I see a lot of replies to my previous comments and unfortunately a lot of those who replied failed to see my point. There are millions of intellectuals around the World who do not speak English. Speaking English does not showcase anyone’s educational level as Mr Marong seemed to imply. The man was given an opportunity to speak in the tongue of his fathers so the majority of Gambians who do not speak or understand English can hear him yet he stated due to his “educational level”, he felt more comfortable speaking English. We need to be proud of who we are no matter what our educational level is. I still think he spoke English like a Mandinka man and that is my opinion. And that is fine since Mandinka is the language of his fathers.

English is the official language that the majority of the Gambians understand not mandinka or what so ever you called father language isn't official.

I am with you on this and there's a reason the lead council put those options before the witness.

@@tunkarabubacarr8137check your stats well, you've got it plain wrong. "Majority of Gambians understand not Mandinka". That's indeed a bold claim to make.

Lead council: we would really appreciate it if you speak in mandinka for our audience.. Witness: no no I rather speak in my masters language. Not easy getting rid of those invisible chains.

Richlymellanated Man yep. Most of our people are still mentally colonized. “Toubab” and his language is “civilized”. Sad. Stay proud!

He may be well educated but his English is still not on point. However, that does not mean that he is not a smart man and just because someone speaks good English doesn't mean they are educated or Smart. Just my opinion.

You're right, one has nothing to do with the other. Earlier on some of us did mention that. Sadly some of our people took as being malicious.

We are a sad and sorry people sometimes. “I feel more comfortable to speak in the English language”. Yet the English laugh at the way you speak their language. Pathetic. You are educated I agree but can barely pronounce some “English” words correctly yet you are more comfortable speaking in the “English Language”, African English Man😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

English pronunciation does not define one’s intelligence. Furthermore, different places have different pronunciation of the same words. Americans and Brits pronounce almost everything differently. Inform yourself.
