2014 Ducati Hypermotard SP Review

- Around the MO offices, we're filled with excitement and restraint whenever a motorcycle with "motard" in its name enters our graces. This is especially true when we took delivery of the $14,995 Ducati Hypermotard SP. With its high ground clearance, light weight, abundance of power, and dirtbike-like agility, we were anxious to rip around the city and the canyons, knowing there would be very little on the roads that could keep up. Of course, motards, more than any other kind of motorcycle, compel us with a childlike enthusiasm to act like even bigger MOrons than we are, much to the chagrin of the local constabulary.

I had a tuned 2014 KTM SMC_R ! just bought this one and I have to admit it is a beast !! I put on a full termignoni exhaust and the handling and sound is incredible !! it just not a bike to drive fast on a highway, but who cares, the fun part s handling the bike in the curves and playing around !! Best bike I had so far !
+Yves Smt Hi! I'm going to buy a new bike, and i can't decide between the hypermotard sp and the KTM 690 SMC R. What do you think about this two bikes?
Gianmarco Russo Hey Gianmarco, both bikes are nice both completely different in handling. Im also an endurodriver, so if you have offroad experience you directly find yourself comfortable on the SMCR ! It's a bike with the same riding position as an enduro and the low weight is a big advantage when you're in a playing mood ( wheeling and sliding ). The Ducati is different regarding the riding position ( i put on a racing seat in orde to be able to move backwards in fast turns ). I'm 1m91 ! The standard seat is just nog good enough for tall guys like me ! Regarding the handling of the bike you have to be a little bit more experienced in driving since you have to work more on the bike in order to let it do what you want ! The overall weight and central weight point are just not the same ! Both bikes are nice but not comparable but both exceptional in their domain ! Depends like I said before on your plans and your experience ! Anyway fun you will certainly have whatever your choice may be !! grtz
+Yves Smt Thank you very much! Do you still have the Ducati? Have you had any problem with her?
+Gianmarco Russo Yes - I still have the Ducati ! No, never had problems with the bike ! Runs beautifully and I'm not planning to sell it ! Just too much fun !! Just do the maintenance as instructed and I think you will be fine ! Grtz
+Yves Smt thank you very much for the help man, you are awesome!
Awesome bike! Way to go Ducati!
This bike is 100% different from my 09 Hypermotard. Still looks like a lot of fun even with all the new gizmos. The only negative is drop in torque. Torque is more fun than horsepower when it comes to tight twisties.
liking yalls videos, but i think alot of us would appreciate more reviews of bikes that fit well in urban environments, such as people who live in, near, or commute alot to downtown/big city areas. it seems like every motorcycle is great for long, windy roads, but i think yall should also emphasize bikes that are great for low weight and city use. the only reason i bring this up now is that i see alot of hypermotards and drz400s inside of bigger cities around where i live and itd be awesome to see more reviews of bikes that work well in those conditions
That's not a review, that was a trailer for a review. Way too short:(
The voice over sounds like a Vespa guy named Rex.... If its you Rex, good for you man!!! Awesome machine!
Longer and deeper reviews please ;-)
this beast looks awesome!
Let's see a video vs. the Agusta Rivale
Im definitely getting one of these HyperMotard by Ducati. . . . I mean just look at it! Look at the Beutiful L shaped twin.
Big like for the last sentence!
Haha, Mo rons, made me lol, keep up to good Vids!
I love my SP
Yeah! Those Marzokki forks!
why is this review so damn short
I agree. A 2 minute video, less than a minute of talking. How much of a "review" can that be. Please don't cater to ADD viewers just to get the views count up. Give us some meat in there.
Jim Simpson Jim, there is plenty of Troy's delicious "meat" in the actual story: www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/ducati/2014-ducati-hypermotard-sp-review.html
kinda wanted a real review not an advertisement
Does the hypermotard have any off road capabilities?
What? No wheelies? You can't be a real hooligan without wheelies mate.
Now all I have to do is find my nearest Ducati dealership, as there isn't one here in Las Vegas, Nevada..WTF !!??
hmmm i want one!
What do you call this type of motorcycle? Spot/dirt?
Dual sport.
CrazyIn6thGear It's not a dual sport you tool. It's a motard. Some people call them supermoto. It's definitely NOT a dual sport as it's CLEARLY not designed to offroad.
its actually a hypermotard...
It's NOT a Dual Sport and it's NOT a supermoto. If you want to put it into a class it's either a naked bike or a hypermoto which would be a new class. I guess we should call it hypermoto because everybody does one of those supermoto look alikes these days.
Like Aprilia Dorsoduro or MV Agusta Rivale. They kinda look supermotoish but they are designed to only go on the road. They have usually one cylinder to much and way too much as well.
Yertle The Turtle Generally supermoto is a single cylinder machine and larger capacity twins are Hypermotards.
Nice.....
I love it...;)
show
Long live sumo... I think.
Doesn't sound like a Ducati should. They've lost it. Might as well make it electric.
snowcat
lol, that slow-mo was unnecessary @1:34
I think it looked cool...
