Excellent construction quality, It's funny how I can pick the distinctive smell of old electronic boards. And just looking at them brings back good old memories, like when I repaired my grandpa's radios thanks for the review !

Correction: that was a 250 volt range on the Simpson 270.
Also there ARE internal cal adjustments on the AVO meters.

By the way. Voltage reading on the AVO meters were taken in the horizontal position. The others were all in a tilted position - that's how I normally use an analog model. Curiously, I don't usually tilt a Fluke. Hmmm.

I love my Simpsons and AVO's but the thing with the Fluke is more of an issue in the case of possibly causing an arc flash in a high energy circuit. A Fluke would contain it and just die without contributing dangerously to the incident. I have measured up to 2500 volts in a low current circuit using the Simpson 270, but I was still really antsy about doing it. I'm just a consumer electronics repair guy and most of my training and experience is on the secondary side of the power transformer.

Hi, I don't know your price range but get a Fluke 87 series V if you can swing it. You can get one in good shape on eBay for 200.00 or less.
Any Fluke in good shape will serve most purposes but if you will need the microamp range stick with the 80 series.
For general voltage readings at home or in the shop a good old Fluke 77 is hard to beat.
I have an 85 series III I'm thinking about selling - nothing wrong with it at all, it's just that I'll reach for the 87 instead.
