Des Taylor takes a look at a really simple rig that is ideal for smaller baits, such as sprats, small smelts, and roach. Using a single hook the bait can be presented either horizontally or vertically, making this rig ideal for fishing on the bottom or up in the water.
Des demonstrates how to weight the float using shot to effectively create an uptrace above the lower trace to avoid bite-offs.
When the pike are feeding on small fish and fry, particularly in the late autumn onwards this is a brilliant rig, especially when the bait is slowly twitched back in mid-water to mimic an injured prey fish.
