    I really like the way you've trained your dogs to dance. I have a question. I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback (possibly Doberman mix, but he looked just life a 120 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback) neutered male dog for 13 years. He was my everything, and I was his everything. He was very protective. I did not have any cats at the time, but I do now. I've heard that the breed needs to be watched around small animals. Since I didn't have cats when Wolfgang was alive, I don't know how he would have behaved around a cat. I have a feeling that he would not have been very nice. (I got him out of a pound when he was about 4 weeks old. My father named him Wolfgang as a joke, because he looked like a chihuahua, no big paws to grow into. He kept growing and growing. When he was 4 months old he got jealous, I think, of a 3 month old male Queensland heeler puppy that I rescued, and they got into a bad fight. That's why I don't think that he would have been nice to a cat.) I want to get a puppy, either a female German Shepherd or a Rhodesian Ridgeback. How does Hubby act around small animals, like cats (or whatever I might rescue)? Also, I would like to train a dog to dance, because my life alone, since my mother died a year ago, December 7, is just nothing. Dancing, I think, would make my life more fun. I rescued a border collie a long time ago, and he loved to stand on his two hind legs and dancing around with me to my radio. Anyway, do you know of any "how to" books or sites on the subject that you would recommend? Thank you for your time.

      Hi, thank you! 13 years old RR or RR mix is great number, before Hubby, we had 14,5 years old RR, he was like brother for me. Rhodesian ridgeback is breed for hunting, doesn't matter, how big the animal is, they just wanna hunt, unfortunatelly. Specially RR were breed for hunting lions, so it's like very big cat, but if you take a puppy, it should get used to the cat or anything else. But only for your cat in many times. I have two dogs now. RR Hubby and dackel mutt Sara. They are great pack, but together, they are dangerous for cats. But everything is about training. I saw many videos where RR and cat are playing, cuddling etc. Don't give up with it! And about book... I train dogs just by myself. We were just in summer on dogs training camp with my friend, who also wrote a book, but unfortunatelly it's just in my language. Maybe try book from Kyra Sundance- 101 dog tricks. Her tricks are there step by step and from basics, so it's fine and simple :) I think, you should find also her videos on YT.

      Ridha Dida ... Thank you. I am going to get a puppy next year, after I move, and when I am sure that I can devote most of my time to him or her. Although I am good at teaching (animals and human children), I will be exploring all of the methods and suggestions I can find, so that I give my puppy the best possible upbringing, which I know will be a continual process or journey. In fact, I decided to name my puppy "Journey Reise," or vice versa. (I looked up "journey" in Norwegian (my dad's parents came from Norway) & German, and saw that it is "reise," pronounced "risa.") Now, I just have to find my puppy.

    I have just got an 8 week old rr (called him travis) how much do they grow by ten week? Is there a big difference?

    • @DancingDogsCZ
      @DancingDogsCZ  10 лет назад

      Abbie Gowling Yes, they grow very fast and difference is big... But every puppy grows individually :-) Hubby grows most to 6 months. After that, differences weren't so visible :-)

      Hey Abbie! I had 2 RR and when they were both puppies, they grew about 2 1/2 lbs a week and were pretty much at their full size and height at 6 months old! After that, they’ll fill out and gain lots of muscle mass as well as gaining an inch or 2 in height!! So at 10 weeks old, you’ll have a RR that’s about 20-22 lbs!! Btw, I love the name Travis!! Sooooo cute!!! Enjoy him to the fullest!! I’m getting my puppy in about 6 months if everything goes according to plan!!! Can’t wait!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤞

      Besides the clicker, i see you don’t have a crate showing in this video. Did you crate trained him since younger? We have a 9 wks old.

    I have had dogs all my life. I consider them to be superior beings to people. My recently acquired Ridgeback is, I guarantee, going to be my best friend, BUT, you really must indicate to people who might think dogs are "cute" they can be very challenging as pups. They have the ability to destroy your home. They need constant attention and understanding. If you are house proud, think long and hard before getting an "adorable" pup. In my opinion a dog will pay you back in buckets. BUT, you do not do anyone, including the dog, any favours by not indicating the difficulty they can be when "adorable" pups.

      @@fatkiefbowls... You seem unable to tell the emotions of a person from what they write. I wrote that 3 years ago, after (correction: BEFORE) I moved to a new county, by myself, where I knew no one. I was very depressed from my mother having died a year before, and from everything that had happened after that, including multiple burglaries on our ranch, when I lived there for a year by myself, after my mother died. I was, also, still traumatized, anxious, and afraid from having been attacked twice on our ranch by I-don't-know-who, ... knocked out, and tied up. I had never been online (before my mother died), using a phone or computer for anything other than my job, so "Google" was still new to me.
      I JUST NEEDED to TALK to ANYONE, even if no one read what I wrote, because I was TOTALLY ALONE. I was trying to decide what dog to buy, who would make me feel more secure. I used to rescue dogs, so I knew a lot about dogs, but I needed a protection dog, who I would not have to worry about attacking someone, if I did not need protection. (I had rescued dogs like that, who would attack someone, and "Wolfgang" was one of them. My father put acrylic plastic over the inside of the windows in the family room to keep him from breaking the windows, when jumping at them, when someone he did not know was outside.) I ended up buying a German shepherd puppy from Protection Dog Sales in Kentucky, when she, "Pinot von Prufenpuden," was 6 weeks old, watched her grow up on RUclips, while she was being trained, and I flew from California to Kentucky a year ago to, finally, bring her home, right under my feet on the plane. Since having her here with me, and knowing what she is capable of doing (her 8-month-old video on RUclips shows her "bite work," and she tried to go after 3 perceived "threats" in San Francisco, that I was not ready for, but I was able to hold her back from getting them), I am no longer afraid, anxious, and depressed. I know ... I wrote all of that, again, just to get to the last sentence, that says that I am not feeling like I was feeling 3 years ago, so you can lyao, again.
