I AGREE with Eric. This is the best adaptation of Superman ever because it doesn't just show Clark as a superhero but it focuses on the human side in the most genuine way possible. It's real and visceral and so needed.

This show is still really good. When Clark or Lois cry, I cry too. It feels like the emotional weight of cancer on both of them is really present in all their scenes and it’s been great, if albeit hard for me to watch. Personally I think I would enjoy a little bit more action (it feels like every Mannheim scene in his lab have been the exact same to me) but this episode moved that plot forward so I’m really excited to see more!

I didn't think about why Jordan stopped on the first watch through, but it occurred to me later that Clark had just told him at the fortress that he couldn't stop until everyone was unarmed - I think it was meant to play as a tactical mistake. It could also be the way it was cut - He was gearing up to heat vision her.

    • @BeyondTrash-xe1vs

Yeah, I think it was just supposed to be Jordan letting his guard down. After all, he's never seen Onomatopoeia before, so he probably thought she was unarmed when he saw her.

I like how we all know Bruno is a villain canon-wise, but this is an interesting twist to his character. I feel like he's not black and white, ie good or bad, but he's more grey morally. I wouldn't say an anti-villain though. But I almost feel sympathy for him, given his whole deal with the experiments he's conducting is him trying to save his wife in Peia.

Yeah, not to say Kyle did nothing wrong going out to meet his girlfriend when he should be watching his daughter, because that was a little immature.
But he was only gone for an hour, and Sarah agreed to watch her sister and is more than old enough to be responsible to.
My point is that the responsibility for the younger sister running away (forget her name), is the whole family's fault. It's not just on Kyle like Lana seemed to be implying.
Though in her defense, tensions were high and she was worried about her daughter. She may not have fully meant what she said.
And given what Kyle said at the end, I'm inclined to believe that she didn't mean what she said and won't hold a grudge, but who knows?

The camera zooms in on the barrels Onomatopoeia was hit into to before the scene ends, and she's gone. So seems the hit didn't knock her out and she got away while Clark was preoccupied with Jordan.
Now how she didn't get knocked out by that punch? I'm not sure. Maybe Superman was just heavily weakened when he threw it, or maybe her powers give her some sort of increased durability.

I don't know how cancer family support groups usually go, but I feel like that woman went too far telling her story at Clark's first time. He is obviously not ready to face the possibility that Lois will get so tired that it's almost cruel to keep begging her to fight it. He probably won't be ready for that for years, and he probably shouldn't have been told that story until he'd been there a few times.
George Lucas has said that the reason Superman works is because of kryptonite. He has to have some kind of weakness, otherwise the story is just this God-like character running around among mortals. I agree with you, Eric. The fact that the main villain in this season is cancer (sure, Bruno Manheim, but that story feels secondary) makes the struggle so much more compelling and real because it's something that Superman can't fight. I mean, I kind of feel like a man with X-ray and heat vision should be able to target and destroy cancer cells, or if not him, then the Kryptonian tech should. But that would be too easy. There needs to be this vulnerability for the story to work. And, of course it ties in to the fact that we love this version of Superman/Clark because he's a husband and dad. That gives him such a different motivation AND vulnerability to any other version of Superman.

My only issue with this specific theme (cancer) in this show. Is that conveniently these super-advanced civilizations and scientists that create unbelievable drugs, medicines and technologies, can't handle one of the most common illnesses such as cancer. This same plot could happen with a wide variety of superheroes and characters that are too optimistic and super competent, I mean, instead of superman it could be a very talented and capable police officer and it would have a similar effect.
