Another good video. This movie was the only official piece of d&d content I have ever enjoyed for the reasons you put forward in this video. It's good to see creators who value passion and sincerity. It's also nice to hear you talk about the "artistic ghetto" a vast majority of fantasy falls into. There's so much potential with fantasy but it's always relegated to grimdark overt subversion or bland copy pasted slop, And it feels like very few "fantasy fans" give a shit if the art they consume is any good or not, Just taking it up because it's more of the thing they supposedly like, no matter how diluted, stale, or miserable the art is.
I like your point of view. Many complaints that you raise are the same I had for a long time. Not to say that I didn't like Gritty media when I was 14 yo. I did. However now it's completely missing the mark for me. Many of those media have something besides gritty atmosphere that is interesting enough that I just let it pander to some devoted "Dark-Grim" audience. Imo this "darkening" of fantasy stems partly from subverting not only the "light and good" but also "grim and evil". In the 90's with films like "Blade" or "The Matrix" weren't really uplifting. If they try to be smart it wasn't really "obnoxious smart". They just lean 100% into the theme. Nowadays ? It's like believing in any kind of "good" moral code is cringe to everybody and they hate it with passion. So they literally denounce it every way possible.

I think Tim Cain made a video about this, how irony/sarcasm can ruin immersion
