most remarkable pokemon fact in my like as back then I didn't really have access to internet. Thanks for the great job with the videos and translations.

That first part about Mew and Mewtwo, is there a released version of that with audio of mew talking? I swear I've seen it. Idk if that's just due to not having seen the movie in so long, but it feels real.

I always love listening to this channel as I sleep, no matter whether I know the series it talks about or not. My favourite videos have been the mgs and sonic ones! We all really appreciate how much time and effort goes into these videos, and I can't wait for even more to come!
I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the Spanish and Italian versions of Red/Blue/Yellow were translated without any kind of context whatsoever... The translators were given just a huge list of all the strings mangled together in alphabetical order... Absurd work conditions.
Gale of Darkness is still one of the best pokemon games ever made, and those animations / models looked better than current gen. And actually had size differences.. not a jellybean sized Whale pokemon. It took up the WHOLE stadium, and it ruled.
1:35:13 My opinion on whether the Pokemon designs stopping being simplistic after Gen 2 was always...divisive. In one side, it's good that it wouldn't get repetitive, on the other side i always felt that made Pokemon lose a bit of it's charm. WHICH IS EVEN WEIRDER because my favourite generation is the third one.

I went without it for a couple years after that, but since I've been really anxious the past few years of ny adult life, it's gotten harder and harder for me to sleep without some kind of safe sounding noise. I've been following your facts for...god 15 years now? Maybe more. I read through your OG site everyday and was always excited to see new facts pop up, so of course when you made a RUclips channel I jumped to see everything I could. I'm pretty sure I've seen every one of your videos except the ones that might have spoilers for games I haven't played yet. Your videos make me genuinely happy because I love learning and your format makes it so easy and approachable!!! And I love the effort you make to preserve gaming history which I think is so important to do. I recently saw a post comparing gen 1 pokemon to traditional RPGs at the time. While some comparisons were pretty obvious (like voltorbs being mimic equivalents), there were some cool insights (normal types being masters of all trades, comparing bug, psychic types to classes in final fantasy, dragons being, well, dragons, big and strong, at the end of rpgs. Even down to "gimmick enemies", in case being ghost types!)
I'd love to see a more in-depth look at these comparisons
I've always found it interesting to see how in media Pokémon are given the ability to talk, for sure even Mew would've had this "out of bounds" voice without actually articulating anything with it's mouth (because that's far easier to animate and the animators job is already though). Still, seeing how Pokémon with their different biology would do different sounds could be some Tolkien level material for developing languages
