Let's be honest, the only reason people are comparing Stellar Blade to NieR Automata is do to similar female anatomy. Every idea it has was an idea Nier already put forth and did a better job at. Stellar Blade left its plot and characters flat so it can fit into tighter clothing, forgetting that NieR had a philosophical side or two. Pretty solid gameplay though.

The EVE you play isn't the first Airborne Squad member to be called that. Raven's dress and sword both say "EVE" on it. What does that mean? Well, we don't know yet...

at around minute 11 I had this idea... (before finishing the video, and without playing the game of course)
the whole operations were all was some sort of ai learning, creating some bots, so save or whatever the planet.
thats why they don't know where to go and stuff. just throw them on the planet, take the best results, and throw the next batch.
and since lily surviver was a "hot woman" who "survived" for 2 year. the ai "learned", hot woman is a necessary trait to replicate...

One of the documents in the game is written by a character who speculates exactly the same thing. That every Airborne Squad is indeed made up of idiots thrown into a random battlefield as some kind of experiment to see how they adapt. Nothing in the story confirms it outright, but you're definitely onto something.
Stellar Blade put all its points into its combat and character design, and then just hastily took notes from the story of Nier Replicant specifically, without understanding why Replicant's story works so well.

For me, it's actually very simillar with From the New World (Shinsekai Yori) anime
The people that keep using nier automata as a buzzword for the story i'm convince they never played it's more like nier replica but i already know way less people played that game to use that comparison so i'm sure everyone riding off someone else's opinion. Also replica did not invented that plot twist & Shadows die twice didn't invent perfect parrying.

Major gripe and only gripe: you should've included the Eidos 9 side quest as it adds one big continuity issue. Lily at the beginning states she was trapped in her pod for 2 years as a failed drop. We learn once the Airborne squad drops they are essentially left for dead. Yet somehow lily had a secret workshop and a friend named Iberis whom she kept in a cryo state due to be being damaged. At no point does she clear up how she managed this life style while trapped. A simple dialog would have cleared it up with her lying about how long she was trapped and that the first boss trapped her in her old pod while she hid when ambushed. As it stands it makes no sense.
I still love this game in spite of its many many flaws. The music and gameplay are great! The story had so much potential but needed so much more time to cook.
There's apparently a side quest that has Lily explain she's full of shit.

That is actually a mistranslation or a bit of poorly worded dialogue. What Adam means by saying that Lily had been in the hideout for 2 years is not the drop pod but that "Atelier" in Eidos 9. However, the context of the game suggests that Lily spent 2 years stuck in the pod.

Looks like you didn't fill up Lily's sidequest meter for the "True Ending", because if you had you would have had a level before the assault on the Orbital Elevator where Lily reveals she wasn't in that pod for 2 years. Instead, she was hanging out in a greenshouse with another "person" over on the other side of the city. That just makes how she was "discovered" at the beginning of the game even more confusing.
Regarding the "it's not so easy to operate a drone!" scene, I suspect that was a mistranslation since what Lily actually operates after Adam leaves is his ship. That lines makes way more sense if he's complaining about leaving his ship in her hands.

I am the Asian version. Judging from the meaning of the lines, she clearly said from the beginning that she would stay in a secret stronghold for two years. (Sorry, I used translation software to leave my message, so the meaning may not be accurate)

To those that played the game, did the devs patch out the input lag on the parry and dodge?
The demo had it and I don't feel like having to swim an ocean of opinion pieces to get the answer.
They massively improved on it compared to the demo. No more noticeable lag
They've fixed it and not only that but there's a piece of equipment that makes parry and perfect Dodge a little easier, equip that and you will have Zero problems with the combat
The demo is basically the first part of the tutorial level, so attacks & abilities are extremely basic. As you play & obtain skill points, you can upgrade your dodge & parry, making them much easier to pull off.
As for input lag...I never experienced it, or maybe I had but didn't notice.?
Lastly, I will say that while not perfect & also flawed, the game gets a lot better as you play & the deeper you get. I wasn't expecting much out of this game, but I was pleasantly surprised.
For context, I had more fun playing Stellar Blade than I did playing Dragon's Dogma 2, which is just sad.
They also openly admitted that the first patch to the game, which censored a few outfits and removed the HARD graffiti next to the R-Store, included a timing fix for the parry and dodge mechanic.
Played through the game in v1 before installing the patch for ng+. Didn’t have any input issues in either. Though, will say that the skill upgrades to timing plus the exospine for timing make the whole thing a cakewalk.
Not only did Dartigan condemn the horny-bait in a way that isn’t full of stupid political arguments, he also brought it right back into the focus of the game itself, all in the first 2 and a half minutes. Thank god. I’m glad.
Okay, so I was beginning to think you didn't know that Eve was an android until you mentioned it around 15 minutes, as a lot of your criticisms of the characters, their personalities and how they act is explained away by the very fact that they are androids and as Eve says herself she is made with the sole aim of participating in the airborne attack and killing naytibas. If they were humans then sure, it would be dumb that they just keep doing the same thing over and over again, or that Eve and other characters have pretty much zero personality, but they are not human, so it makes a lot of your criticisms in those respects completely pointless.

Artificial wombs will be invented eventually, but there is no indication that the invention will occur within the next few decades. The federal government will go bankrupt by the 2030s. Sad you stuck with the default suit your entire playthrough… no wonder you were able to finish the game. The rest of us are just moving the camera around for hours.
first thing i did with my playthrough was to switch to the bodysuit, and it took until the raven 2 boss fight to realize you dont have shields when you do that, which surprised me, because i checked the stats with and without the skinsuit to make sure nothing changes, and apparently, i missed a parameter.
Im by no means against hot lady designed ex: neir automata but i agree when dart says eves aesthetic design is very forgettable.
Happy to have been (partially) along for this rollercoaster, went to suss out the story after the streams and I'm _still_ confused about this game's world, how can one make a game so close to Nier Automata yet so far from Nier Automata at the same time?
Let me help you out there, fren (some spoilers below):
Man creates droids.
Man creates AI.
AI creates droids.
Man and droids have a war.
Man is losing.
Man create Naytibas as last ditch weapon.
Naytiba turn the tide and spread out like a cancer over earth.
Droids attempt to flee to space stations.
Naytiba follow.
AI (mother sphere) drop the space stations (the colony) back to earth - killing off many to save the rest.
It is assumed there are no humans in space. Humans are said to exist on earth but rarely seen and are either extinct or severely endangered. Everyone you interact with is an android of one version or another from pre-AI days through to AI/sentient beings with the exception of Adam and the Naytiba - who we learn are forcefully evolved humans.
So, there you go. Thematic questions are:
- what does it mean to be human? Is a Naytiba with human DNA any more or less human than an android with no human DNA and an AI for a brain?
- does the androids deserve to inherit the earth or should they be cursed to space or to non existence? Do the Naytiba?

Saving this video for later, since I haven’t finished the game. My only issues with the game thus far are:
1. The English voice acting (looking at you, Adam).
2. The platforming. Can be awkward at times.
3. The pacing of side quests to main quest material. If you want to collect everything, you have to put off most main story progression. I think this game has the perfect amount of collectibles and side quests, but not enough main quest stuff in between. It makes me feel disconnected from Lily and Adam since I spent most of the game away from them.
I agree with point 2 and 3.
I can add some points:
4. I personally found the fast travel system and the absence of a mini map very annoying and tedious. The game forces you to do a ton of side quests AGAIN in order to complete collectibles thanks to content locked by progressing in the main story.
5. Fishing is by far the worst and most boring part of this game. I'm fine when devs add fishing as something fun and unimportant to stop doing after 5 minutes in a game, but making it mandatory to complete entire quests is a big no for me.
Why is no one speaking on likely the best gaming soundtrack this year. The OST is ridiculously good.
Another sin point is that the voice acting is rough, especially charismatic characters like Lily.
For the moon one, they could have mined the moon out of existence to build all of the infrastructure surrounding the planet?
Sin 58 should be "Why the eff did you fly your ship directly through a sandstorm...aren't you supposed to be the BEST engineer ever...how did you think this was a good idea?"
Your sin is really not turning off your brain 20 seconds into the intro when the tiny shield blocks like 5% of the attacks.
The cursed British accent is perhaps the worst sin.
On a side note, life in South Korea isn’t as glamorous as their media exports. Koreans fight against impossible odds and overwhelming chaebols/consortiums on a daily basis.
Just like most Korean games, Stellar Blade is a reflection on the South Korean society. It’s literally in the face, Samsung means 3 stars, and there’s a Tetrastar Electronic in game.
I just beat Stellar Blade in 30 hours and I rated it 6/10

I didn't like the story plot at all. But the game is very beautiful. Only wish they did better story line. Hopefully there will be some dlc.

A lot of these seem like you didn't really play the game. Like what did they eat? they never eat the stew! Well no its explained why. Likewise, what LIly was doing all the time before is explained. You say Eves only memory is of Tachy....again, it is. and this is explained. You also say its like Eve was only born last week...again, she was. its explained. Maybe Im just missing that you know this and are being "funny" but the pace and tone etc dont come across as that and its like youre reviewinng without having played the game, or played only chunks and not actually got the stroy/read the memorystick/lore books ig.

I wish you could skip dialogue cutscenes like you can with story cutscenes. That pressing X to skip just one sentence at a time is bullshit! Pretty good game considering the company was a mobile gatcha game focused company. This is their first time for a console game and it’s an original IP. I would ask pay attention to what exactly. Because it was all covered perfectly. Maybe you meant to say it was meant for the player to pay more attention to Eve's butt? Honestly it's a great game. its one of the only games in a long time thats actually fun to play... As for the character it could of been a guy and I'd enjoy it all the same.... Great game and alot of people agree..

Actually having played the game to completion, I can say with 100% conviction that the "oversexualization" hype was way overblown. Is the protagonist astetically pleasing ... yes. Oversexualuzed ...NO. Not to the extent of causing suicides or mass onanism. Whoever thought that would be the case, I would question their pension for perversion more so than that of the people who actually purchased and enjoyed the game (which I might add included a female player base). Furthermore, it will most likely be nominated for Game of the Year. More specifically, it had many positive qualities e.g., great OST, visually stunning backdrops and character models (Naytibas were quite impressive), good combat system, vast linear and open worlds, decent (although derivative) storyline which begs the age old question of our existence in the world. Not to mention, it did not fleece you for additional DLC. The only good thing about all of the nonsensical controversy is that It got more eyes on a great game that otherwise may have fallen through the proverbial cracks.

Not a zealous fan of Nier: Automata, but that game, surprisingly, touches a whole range of topics that are a bit deeper than “good vs evil” we see in 90% of the RPGs., often not making a big deal out of it, which, in turns, has greater effect on the player.
I love how after all the controversy, a month later absolutely NOBODY is talking about this game 😂

I loved the combat, game is fun, but I'm not gonna pretend the story or the characters are great and well developed, because they're not. Such a shame because the potential is definitely there, they either just didn't put the effort in or they were too inexperienced in terms of writing.
Combat is good and I like the OST some story elements I saw coming a mile away....
And what some ppl fail to acknowledge is this video is just Dartigan opinion of the game

They actively have different likes and dislikes, so a game where the story is simple, but the characters are sexy with good combat is perfect. The previous game they made was Nikke

Games like these are usually focused on the gameplay, Metal Gear Rising and Ninja Gaiden Blackk are considered a Classic in the genre and they aren't exactly the pinnacle of writing, in fact when you think about those games, the last thing You about is the story
Well its an action games. for example I loved lies of P for its combat I really could not tell you what that game was about, like at all. I love stellar blades combat. But the story is.... ? well I don't even know nor do I really care. Its just filler on my way to the next boss.
I agree with the story potential. That's probably because alot of it is ripped from a nier story recap. But there is definitely enough concept there that a strong writer and actors could have fleshed out. The while "enya" side story for example

Anyway *design* wise for me: raven, Tachyon cause she ain't tacky😜, lilz, maid, that girl who's on about her sister's junk, the stellar creature designs, sphere loli, then eve. The first two are head to head though, for first... Could have honestly made the game about them and their trading-blows-rivalry-that-gets-their-blood-boiling, or something.

Loved the game.. (gameplay/visuals were very good).. I liked eve character also.. her auto rejecting missions was a nice touch

Voice work was a big/main issue though.. and i just didn't care enough about Adam/Lily because really you don't spend much time with them at all and aren't given much of a reason to.. Oh and what should have been an emotional scene mid way through the game.. was not because of terrible acting/va
They need to work on that/hire better people for the sequel.. but like i said.. i put 30hrs or so into the game.. did almost every sidequest (not the fishing) and enjoyed myself a lot more then a bunch of other recent AAA games
Was it the best game I ever played? No, probably not. Was it the worst? Far, far, far from it. For a mobile gacha game developer, not a bad first outing.
The choices from last video were for Resident Evil and Alan Wake 2. What happened?
Overall i think this is one of the best 7/10 games i've ever played. Great gameplay, amazing music with some interesting story threads, everything else though is meh like the story and characters etc.
I will say this i do hope we get a sequel and it'll be like a Assassin's Creed 1 to Assassin's Creed 2 situation. Double down on the things that worked and improve upon the many things that didn't.

I dont thi k the gameplay in Stellar Blade is good. Unless it drastically changes from what I played in the Demo this game is nothing special.
Bayonetta had the sex appeal and amazing gameplay. If you are gonna make the horny booty game at least make the combat good.
@@ZenGaijin the demo doesn't do the game justice, sadly. It gets much deeper a bit later in the game (like 3-4 hours). Also comparing bayonettas gameplay and Stellar Blades gameplay is silly. They are completely different. One is more combo focused, the other is more parry focused.
@foulXD There are parries and dodges in Bayonetta, and I'm not gonna give the devs 70 bucks on a game that doesn't hook me from jump.
The games are similar enough, but if you enjoyed it more power to ya, but i think folks deserved a better game.

I guess it's because people need way too much context for unnecessary things nowadays, they want the character to be slutty "because she wants to": funnily enough, Eve's completely unnecessary hypersexualization is a great proof of creative freedom(given that she's a terribly bland character), and as an artist i fully support it.
Also, a lot of people seem to not remember that yes, Bayonetta had a funnier approach to sex and sexualization, but was also *way* more vulgar than Stellar Blade: just look at the Joy intro in the first game.

Surprised you didn't throw a sin at Orcal for acting as a guide, directing Eve on where to go for her mission, almost like an oracle of sorts....Orcal, oracle; I can't decide if it's more or less subtle than Adam and Eve.
Stellar Blade: light on narrative, but with full hips of plot and cake.
I hope by the time I get to the end of this video he will realize that Eve and Lily are not actually humans. Till now he just nitpicks at stuff.

I kinda tuned the story out shortly after starting the game. The combat definitely takes center stage.

Story was alright, but everything from the beautiful models, costumes, ost, combat is just chefs kiss perfect. I don’t believe a game needs an amazing story to be good, because it’s a game not a movie; but it’s always a plus. In the end I think this reflects perfectly with what I wish the AAA industry would do and it’s focus on being games and less on being story heavy interactive movies. And also more fanservice cause sex sells. Ugly characters don’t.
so just make good combat in a forgettable game. got it. you do know the games that didn't do "fan service" actually had more sells.
AAA industry has to live up to a higher standard than that. they actually have to make a game that you can remember. not this.
IDK why people try to mention the fan service when the game actually doesn't revolve around that it's purely aesthetic u chose if u want her in a swimsuit or fully clothed there is tons of options to choose from. U think people 100 years from now are gonna remember call of duty or any triple A game. No it'll all be forgotten.
Hower rn this was their first console game and it was pretty awesome and sold great with tons of good reviews despite the bait and switch

this game plays average and the sound is average.
metal gear rising and ninja gaiden games were all actually better in every way then this game.
Raiden had a personality and in fact he had 2 who was trying to keep metal gears from being built and use to cause a world wide war. now he is and that game is rememberable
Ruy from ninja gaiden games had a personality and was a pure bad as and was trying to learn about both his family and his clan past as well as the history of his sword and life. he is and that game rememberable.

the story of video games is what keep people coming back for more and more. the game play is like "another game does it better". if you don't have a good story, none of the rest matters.
there is literally more than 20 games that does what stellar blade does but far better and most of them came out 10 to 20 years ago.
stellar blade is literally the same as telling a woman to "shut up and look pretty" because that is all it has and that is just not a good thing to do.

I’m not sure which side makes more money or which has a larger audience but mobile / f2p / MMOs have that design style where it’s beautification and game mechanics over everything, to the point where a majority of players skip the story. Some games like Nikke actually have a superb story and it does attach you more to the characters. But in the end story and lore is just a cherry on top for a lot of people and the main selling point is gameplay, outfits, and just how pretty the game is. I know the AAA industry has attempted to mimic this with micro-transactions (and failed) if they’re trying I assume it means they know how successful these games are. Anyways. You don’t get a game like Stellar Blade in the AAA market often so it’s making waves. No matter what your opinion is, whatever its doing is working and players are voting with their wallets. I know many girls irl and streamer girls who absolutely enjoy Stellar Blade especially for its beauty and fashion, and its the epitome of girl power imo. Pretty things are a power fantasy for many women. Eve is gorgeous and kicks ass while doing it. That’s how powerful women should be represented in fantasy entertainment. Not masculinizing them.
I love how everyone has to nitpick to find actual issues with the game.
Eve isn't even sexualized by the game itself, the only half mentions are Lily complimenting her body after a platforming section and one other mention.
Not at any point does the story itself ever focus on Eve being sexy, it's only a focus of people trying to find issues with the game.
Low key though combat in this is better than Sekiro, in Sekiro it's literally just "press L1/LB to win" with no room to experiment since the shinobi prosthetics are next to useless.

yea like even with bad/mid games in the past (Redfall, Starfield) I've never seen the internet be over critical and nitpicky towards any other game, and I highly believe if Eve was a guy, people wouldn't be as harsh, thankfully that crowd is quickly starting to move on (as quickly as they wanted to finish the game)
