Very helpful video! Digital meters are handy sometimes but not ideal other times. Trying to troubleshoot an airplane alternator with digital is a waste of time. I have been wanting a nice analog meter for years. I especially longed for a Simpson 260. A friend gave me one today as a gift. I am thrilled! I'm learning everything I can about it and I appreciate this video.

We made infrared detectors. Any attempt to measure the resistance of one with a Simpson 260 resulted in immediate zapping of the detector. Most other meters (HP, etc.) were fine. That’s why we banned their use.

That meter can be dangerous. Even in the 80s, we were not allowed to use that meter for anything in the lab.

hahahaha...."dangerous". Always remember, a little knowledge is dangerous, too. These meters are NOT "idiot proof". They are from a time when the user actually had to have intelligience, experience and knew what they were doing. And also how to apply that knowledge and experience to the task at hand.

@@joehead1294 it has a terminal voltage over 10 vdc. There are many devices that can be destroyed by it.
