Don't forget about D.O.R.F! It's another Command & Conquer-like game that looks like it was heavily inspired by Red Alert 2 in terms of its art style and graphics.
Actually, D.O.R.F. aesthetics are a lot more akin to a blend between KKND and older C&C titles. The granular pixel art and the colour palette is a lot more reminiscent of KKND but the units are a mix from Red Alert, Terminator, Valkyria Chronicles... Probably a whole lot more.
I am salivating over falling frontier, what has me excited is the supposed complexity of the strategic lair and the AI. If the trailers are to be believed, this thing is going to practice deception, baiting, lay traps, make faint attacks to draw you out of position all the dirty tricks a human would use. Damn I hope it delivers.
The 2 lord of the Rings rts games and "world in conflict" are still my favorite RTS games of all time. I wish they would have made newer Lord of the Rings RTS games for all the prequal movies etc.
Hey, I'd just want to point out. Anvil Empires is not an RTS. It's an MMO wargame. While it does have base building, resource gathering and strategic and logistical elements, those are all farmed by hundreds of individual players over the course of IRL days. Hopefully it'll be a good game, but I don't feel like it fits in a list like this.
They use one wrong game in their list so that there is some people who comment on the video to point out the mistake and thus helps the video visibility.
Tempest Rising and Falling Frontier are the definite RTS front runners for 2024. Although a more realistic release date for both would be sometime in 2025.
RTS games are getting back to glory this year! Please cover Nuke Them All indie RTS, we just released an epic summer update with new units & gameplay elements. The game is inspired by classic Z and KKnd!

Him: "Ehhh, could be good but I'll wait till its been out and reviewed, not too bothered." Me: "They just announced Frank Klepacki signed on for the OST" Him: "ARE PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE YET?!?!?!"
Hopefully some of these live up to their potential - we need something to get over the unmitigated disaster that was Homeworld 3. Too many RTS get the fundamentals wrong because they revert to the tropes of early RTS eg Dune/Warcraft III and C&C which are: 1. Wrong Scale in presentation 2. Micro'ing control schemes Real + Time + Tactics Should be much more about making deep tactical choices with units in real-time involving preparation, deployment, battle engagement, information war and so on. Imho too many modern RTS have the playing mastering the control scheme and units are sort of more akin to models on a table top than actual graphical representation physically of useful information eg movement units, time units all synergizing at the basic level of battle field wars. And imho real-time could be slowed down during combat for more information parsing at the peak of battle - most battles are won by logistics and planning in all honesty. Aside from that, I'm really liking Anvil Empires because it's adding a different spin to RTS with the MMO part and combining the tactical fighting in real time of many players with strategy, logistics, infrastructure and persistent wars like Foxhole.
Great breakdown. Cool video. I don't game anymore but I'm playing again just for some escapism and nostalgia lol. Some great lookin stuff on here. It was crazy to find out that there putting out an updated ago of mythology when I pulled up steam the other day. I was like, wtf!!
