I love Mazzy Star. Such a hauntingly beautiful voice. Brings back good memories from those days.
born in 1998 but grew up on 90’s alternative/post punk/new wave of the 80s/shoegaze stuff. fade into you is my second favorite by mazzy star, just under look on down from the bridge
bet it was awesome to experience this kind of artistry in its infancy.
One of the most underrated bands. Hope Sandoval is wonderful.
PS...are my eyes going bad or is your camera blurry?
Actually they were highly rated and admired by the music critics from their pre Mazzy Star days (Clay Alison/Opal) in the late 80's through the 1990's as Mazzy Star.
It was the public who did not buy their records in huge numbers . So you could say unappreciated by the public.
Haunting?? Hauntingly beautiful.
Mazzy Star emerged in the early nineties amidst the Whitney vs Mariah debate.
Hope Sandoval was a refreshing breath of fresh air that knocked both divas off the throne for a few magical weeks.
A shy Angel with an incredible voice and delivery. One of my favorites.
They emerged in the late 80's as Clay Alison /Opal and morphed into Mazzy Star around late89 /early 90. The debut album was released in 1990.
This whole album is magic...
I used to work in the Mojave Desert where some of these scenes were filmed. The desert is stark, vast, quiet, and hauntingly beautiful. This music always takes me back there. There is a sadness in this song like something lost.
One of the most comforting songs from the 90's.
Haunting and yet beautiful. I'm glad you said you loved it also. This is an all-time great song. The fact that is hits people so hard says everything.
I first heard this song on Smallville and fell in love with it.
You should go down the Portishead rabbit hole starting with "Roads" then maybe "Glory Box"and "Sour Times."
Definitely.
Vocalist is Hope Sandoval, the slide guitarist is Dave Roback, they were the founders.
Dave died a couple of years ago now and is sadly missed.
Hope has continued performing in couple of her own bands, and has collaberated with Massive Attack a couple of times.
That ethereal and beautiful voice still astonishes to this day.
Have a listen to her songs The Peasant and The Spoils sometime.
Probably 30 years between the 3 songs!
Dreamy and trancelike, yep. Used to hear this on the radio waking up, the sound washing around me, and hearing only one line "I think it's strange you never knew" and it was all i needed to know. Perfect soundtrack to burning passions for someone, held inside until it rips your insides out, and they never knew... Beautiful song.
Haunting is how I've always described this unusual hit. I've always thought this is an incredible song.
Truly beautiful song
Seriously... I rated her as one of the sexiest women on the planet LONG before I even knew what she looked like! That damned VOICE!!! 😍😍😍😍
The guitar is being played with a slide, which is usually a tube of either glass or steel worn over the pinky, gliding over the strings instead of fretting the strings with the fingers. Whether the result is dreamy like this or more aggressive has a lot to do with the key (minor or major) and the tempo.
love slide’s when done right! my ex used a slide for one of my band’s older songs. add’s so much emotion and atmosphere where a track is lacking.
Dream like hypnotic and beautiful 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️
Hope Sandoval has a very unique voice. Absolutely love this tune.
She’s good, but Natalie Merchant from 10,000 maniacs is way better and Harriet Wheeler from the Sundays is amazing also.
She collaborated with The Jesus and Mary Chain on the great song: Sometimes Always
@@nedhill1242 Well we all have our opinions . Maybe Natalie is a bit better . But not Harriet Wheeler.
@@keithbate9405
That girl did a couple of songs. Harriet Wheeler did three records. And her voice is insane. Hope Sandoval is a one trick pony. The Sundays have influenced a ton of other bands. They have a huge following. Hope in a couple of songs. I mean no one that knows music would even remotely debate this. It’s not even worth debating. But you can have your opinion ridiculous as it is.
@@nedhill1242 Wow !
If you are going to post comments like yours I suggest you get your facts correct or you will make yourself look a little silly . We would not like that would we ? (lol)
Mazzy Star and Hope released 3 albums . Her Mazzy Star career exceeded that of the Sundays by time scale (only 9 years for the later) .
Hope then went onto a long solo career first with her new band Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions. Post that she has released solo material and still does to this day !
So your post is as I have suggested factually incorrect !
as for which band /singer is better is simply a matter of personal preference. I prefer Hope . Great tracks like this but also Ghost Highway, Into Dust , Flowers for December and many many others . The Sundays of course had some good material too "Can't be sure was always my favourite . But for me its Hope .
Of course the appreciation of all art which includes music is purely subjective . So your comments re "this is not open for debate" is arrogant and patronizing.
I get it you prefer The Sundays and Harriet. I don't . Its Mazzy Star and Hope for me . But I like both bands and singers !
ps Mazzy Star influenced many bands too including bands to this day eg London Grammar, XX
Cowboy Junkies "Sweet Jane" kind of has the same feel
Totally
Suggesting: Paula Cole WHERE HAVE ALL THE COWBOYS GONE.
hope sandoval is an enigma. a stunning enigma.
@dayone reacts it's a good song for a nighttime drive. your reacts are super chill, thanks for posting.✌
One of my favorites of all time. So melancholy. Hope Sandoval’s personality ignites my inner white knight and I need to rescue her. Love it!
Her voice 🎤and the slide 🎸🖤
Its funny that you said this song makes you feel uncomfortable.....its what i listen to when im seeking comfort.❤✌
It’s a hauntingly beautiful song.
sublime, understated, and icnoic. hope sandoval should have been a mega star but she would not have wanted that.
Facts
This was so everywhere in the mid-90s.
My wife and I chose this as our wedding song. One of our absolute favorites! Hauntingly beautiful.
Hope Sandoval does a great duet with Jim Reid of The Jesus and Mary Chain, “Sometimes Always.” From 1994. They were involved at the time. If you enjoyed her singing in “Fade Into You,” you will love “Sometimes Always” by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Peace out.
You get emotional listening to this song...which is what artist should have power to do to listeners
Still gives me goosebumps!
I have always liked this song. So different!
was so in love with Hope and still am
Have you ever been in a mall with half a dozen things on your mind, wrapped up in all you to do, oblivious to anything around you…and suddenly a song comes on and your subconscious pushes the music to the consciousness of your mind and from that point forward, you can’t focus or feel anything other than the song? This happened to me with this song
Haunting, sad...but simply beautiful...
Just gotta chime in here and say I discovered your channel accidentally while looking for a Carpenters video. I binge watched those and am now knee deep in your Bee Gees videos. I freaking LOVE your reactions!
Your hair looks spectacular! Love me some Mazzy Star!
Its haunting but beautiful in a dark methodical way.
Classic hit. Rip David Roback
It’s a love song. Amazing it’s soo on the point. It’s love 🥰
Love this song.
'Flowers In December' is a great performance of theirs as well.
I must agree that there is nothing creepy about this song. I am driven to tears every time I hear it because it puts me in love with the vocalist every time I hear it
I miss 90's so much...😢
1 of my favorite songs of all time!!
You hit the right word with "Dreams." It's dreamy. And this is a song you need to hear a few times before you really take to it.
It's a slide guitar, the best sound ever, it's bluesy, spacey and smooth.
another song that i love.............
their cover song of "Hair and Skin" is a masterpiece 🖤
Her poetic style, the rythem her shyness all blend perfectly with her silky vocals and sensuality draws me in and is hypnotic. Hopevcreatedva gravitational pull on my heart strings and I feel in love with her the first time I heard this song years ago and nothing has changed. So romantic and leaving you wanting more .
great analysis
The beauty of Hope and this song is it knocked Mariah Carey’s “Someday”from the number one perch on VH1 . Hope is simply divine sublime.
This definitely has that 1990's vibe! People were anticipating the year 2000 Y2K and a lot of people thought the end was approaching! It makes you wonder when it really will end! Maybe we'll get a chance to live this life again and make it better! Who knows!
Nope...we only have one shot at life and mine’s been blown
Another great post
I think it’s weird that you think this song is “creepy.” Haunting yes...creepy no.
Hautningly beautiful. One of my favorite songs of all time. The perfect bookend is Hard Sun by Eddie Vedder, one of my other favorite songs of all time. This song just about makes me crt every single time I hear it. Those lyrics, and that voice. I think its quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Making you feel too much? I get that. I'm stunned by the beauty of it every single time.
So to add to your list, any of: Dimash Kudabergen singing SOS (will blow your mind), Diana Ankudinova singing Wicked Game or Can't Help Falling in Love. Pretty much any music reaction channel needs to react to both of those. And then my personal pick, if you have never heard Eddie Vedder sing Hard Sun, add that one as well.
So cool they used this in Yellowjackets
A real favourite. Great song - dreamlike sadness...
Absolutely 1 of the truly most beautiful i ever seen and heard...😍 and the songs...... the song was ok, it was very unique.
OMG BEAUTIFUL
Real Blues voice.
Hope Sandoval - little Mexican beauty.
This song is very haunting and dream-like. Really loved it on the radio. But the video does make it creepy. She and that tambourine could be crawling out of a TV screen in the movie The Ring.
i guess there can be many interpretations to this song, but my interpretation is it's about being in love with someone someone, and that person is so blind, they can't see how much you love them.
It's an unsettling song to be sure, she's a caricature of shoe gaze.
It's more sultry vibe...Flowers in December or Rhymes of an Hour are my favs
I like how you lower the quality of the video, feels like im watching vcd quality from the 90s
Ahh my secret weapon played on repeat.
I'm pretty positive this song was used in more movies from 1994 to 2002 than any 10 songs were.
Just so you know in mid to early 90s a lot of young people going through relationships and losing someone they loved and so on committed suicide listening to that particular song it's very own theme song and for that it deserves recognition it's not a happy song of course but irregardless people will listen to it and appreciate it for years to come
If it wasn't for Sandoval's crippling shyness, she could've been a huge breakout mainstream star.
She's brilliant and some of theie live videos are pretty good
This track was used in more artsy type movies from 1994 forward than any other
Makes me want to join the Mobile Infantry and get a tattoo.
Agree Angela!
Look on down from the bridge is 💖😭🙏
This song has an inspired melody to Bob Dylan's, "Knockin' On Heaven's Door".
OG DreamPop
Are you from the great plains / midwest?
It's been awhile since I heard anyone other than my Mother use the phrase "the willies" !
This song is the essence of the 90's. If 1994 was a human it would have been Hope Sandoval.
It's OK to be uncomfortable 🙂 sometimes
Nice song.
back in the day it was this song or Lush - Desire Lines
but Hope's live version of Fade Into You is much better IMO
the intro music to your channel sounds much creepier to me than this song
I love to listen to this song and others by her despite the witch and witchcraft vibes coming from her.
should try the song into dust
Interesting reaction. There’s a simple answer here… the perfume commercial IS a bit creepy. That’s why Angela has the creepy vibe. ruclips.net/video/WVD0C3wgMYs/видео.html Once again, this is proof of her honesty, and highly commendable. We all have unconscious associations with music - she doesn’t precisely remember the commercial, but she senses the latent creepiness it evoked in her.
I'd like to see you react to Genesis: Firth of Fifth!
I love you Angela, what a beautiful lady 🖤
this song is about love so I can understand how that makes you feel uncomfortable
a Gucci commercial? Really? I don't think I've EVER seen a Gucci commercial in my life. I didn't even know there was such a thing. If you've ever been exposed to such a thing, and more importantly, remember such a thing... Wow I feel sorry for you.
Please react to KD LANG "Constant craving". It will blow your mind. All of her songs are awesome. But that's a great one to start with. ❤️
I don't feel the "haunting" part. I think it's just that this song is layered with her voice and instruments that on a subconscious level it speaks
to the deeper layers of your humanity and emotion. It's raw, yet softly puts you into a dreamlike state.
mazz ofy is pronounced jazzy thats slide guitar. yeah this song is one of the most famous in the world
Hope Sandoval FTW
This one has me baffled? What the heck is this song trying to say, maybe its too deep for me.
She's around someone she really likes, and they don't seem to know she's even there. She thinks it's strange that they never knew.
Western slide guitar.
That's exactly how I feel.👍
Life asGen X
That’s a steel guitar u r expressing - fear - of.
That’s a sleeper song
