  • Highlights of the descent and approach into Phoenix/Sky Harbour International Airport in Arizona. Today we're on a Boeing 747-400 in the descent through 10,000 feet for the landing on runway 26. A lovely clear day and some great views on the way in. A flight scheduled as 10h45 from LHR and which is the only direct one from Europe into PHX and also the only regular 747 movement at the airport.

I've flown on this flight. It's long, but the service on British Airways was amazing and the flight felt much faster. The 747-400 is completely different from the twin jets most people are used to. If you get a chance to experience one, take it, you won't be disappointed.

Very nice. I spot this bird overhead once in a while departing or landing. It’s especially noticeable on takeoff as it goes overhead: there’s no other jet in use at Sky Harbor that has that unmistakeable rumble!

oirudleahcim when they depart to the West they roll out off their initial turn almost directly over my house. My son and I always stop whatever we're doing and watch her seemingly slow climb. Thankfully flightradar let's me know when because those flights are never on time. 288, 289, 290 and 291 are all generally 1-2hrs behind.

I'm back from Phoenix. It was a nice trip! I also saw the DL A330-300, as well as a Kalitta 737-400 and Shorts SD-360. When I go back in a few weeks I'll probably be flying on either the AA or DL A330.

How did you wing your way to the jump seat for landing?? I used to do that all the time as a teenager, but 9/11 put an abrupt end to it.

Our beautiful artificial lake on the left there. I call it the river because that's what it is, just with dams.
I've flown this route twice. Sadly, BA will probably nix the 747 before I have an opportunity to fly it again.

Since the airport is in the USA, shouldn't the name be spelled with its American spelling?

Wish BA had bought the beautiful 747-8i instead of that horrible and ugly A380. I know it’s got to be a commercial decision but personally I would choose to fly with an airline that operates the 747-8i on a route over the A380
