The only thing I think this movie really needed was a 30-60 second narration at the start to recap how we got to the beginning of the movie from end of seed destiny. Both as reminders for previous fans who may have forgotten some points and to help new people be able to follow some plot points. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but to me, it seemed like the writers actively used this movie as a way to correct all the things that fans criticized about Seed Destiny: the fact that they made Kira and Lacus into untouchable Jesus-like figures, how Athrun and Cagalli's relationship was screwed over, and Shinn not being able to be the hero in his own show. Add to this how the Destiny Plan was the bad guys' goal again, all the flashbacks to Durandal, and how the last scene with Agnes was a recreation of Shinn's defeat (but with him on the other side now), and it feels like they were trying to "correct" the way Seed Destiny ended.

It was in 2006 when they started the production of a sequel on Gundam Seed & Gundam Seed Destiny (the 2 Japanese anime series of Gundam) everything was going well for the production until postponement due to the health condition of the writer Chiaki Morosawa then sadly died in 2016. But despite this, in 2019 they resumed pre-production and then finally revealed to us on July 2, 2023 the title is the teaser trailer of the film which will be called "Gundam Seed Freedom".
Since its release in Japan on January 26, 2024, the film has earned over 32 million dollars at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film in the Gundam series.
Since I learned that on May 14th they revealed that on June 15th & 16th it will be released at the cinema here in Germany I'm surprised that it will be released here in Frankfurt where I wasn't expecting it but in the end on June 16th (on Sunday afternoon) I saw finally at the cinema.
A curiosity that before seeing it at the cinema I had thought that I would be the only one to see the film in which there were not many people but no, in reality there were half people in the room who are interested in seeing this film on how it will end.

Imo worth 20 years maybe questionable but its def worth watching as seed fans. The graphics looks hood. Action scene is good without much reused stuffs. The mecha also nice in general. And shinn got justice he deserved now (not the mecha lol).
Lot references, funny moments, and easter egg which made for seed fans, which is cool. But yea as standlone movie to those who never watch seed, maybe its pretty meh movie lol.
The drawback is villains kinda forgetable (partly coz fast pacing of the movie), their mecha also meh tbh, basically 5 similar mechas. Also too much soap opera and power of love lol (even more than OG seed and destiny imo). And ofc fast pacing as u said, which is still kinda reasonable i guess as we got used to watching seed in 50 episodes......

We got some Orphee and Shura, and maybe that's all we needed as far as personalities the others well they were there for the laughs and fodder, but still probably could have used a half hour more as far as their creation and their mothers motivations. Its kind of funny Shura is more remembered for what Athurn did to him rather than anything he did.

Loved the movie, want to watch it again, but have to wait.
This movie did need those 20-40 minutes to breathe, specially at the end, because that ending is fast and I mean super fast, they go from scene to scene to scene in the blink of an eye and it's insane how much action they packed in the least 35 minutes or so.
This movie could easily be expanded into a full series and more deeply go into the characterizations and motivations, not to mention give the battles time to breathe, as much as I love insane amounts of back to back action (I love the ending action completely, insane speed and all), but I also want time to process the combat, the feel of the battle, the flow of the conflict and while this move does an excellent job in doing that, despite the insane speed, those battle scenes could be expanded to give more time to develop and to enjoy them properly.
Specially ship to ship combat, which is one of SEED's surprising strong points, they know how to do space combat be both tactical and entertaining with all the nuances that ship combat entails, beyond just point and shoot the big guns.
Plus, the scenes with the Archangel and the Millenium could benefit from that time and give us the play by play of the tactics and strategies that make them such awesome warships.

The references and cameos were great. Nat/Flay, and other old stuff from OG seed like Tiger King/ Kira's friends. As a movie it really felt subpar. I think it's a watchable 5-6/10 for me. A lot of eye rolling contrived plot to make the conflict work. I really don't like how much Kira regressed in this movie compared to Seed. Sure he kept things bottled up, but he was vocal when he needed to be. They overused the exaggerated gasps way too much instead of just writing actual retorts. I'd probably put that at a 5/10 if it weren't for 2Mu and Cagthrun carrying their scenes. The Justice breaking out of zgok was really cool too. Plotwise, the ntr scenes got pretty tiresome cause you're just left waiting for the climax of Lacus joining up with Kira.
I will say that this suffers the same problem as the end of seed where, killing characters is not that interesting anymore. I would rather see them live and attempt to rebuild themselves with their new mindsets (My bias for wanting Flay and Nat to live at the end). And again, it was annoying how little Kira actually spoke in this movie until finally saying what the fuck he wanted in the first place after Athrun punches the shit out of him. Not gonna speak of Shinn cause all his scenes cement in my mind of how much of a whiny bitch he is 😂
Action wise, it was alright. It was mostly acrobatics with little tension. It felt like the fighting didn't compliment the dialogue. They overused the sixth sense detection to where I wish it was just mu and Rau having it. The telepathy + mind reading black knights was also really lame, But it did give us a glimpse as to how Athrun feels about Caga with the nudie thoughts 😂
Now I definitely feel like they lucked out with the OG Seed series with writing/action/visuals. It's hard to see a continuation of this universe without rerunning the nuke war angle yet again. This makes me hope that this will be the definitive finale and they put Seed to rest. Finally, the snippets of fan service was aight. Classic mecha cockpit angles. boobies, shower scene, and some lesbo hugs.I'm glad they got to close out the relationship arc for Lacus/Kira and snippets of the other relationships like Mu+Murrue. Especially scenes for Cagthrun, they cemented in my mind they're def together now.

Overall amazing movie, it got a little stupid (in a good way) at the end, almost like the imagination of a crazy kid playing with gunpla kits but honestly for a show like this coming out so long after the original, it's great to have some fun like this. In some ways it retreads the same water as the later parts of Destiny, so it's kind of like a redo of Destiny which is good thing also, because it fixes a lot of the problems with Asuka and Lunamaria. My only complaint would be all the bad guys have really bad suits that are somehow simultaneously not cool, not memorable, and also don't look like Gundams.
BTW I can't wait for a new modern Lacus figure, they made sure that's going to be coming with this movie.

It wasn't worth it for several reasons. Biggest is the Dub not using the Ocean Dub voice actors. I hate they way they say characters name.
I wish they would have reference Rau More.
The plot is God awful. Honest replace the Villains with Al Da Flaga clones and I would have been happier. Honestly if you know the lore he has cased the most issues in all of Seed.
Also Kira is a dick for letting Lowes Sword get destroyed.
That's another thing we should have gotten a Cameo of the Astray characters.
Also I don't know if maybe a blinked but I feel there was 5-10 minutes missing from the Dub. Like the whole sequence Murrue using the Wired Dragoons was cut from the English Dub

I'm kind of mixed on SEED Freedom. There is some really good stuff, especially in the beginning, but they kind of went full ham near the end which...... I don't know. I think it's because I'm used to the more serious nature of UC and the original SEED series that certain things didn't work for me.
I would say that there were some missed opportunities to flesh out more of Kira's unresolved PTSD from the end of SEED, alluded to at the beginning of Destiny until abruptly dropped. They briefly hint at it in Freedom but never really drive it home. And what I mean by that is...... the death of Flay Allster, his first girlfriend. Granted it would seem a bit off for him to be dwelling on this especially when he and Lacus seem more perfectly united due to it being 4 years since Jakin Due instead of 2 like in the beginning of Destiny (which is why this should have been resolved then and not now). And before anyone thinks that Kira is completely over this, consider who he sees when he is told to "fall into darkness" and what the ramifications are. This does kind of come back later on the film when confronted with Athrun and was a good moment.

It's like I was saying, there is never a bad character, just bad story telling

  • @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork

Gundam SEED Freedom is not the worst Gundam movie, but for a movie that has been in production for 18 years (per the interview before the film), the animation is absolute shit. It's like they had their interns working on the film. There were scenes where the character heads were HUGE. An Evangelion-esque scene towards the end made Kira and Lacus look like they were skinny aliens with deformed propotions. It was awful.
The plot of the film could have worked if the new villains were given any sort of character development whatsoever. There was this really cool in concept group of knights who barely did anything beyond a couple of grunts and a girl who kept saying she was going to kill whomever she was fighting. In fact, pretty much all of the new characters were trash. Kira also got to pull out his last minute god mode scene that also felt like something ripped right out of Godannar. The fanservice on Lacus' suit was hilariously bad. Worse, Shin was a much better character than Kira in this. How the hell do you mess up so badly that you make Shin look competent?
Even the fights seemed to get progressively worse as the movie went on. First off, there was no oomph to any of the battles at all. The movie lacked bass, which is unacceptable for a movie released in 2024. The rear channels were practically non-existent. The opening battle at the start of the movie was by far the best fight scene while the fights kept getting even more fantastical than the last to the point where the final one felt like it was ripped out of a typical Shonen anime.
Finally, I hate to say it, but the dub kind of sucked in this one. Easily the worst Gundam dub in a decade, if not longer. It was like they decided to have the voice actors bring all of the cringy acting from the original SEED dubs back rather than giving it a proper one despite having the new voice actors. There is one crying scene of Kira (because heaven forbid Kira not cry like a bitch for once) that was just painful to listen to. He had no emotion, but had to force himself to provide one. Athrun was easily the best voice in the film, though that could be because he didn't have much dialogue. He did get the best line though.
Overall, I didn't hate the film, but I didn't particularly like it either. The rushed plot felt like this was supposed to be a full series that was cut down to a 2 hour movie.

    Why do people hate Shinn:
-For blaming Athas and the Orb for the death of his family
He was 14 at the time and his isolation from the war made it so he didn't understand what was going on with the war. Put yourself in his place:
You live a happy life. Then suddenly war comes and you and your family are running for dear life while big giants fight all around you. And then, in 1sec, everyone you love perishes. And noone notices. Noone cares. Noone gives a damn. Everyone keeps fighting and killing for nothing. And you are left alone, sad and angry. And noone to help you through it.
He never saw who fired that shoot. He needed someone to blame but didn't know who or how. Only face involved in that battle he saw was Uzumis. So he focused his rage at Athas, blaming them for failing to protect his family and Orb. He was to young and at lack of understanding of the war.
Afzer Seirans runned Cagalli over, his anger was all about current, changed, corrupted Orb making his families death for nothing.
    -For disrespecting Athrun
    Athrun disrespected him 1..
After the Battle in Indian Ocean, Athrun saw why Shinn was so mad and what he did for those people, but he still over-scolded him out of fear. It was too soon after the battle with Sato and his men. Instead of admiting to Shinn that his actions were justifiable, but pointing out they are a team and had to work together and asking him to keep his temper in check, he started playing drill sargent, disrespecting him, belittled him, causing Shinn to lose his respect for him. Furthermore, instead of bluntly explaining to Shinn his anger may end up doing more harm to him than good someday, he kept giving him fortune-cookie styled stuff. Furthermore, despite the way Shinn meeting and falling in love with Stella mirrored how he met Cagalli and how their situation had simularities with how he and Kira ended on opposing sides, Athrun refused to acknowledge or understand Shinns feelings for Stella. He kept acting like a soldier instead of an actual person. And after her death, Athrun thought Shinn only wanted to kill Kira out of jealousy and gloryhoaging, and didn't try to find out more. He only ever saw worst in Shinn and tried to stomp it out instead of attempting to bring out and improve the best in him. He kept himself closed of, not letting Minerva crew truly know him. Also, Shinn didn't bother explaining Stellas death to Athrun since he already proved himself callous to the subject. Also, fan wiki confirms Athruns social skill in GSD was lacking
    -For trying to kill Kira.
Kira had just ended the life of Shinns 1. girlfriend. Meeting her made Shinn fell the happines he didn't since he lost his family. Because of her, he truly realised what he desired in life. And losing her made him feel the same pain of having your heart ripped out. Yes, case could be made that there was no saving her at that point, that she was as good as dead the moment she became Bio CPU and that Kira just put her out of her misery, but he was still cullpable. And Shinn was in no state to think with logic (and I'll confess, he doesn't exactly have IQ to do that without help). So naturaly, he went after Kira.
-For almost ending Athrun and Meyrin
Imagine yourself in his sho- boots. You just received a great machine, you're feeling good, you've let out your rage, you think you are free of your demons and you are just taking a break and have just sworn yourself to a worthy cause. Then suddenly, you get news that 2 of your comrades have turncoated and you are sent to play executioner along with your BFF. 1 guy, who has by now only been making you pissed, is telling you you're being tricked and that the worthy cause you're fighting for and believing with all your hearth is a scam, while the other guy, your best friend who only did you good, is telling you the 1. guy is nuts and to do you duty. He was in no win situation where he had to choose between his friends, and siding with 1 would be betraying and turning on another. Add that to Shinns 2 previous highly heart-shattering moments, and you get the picture. The situation drove him mad so he attacked the side he disliked more.
    -For attacking Orb
Orb had at that time, offered him and his comrades to EA, the same lot previously burned it down, after they saved them and rest of the Earth-based mankind, as a gesture of good will. Then they attacked them 2 times, causing many of his crewmates to lose their lives. And to add insult to injury, they, under Seirans control, let in, to say it shortly, THE WORST HUMAN BEING ALIVE AT THE TIME. Thus, regardless of his personal feelings, Shinn was a soldier carrying his orders to apprehend or eliminate the man who caused the war and all it had wrought.
-For choosing to side with Durandall
What Shinn desired and fought for was to make a world where noone would suffer like him. By then, Shinn had witnessed and expirienced all th horrors of war: innocent people, including a little girl (His family) being killed in crossfire with noone even noticing, an entire peaceful country being sacked merely for refusing to participate in the genocidal war, good men turned into genocidal lunatics by grief, political shenanigans, innocents being enslaved, abused and murdered in cold blood, children being turned into monsters and killers and used as weapons by madmen for the sake of sating their unreasonable hate and shear greed, people getting killed in vain, cities and everyone in them being burned to ash, his lover dying in his bare arms, having to expirience comrades ,,betrayal", be an executioner and tell a friend he virtually executed her only sister, superweapon being used on innocents. To him, DP didn't sound right, but it was by all means better than the hellish world he had witnessed. He wanted to change the world for the better, not for his sake but for everyone elses, so that things he saw never happened again. For things to turn out differently than after the 1. war. To end the pointless death and fighting. Durandall had promised such a world. Despite Athruns efforts, Shinn didn't know who he was at this point, not that he ever did. After Athrun came back from the dead, Shinn didn't know what was right anymore so he put all his trust in Rey, his closest friend. And he (R) led him (S) to believe DP was the only way to fix the world. Everything he had he owed to Durandall and Rey, and they made a lot of good points to back DP up, so he couldn't betray them.
    -For losing his shit.
And who wouldn't lose his shit after living a good, careless, happy life only for it and everyone you love go out in a blast leaving you all alone, go through couple of months enduring a total war started and motivated by shear hate and injustice, enduring emotinal turmoil and traumatic expiriences at an ever increasing rate. Many people in Gundam SEED went mad or extreme for less: Patrick, Sato, those little kids in GSS, Durandall (he started his villain arc just because Talia left him 'cause he was infertaile). Yet noone writtes ,,I hate them". Heck, yesterday I saw a comment vindicating Patrick.
He knew that price DP extorted was far too much. He understood Athruns words, and he was angry he (A) was right. He knew it wasn't right but believed it was the only way to create a world where noone will end up like Stella and Mayu. If he agreed with Athrun, it would be betraying Rey, the 1. bond he forged after losing his family. He couldn't deny anyones reasoning and got conflicted over it all. SEED mode amplified that. Images of Stella and Mayu he saw were manifestations of his reasons for fighting, of what drove him on. Not to mention his previous traumas. He lost and suffered to much to fast, he didn't have a strong, tough and cold charachter and heart needed to endure it or the upbringing to prepare him for it. He hit his limit. It is amazing he held together for as long as he could.
Conclusion: Shinn did nothing wrong. He trusted and was loyal to a friend (movies bonus novels confirm Rey befriended Shinn honestly) who took advantage of that. He tried to protect his loved 1s anyway he could. He desired peace more than anything, and Durandall used that. He had an incompetent Bright wannabe for a mentor.
I mean, the things he did pale into oblivion in comparison to fragrant atrocites Nagato, Obito, Madara and Kaguya did and caused for what they deamed peace after enduring simular tragedies and losses, and everyone says they are GOATs.
So, the way people call Shinns charachter in GSD hatefull is unjust and it sickens me. Writters didn't redeem him. They redeemed themselves for screwing him up.

Ok fair points shinn is literally a kamille clone and was kamille really that different (every fist fight kamille gets into with the arguma's crew)
1 him yelling at cagalli is justified it was her family in charge orbs neutrality that left them practically defenseless and led to the death of his family i don't think anyone would act differently here from his point of view sure he didn't know all the details of what was happening at the time but we shouldn't expect him to know that
2 stella was literally dying what do you expect from shinn when athrun is acting like char during zeta about four of course he is going to yell at him kamille would have done the samething we shouldn't expect shinn to know neo was going to put her in a MA gundam (yes it was naive of shinn to trust him but so is a good chunk gundam mc's)
Ok now here is my last point shinn is psychology damage clearly suffering from survivors guilt and possibly other mental issues you made him sound like a pycho when he went after luna but left out that he was literally having a mental breakdown and lashing out at anyone near him that scene makes me at athrun more than anything (and personally shinn should have won so he could have a rematch with kira) he doesn't explain or truly reason with shinn he gives this half assed speech no matter how much you want you can't bring anything back and your going to kill the future to some how get him into joining the protags triggering his ptsd and Causing his mental breakdown here orb represent only pain for shinn why wouldn't he be ok with destroying it athrun dosen't try to argument that it his family's home he should remember the good times he had with his family and is ok with destroying his only last link to his family

What they need to do is turn the movie into a full on 50 episode series

I spoiled myself abit by reading a reddit thread... But at least I don't know the plot that made it reach the point 😂

To be honest I have mixed feelings about the movie. It's nice but I have some problems regarding a few plot éléments.
I loved the animation and even the style they renewed it, made beautiful things with it while being faithful to the original.
The movie have some funny moments.
I enjoyed the movie and most of the action was great 😊

My complaint section would have been longer if I could actually specify- but yeah overall it was fun

I think the story was good, but they were rushing it. What they could’ve done is to widen the story line and split it into 2 movies!!🙂

You forgot to mention Gundam Seed's the usual nude shots
    Cagalli: What ?!
The movie should have Part 2 or Part 3; 1 year gap after the events of Destiny then suddenly Agnes appeared out of nowhere. When I was watching the movie, I keep on thinking who is this "Agnes"; did I overlook or forgot a character on Destiny ? Also the Rising Freedom didn't mentioned when Kira got the new Gundam.
Ingrid had character development but the movie already ended by the time it grew.

I mention it ar the end but they only really explain her in the prequel. I did a video on it that explains her relationship with Shinn and Luna

Agnes is a classmate of Shinn, Luna, and Rey, but because her family is rich, they don't send her to fight on Minerva but go somewhere safer.

to have anything seed without tmr would be a sin, that man LOVES gundam seed lol sucks both his characters were doomed to limited screen time (miguel & heine) though
