Menace and Mars Tactics are two to watch on this list for me. Mechanicus 2 looks great but i need to get round to playing the first game, been sat in my steam library for months.
Those are the top three for myself as well. Mechanicus 2 is bringing a lot of changes to the game (good changes) and has the potential to be really great
9:32. “Viking-themed X-Com like game…something we are sorely lacking”. It depends on how “X-Com like” one is talking about. Old Norse settings aren’t especially uncommon in gaming, including the turn-based tactics genre to which X-Com belongs. The Banner Saga trilogy, Wartile, and Expedition: Vikings are a few games that come to mind. Dead in Vinland also involves base management and turn-based combat. And it may be a bit of a stretch but Battle Brothers has a Northern Raiders faction that is clearly inspired by the Vikings.
Are you familiar with Terra Invicta? From the makers of Long War? I guess its not exactly the same genre since there's no turn based squad tactics (replaced by real time space combat?). I've heard that its "Xcom but from the perspective of the council" which sounds novel and interesting to me, as an Xcom fan. It's still in early access and I hear that it needs some polish, but I'd like to try it at some point.
I've seen it on Steam and looked into it a little bit - it does look pretty good! I tend to put early access games towards the bottom of the priority list though since I figure they have a little more time in the oven. "XCom from the council perspective" actually sounds very cool
That's the beauty of games that have their own aestetic, most of those look awesome, unlike say games that are all made in the same engines and stick to the same pattern.
I want to dive into Dead Season, but I’m counting down the days until the next playtest of Gates of Pyre. Still have some epic memories from the last one.
I guess Menace seems to be the most promising game of these, with Mars Tactics and Mechanicus 2 closely behind. Kriegsfront is okay'ish, though I didnt like its demo. It is one of few mech games where I didnt really feel that Im using mechs - they dash all over the place and act like toy robots. Totally different feeling that one from BattleTech. Scramble looks like Ace Patrol, but more 3d'ish. Not sure about Norse - looks very much okay, and also pretty similar to Expeditions: Vikings in some areas. Could be good. Metal Slug - hard to say. Looks similar to some jRPGs.
I agree with those assessments - the mechs do feel a little floaty in Kriegsfront and I am not fully sold on it yet either. Mars Tactics, Mechanicus 2 are sure things for me and I'm warming up to Metal Slug
While I already have the heavy hitters here on my wish list this video still gave me an additional bunch of stuff to keep an eye on. Will they all be good? Unlikely, but there's a chance.
Mechanicus 2 and Kriegsfront Tactics would be the ones im interested in but there much much more out there but game being made dosnt mean we will get it any time soon.
