My heart breaks a little every time I think about how we will lose this talented man to such a horrible disease. His generation of musicians will never be duplicated.
I believe this was recorded AFTER his diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The words are poignant, his phrasing impeccable, and the twinkle in his eyes still there. He's now home, off the road, and his wife and children are true heroes for guiding him through the maze of Alzheimer's. All love to him ... and to them.
As per Google "“These Days” was originally written by Jackson Browne when he was only 16 years old and was first published back in 1967. However, it wasn't until 2008 when Glen Campbell recorded the song himself for his album Meet Glen Campbell." That being said, I prefer you're thought. ❤
i saw glen perform when i was just a kid now im a old man remember mom sing everyday house wife the songs sure fit the times and listening to them now makes me want to go back to those days
I think what I find most amazing about this performance was that this song was written by a sixteen year old kid that couldn't possibly know about the things that a much older man like Glen Campbell knows about life .
Brilliance. His timing. His phrasing. His never ending sincerity. His interpretation. His never over doing. The brilliance in the seeming simplicity he puts forth. Then, if you can, put a way the voice, and just listen to his guitar playing. FRIGING AMAZING. I love GlenCampbell so much. He has NEVER stopped giving to us. And he NEVER will. And, I guess I’m not one of the ones who considers him now sad or sick. Nuh-uh. While he may be in a different place, the only thing I fear for him are the white-carbs and over meds he is probably getting. God is right here with that one. All the way through. And so are we.
eye2eye2012 damn right. well stated!! just turned my 19 year old banjo playing nephew on to Glen, he cant get enough of him. i love it!!! Forever gentle on our minds.
+eye2eye2012 this is such an eloquent and beautiful tribute to an incredible talent. Thank you for using such verbal poetry to tribute a singer/guitarist so deserving of it. Campbell, and you, have a very humbling quality in what they say about our lives
Jackson Browne was an incredible young visionary writer to have written a melody of this magnitude when he was only 16 years old.Timeless melody that only improves with age.
Get a lump in my throat whenever I listen to this , not of sadness though but of just rememberin'. Reminds me of something John Steinbeck once wrote about being at the age where the end of life is now not so terribly far away - you can see it, like the way you see the finish line when you come into the stretch. I don't fear it, life has been wonderful and the promise of what's to come is too good to be afraid. You wrap it all around you like a warm blanket. This is what I think Glen is trying to share as he sings or at least my interpretation of it.
+Brian Bois Gilbert What a beautiful way to look at the mature years of life. With clarity comes a an uplifting wisdom that we aren't always able to see through the clouds of youth. I was in my mid-teens when I saw Glen on "Good Time Hour", and Gentle on my Mind was the first Country album I bought. I nearly wore it out and it followed me to two more states and a half-dozen moves until I was unable to unpack it and say I was home. Now, I feel so much sadness where his life has brought him and his family today, but I am so grateful for the honesty and their willingness to share Glen's last public days with us.
Mary Hill I think God was wise in the way he created us from giving us youthful enthusiasm, drive and impatience at times to wisdom, maturity patience and yes, alittle more caution than we once showed. It's a steady wonderful process that was meant to be and continues with the years until it's time to go home. I too have memories that come to mind whenever I listen to Glen's music. GALVESTON causes me to think of my cousin when he was in Vietnam, in high school, he and his girlfriend, (later his wife) walked the beaches there and rode the Bolivar Point Ferry back and forth, just holding hands and talking. He said when he heard that song overseas it brought tears but also helped him recall those simple, beautiful moments. The memories we've shared can be multiplied thousands of times for I'm sure Glen's music effected many the same way it has us. Not a bad epitaph that. This song is touchingly sad, being that it was one of his last, but there's happiness, hope and peace too, I like to watch his face as he sings it for there's a quiet acceptance and a will to just keep on keeping on.
Life is such a quick second, Oh the land mines we lay in our past, and now in the twilight of existence, regrets are common, but not imperative to daily routine. Glen is (not was) a pioneer in music, show business, and life in general. His delivery of this Jackson Browne classic is a must for anyone who has lived, made mistakes, found redemption. Just amazing, and I am blessed to share this time with you all.
Such a beautiful and poignant song.It really makes you think about how your priorities as you grow older and what a blessing this life really is.God bless you Glen.
RIP Mr Glen Campbell. Born:Glen Travis Campbell, 22, 1936, Billstown, Arkansas, U.S Died:08, 2017, Nashville, Tennessee, U.S Thank you for the music. I feel you said goodbye to us with this song. Goodbye, but, by your wonderful music - never forgotten.
You're right, he was never country. He toured with the Beach Boys when they needed another guitar. This is a great cover of a masterpiece by Jackson Browne.
true innocence of the man is hidden in all emotions that are safe from the world of informations and kept in memory for so long that that memory becomes new life itself; a life of compassion, understanding and humanity. Thanks to the people who try to create some affirmation of life from their talent
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, to the one person that had to vote a dislike for this video, pray to God that you never become world weary, saddened or downtrodden. While "These Days" is a Jackson Browne composition, each of the artists that have recorded it have put their own mark upon it, from Gregg Allman's being the most honest sounding to dear Glen's being the sweetest sounding. For Glen to sing this song with the sincerity and clarity that he does, is heartwrenching.
The man was a fine musician in which he never go recognition for I grew up with him from his TV show to his last album, Ghost on the canvas which I picked up a year ago at a library book and CD sale. I loved him in True Grit with John Wayne not many of the younger crowd knows he was a great actor. He lived a full life with his family who he loved so much. I saw him during his heyday a truly southern gentleman who autographed my acoustic guitar with pleasure not like some of the current musicians of today. RIP Glen I hope to see you on the Wichita Line up there in heaven.
Glen Campbell was my first guitar hero. I was 6 in 1969, and I remember watching the "Good Time Hour" with my family, and spending hours with headphones on listening to his albums. Strange for a 6 year old, and I would "play" my toy guitar and pretend I was him. That led to a lifelong journey in music. Played lead guitar in my own rock band for 4 years in high school, and my senior year I was lead guitarist for my high school jazz band. Now I have my own little recording studio. It is really sad to see him with this illness. I still remember him the way he was in his prime. Brings a tear when I watch those old videos of him from back in the day. Glen is one of the best guitarists of all time, yet one of the most underrated. He was a true musician. Played all genres equally well.
@Simon Green - Yes, his talent seemed endless: his natural vocal gifts (never a lesson that I know of), his guitar playing (again, not a lesson), his impeccable taste in choosing songs for his albums -- just an amazingly gifted human being.
Very inspiring. Very inspiring. Glen was the Vince Gil of the 70's. Such a player, singer, arranger. Personally, this is my all time favorite "Glen Campbell" song, though he didn't write it, Jackson Browne did. But Glen changed a word or two and rearranged it and made it better. Bless you, Glenn. Love!
Great version of Jackson Browne’s great song...such perfect phrasing, as in the way he lands on “highhhway.” And his slight edit of verse 3, using the word “healing” instead of the original “losing,” is absolutely genius, as that one word shifts the whole meaning of the song toward recovery and redemption....just beautiful craftsmanship.
Glen's songs have always conveyed a great deal of meaning and emotion. The difference is that now, with his passing, people are listening in a different way.
I love this guy so much. since i was a kid, and remembering all those wonderful Hits...that i wouldn't Fully come to appreciate till all these decades later. god speed Glen. SUPERSTAR. and now, with your passing, your legend grows even bigger and stronger. You are Loved. thank you more than words can express, for all your heartfelt, wonderful Music and Soul. it means so much to all of us. tears flowing, as i type this.... Never to be Forgotten.
A beautiful version. Very close to Nicos version in the 60's. She was one of the most beautiful women in the world and had liaisons including Jackson Browne and Jim Morrison. When I heard her in my car her voice conveyed sadness and torment. Look her up if you don't know her.
All the songs I have listen to from this album - Ghost on the Canvas get me at my very soul. Love all the songs. When you get older and you start to think about life, it funny what really brings us happiness and means the most to up us. It's the simple things that are most important. You have hit the nail straight on. God Bless You and Your Family.
First, kudos to Jackson Browne for writing a good song. Double kudos to Glen Campbell for taking it to another level with this cover. I suspect that Glen has come full circle in his life, and has thus, given this lyric an honest perspective vocally, that only a man of Glen's long travels can give. It also helps that Glen remains a great singer and guitar player. The arrangement and beautiful chord substitutions (probably Glenn as well, at least in part) also deserves recognition. Love this song.
this song just soothes my soul Mr Campbell you are sadly missed, your last Album blew me away, if you are still writing music up there then I have a lot to look forward too, RIP Mate !
This world is a far better place just having you share your life through your music all of these years. I feel very honoured to have listened to the miracle of your music. Never lost...never forgotten...always there in my soul....
Glen is and was for me an American Icon and and always will be, so I think you should maybe listen to the lyrics , Glen was saying something, about how he was feeling, I know he did write this song, but i feel it struck a chord with him, and as all Glens fans know there will never be another Glen Campbell.Love from us to you Glen and from all your fans in the U.K we are thinking of you xx
I want to dedicate this song to all of my former Classmates who over the years treated me so rudely while we were in school from the 5th grade all thru high school. The name calling was totally uncalled for & for whatever the reason was I cannot explain to this very day "WHY". I want them to remember me as the person who I really was, I have always said I will always be your friend but if you say something that is negative & disrespectful then you will not ever be my friend ever again... Thank you
GLEN BIGGER THAN THE GRAND CANYON AND THEN SOME .....BLESSED ARE WE TO LISTEN TO A FANTASTIC ARTIST AND HIS MUSICIANS . WAKE UP SAD LISTEN TO GLEN FEEL LIKE A MILLIONAIRE .X
Did Jackson Brown know what he was saying when he wrote this song? From Greg Allman to Glen Campbell to a lonely man who plays a guitar in an old country band.... these days... Thank you for this post. Thank you Glen for taking the time to let the curtain open.
Guess you never saw his interview where he say's " I had no idea the impact and the truth I was writing when I was 18 years old" So maybe you are the one who needs to just think before telling some one else to " shut up"
this is such a wonderful song. so poignant and touching at this time in his life. he is such a wonderful performer. this song tells so much about his life.
i am a big jackson browne fan, and normally i wouldn't want to hear anybody else do his songs, but i love glen's version of these days, even with the changes made to it--such a talent-it's sad we are losing him
Glen's interpretation of this song, along with the images make me melancholy. We all grow old, but here we watch him age before our eyes. I also remember him at the time when I was age 6 in the 1960s. He was youthful and strong, and now here he is, an elderly man with Alzheimer's. A beautiful song, yet simultaneously heartbreaking.
My favorite version of this song. Relevant lyrics for someone at his stage of life, his thoughtful look at 0:32, and his altering the lyrics slightly for a more positive narrative are just wonderful. I can listen to this over and over.
My heart breaks a little every time I think about how we will lose this talented man to such a horrible disease. His generation of musicians will never be duplicated.
He adds the most poignant sadness to this song. This cover is my favorite.
Absolutely. It's the best version of this very good song.
Mine too. Do not confront me about my failures I have not forgotten them. So true.

I cannot comprehend how a 16 year old writes this song. Jackson Browne is an underrated artist
i saw glen perform when i was just a kid now im a old man remember mom sing everyday house wife the songs sure fit the times and listening to them now makes me want to go back to those days
Glen- U r great. Love from Iraq :)
It's Glen's birthday today. What a song to remember him by.

Absolutely nailed it. Perfect interpretation of a perfect song, understated brilliance. As Hurt was to Johnny Cash, this is to Glen.
agreed, and yet 22 so far have voted this down. WhY??
God brought me here... prayers to Glenn and thank you Jesus for giving me strength.
Jackson Browne was an incredible young visionary writer to have written a melody of this magnitude when he was only 16 years old.Timeless melody that only improves with age.
Timeless song, timeless Glenn Campbell. RIP
I saw him in Springfield Mo. July 27 --- I cried when he sang Wichita Lineman. Glen is an American treasure who's music will live on for generations
Glen Travis Campbell RIP ( April 22-1936-Aug 08-2017)....love this song.
Happy 78th birthday, brother, and thank you for the great music.

RIP Glen Campbell. Legend and still a beautiful singer even in his late 70's. Amazing.
There is no one and I repeat no one who can cover a song better than the original like Glen.
Amen.
Such a beautiful and poignant song.It really makes you think about how your priorities as you grow older and what a blessing this life really is.God bless you Glen.
One word.....Outstanding!

Thank you for the music.
I feel you said goodbye to us with this song. Goodbye, but, by your wonderful music - never forgotten.
Glen himself once said he was never a country star. He was just Glen, played all kinds of music. That's an artist!
I'm not a big country fan. Glenn Campbell was a genius and Alzheimer's was probably starting to affect him and he was still amazing.
You're right, he was never country. He toured with the Beach Boys when they needed another guitar. This is a great cover of a masterpiece by Jackson Browne.
Just a beautiful man with a beautiful voice and wonderful soul. Thanks for all the great tunes Mr Lineman!!
BEAUTIFUL VOICE

He was wise. Got over that testy win lose head set
HIs songs now have so much meaning. Still beautiful stuff.

You are so true my friend......
Glen, in this song, says it all for all of us who have lived a full life. Not over yet, I'm in love!
A beautiful version. Very close to Nicos version in the 60's. She was one of the most beautiful women in the world and had liaisons including Jackson Browne and Jim Morrison. When I heard her in my car her voice conveyed sadness and torment. Look her up if you don't know her.
I'm so thankful I was able to see Glen several times throughout my life he was a true showman and a pleasure to witness.
Thank you so much Mister Campbell for all this good moments listening to your fine songs!!

Very very fine Mr Linrman of the County. Love all your songs
im in highschool and fell in love with this song as soon as i heard it. glad my dad has such a good taste in music.

What a beautiful song. Sung by a beautiful man. God Speed, Glen Campbell.

Did Jackson Brown know what he was saying when he wrote this song? From Greg Allman to Glen Campbell to a lonely man who plays a guitar in an old country band.... these days... Thank you for this post. Thank you Glen for taking the time to let the curtain open.
Nico sings it too.
Of course he knew what he was saying,,, what a freaking insult!! like shut up

Great song fro. Jackson Browne. Love Campbell's rendition.
Unique, soulful, nostalgic, just plain wonderful, his voice is part of the soundtrack of my life.
This is artistry. Modern " Country" radio is enough to make me physically sick!!! God bless you Glenn. You have always been a hero to me.
i am a big jackson browne fan, and normally i wouldn't want to hear anybody else do his songs, but i love glen's version of these days, even with the changes made to it--such a talent-it's sad we are losing him

I’ve now heard about a dozen covers and now this one. This is definitely at the top.
This song reminds me of my Dad and Uncle during they latter days just reconciling their lives tapestry.
I miss them both.

One of his sweetest songs.
My favorite version of this song. Relevant lyrics for someone at his stage of life, his thoughtful look at 0:32, and his altering the lyrics slightly for a more positive narrative are just wonderful. I can listen to this over and over.
This is absolutely brilliant, sad, happy , soulful and heartbreaking all at the same time!!! R.I.P My Friend
