Morris Day stopped by for his first-ever interview with VladTV, where he spoke about meeting Prince in high school and joining his band. From there, Prince and Morris formed a friendship and later recorded the first Morris Day and The Time album with just the two of them before forming "The Time." Morris went on to speak about Prince and Micahel Jackson's competitive relationship and how Prince went to Michael to squash their beef. Elsewhere in the interview, Morris spoke about filming Purple Rain and how Rick James hated Prince, which you can hear more about above. Развлечения
Morris Day came off like someone who's aged with grace! No bitterness. No negativity. Nothing but love for Prince. Kudos to Morris! You the man!
Dude I was thinking the same thing. Most people would aggrandize themselves and exaggerate to try to seem cooler and stuff but Morris obviously don't give a fuck which is the coolest. Plus he's not even being weird about the whole interview being about somebody else. This is awesome.
Good to hear from you, saw you at the Roxey years w
Great
That’s right
@@andrewkeith3912 great how Morris worked with Prince enjoy there music
Morris Day really told it like it was. This is the only person in Prince's organization that told the exact truth without bad mouthing anyone. He is a classy stand up guy. I will buy his book. Thank you very much Mr. Day.
I'm watching this after watching Apollonia, so what Morris saying about Prince, same sentiment I've heard from Apollonia, she accepted and love Prince they way he was, especially about the $$$. Life is so ironic , Prince was so tight with his money, never wanted to pay people he worked with, $300.000 for Apollonia and she almost died twice, broken pelvis from motorcycle on top of her, while Prince driving, 2nd
Hypothermia from the the cold lake, she said, she heard them saying, we're losing her, Prince was crying saying don't die, while him and a lady hugging keeping Apollonia warm. While Prince made over $50M.
Apollonia wrote 2 song wasn't including in the sound track either.
Yet he died and everybody came out of the wood, claiming for Prince money, he wasn't able to bring his money with him.
What you described is how a real man carries himself.
Wirh dignity and class. ✌️
He portrays humbleness & loyalty, which simply shows when your am honest stand-up guy
The Time And Prince Michael Jackson is of the ones I got for Hand pocket 1987
The Time And Prince Michael Jackson is one ☝️ the only thing 1999
Morris Day is more classier than ever! He knows how to speak with dignity and he looks so clean, fresh and handsome. His music is so uplifting. I love Morris Day.
Me too I always thougt he was hella cute. Im glad that he still looking so good he aged nicely
Still Love you still a BIG fan
Morris Day is a cool dude. Prince did him dirty on a few occasions and Morris never held any animosity towards him. This interview made Morris looked down to earth and level headed. He and Prince had a lifelong history in music and Morris was transparent about everything. It’s good to see Morris Day still doing well.
Let's not forget that Morris was a pain in the a@@ during the filming of Purple Rain, Morris was rebelling against the project. It is fair to say that both had issues, still they pass that and remain friends. Love them both.
I am pretty sure Prince regretted the bad things he's done to Morris ..

Tyson Miller Absolutely. Love me some Morris Day. He has natural comedic talent too even when he sang. Handsome man. Very articulate and intelligent also.

Tyson Miller Lando Calrissian wishes he was as cool as Morris Day
Sooo True, a living Legend in his own lane. A lot of young people don't know that P. Diddy " Piggybacked" off of Morris and Jerome. That's where Fonzworth Bently came in. P. started putting his " Royal Servant " on stage with him. Made Fonzworth famous. Morris was always talented. It was just a Perfect moment in time. Prince and Morris elevated each other. There is a difference between coat riding and no talent. In Morris case, They complimented each other. Living through these times it's obvious. Both Truly Talented. Putting Jerome in too. That's what made these bands so great. The comrodary amongst them. Remember everybody.
Vlad, man...we all love and miss Prince, but let's hear more from Morris Day! He's an accomplished artist and entertainer in his own right.
Mark, man....Prince & Morris grew up together & are forever connected personally & professionally -- In fact, we probably wouldn't be watching this interview otherwise...Naturally the convo & interview are going to revolve around & go back to Prince. Plus we all know that Vlad loves beef situations & digging into potential old wounds
…lotta people don’t really like to interview with this VLad dude.. Realistically, he does that whole “low-key dig” shit that a lot of rappers don’t get down with. You CAN interview someone and not do that kinda shit. It’s all in the delivery. Some people have it, and some don’t…like this guy. Morris has ALWAYS been a humble and “vibe” kinda dude….to me and what I saw of him through the years, at least.
@@Tarantulisimo because, leave it up to some folks, all they want is the sugarcoated versions of things and never the bad and the ugly, I guess. Smdh. This is not about digging into old wounds just for the sake of doing so. It's about putting things into context to understand better why certain things happened and how they happened and for getting a better understanding of who all these people are who we put up on pedestals. I guess some people would only love to hear about Kurtis Blow's version of Prince's "generosity" to paint him in the most benevolent light but would rather that Vlad not bring up how he treated Morris Day and his band, right? FOH!!
Yeah......Hella disrespectful to have me on only to keep asking about another dude. Even if he is dead
Morris Day- Beautiful smile, graceful, won't say a bad word against Prince. Thats humble and the Lord will reward him for that.
54:10, says a couple bad words about prince starting here
@@subreel12000 I wouldn't consider that as bad words in the sense he's obviously not trying to disparage Prince. If you don't like negative portrayals, don't make them true. Having someone fly out to work with you and cancelling them last minute then not wanting to reimburse them is a bad look that only he could have prevented. I'm guessing if he didn't care enough not to do it, he wouldn't feel too bad having it recounted.

Typical Vlad. Does this with nearly every interview.
Just a few days after Prince's death, my daughter, a flight attendant, had gotten a Prince symbol tattoo on her ankle and when Morris Day was on her flight, as he was deplaning, she showed it to him and he hugged her and told her that it was REALLY COOL and he also took pics with them.... Such a warm and approachable man!
SO COOL! , My wife was visiting Brazil for work she took our three daughters, My eldest daughter was and still is a music nut. She looked at folks as she was walking down the aisle and Jimmy Jam was in First Class. She politely asked may I take a picture..... This Monster of generosity took the camera at the time ( Not a darn iPhone) and shot maybe 7 pictures and my daughter had no idea the fellow that was sitting with him was Terry Lewis until we developed the film and I said Baby that’s Terry! One of the nicest men she ever met. She follows his Career to this day. The man was very nice to a gawky sweet kid from New Jersey. She never forgets this.

Mr. Day, your acting was superb in Purple Rain. I think you, Jill, Clarence Williams III and the music saved the movie. You in the hallway after you asked Prince, "how's the family?"
You were hurt by your own words and the audience knew without you saying so. Thank you for taking Prince's direction so well by keeping your hand in your pocket. Thanks for such an honest and fun interview.
First time I heard a person say 'Clout' was by Morris Day in Graffiti Bridge. This man is everything.
Morris Day..., the original king of swag.
*oddmodd* I wouldn't say "original".
Morris Day is a good storyteller and very entertaining to listen too, good sense of humor and down to earth
I think this is the best Prince Related Interview I have ever seen. Truthful, not gushy, seems very keeping-it-real vibe.. Thank you
Yup
Morris Day is down to earth. I met him and Prince and Larry Graham the same night. Prince never said a word, Larry was cool, but Morris was super cool. Larry actually gave me some bass strings that he actually used and signed my GCS C.D. MGM Las Vegas at Studio 54 in none other than 1999. My best friend actually got to talk to Prince for a few minutes which was incredible. What a show!
To be fair for everyone bitching about this being a prince interview, Morris literally titled his book “ a princely life” LOL there is no conversation about Prince without Morris Day and no conversation about Morris without Prince. End of story.

Morris Day is kind, sensitive, thought-provoking, and is quite an articulate good looking man with his own unique sense of style and class. I love hearing him in the long-form interview. Great stuff!
I love how Morris has obviously been hurt by Prince, but Morris still speaks so very highly of Prince.
Morris been low key dissing Prince Throughout these interviews. Ya'll really think people would care about Morris Memoir without the mention of Prince?
I don't think he's hurt but I do think he feels betrayed considering these guys have been friends since childhood and I am sure Morris thought when he put The Time together that Prince would let those guys write and produce for themselves which never happened.
Prince was a talented guy no doubt but as a friend, he wasn't very good to Morris. Vanity told a story that the reason she broke up with him was because of his controlling nature and she didn't like it and told Prince that but he wouldn't change so he ran her off as well.
I'm sure he's still a bit angry about certain things, and, assuming he's telling the truth, Prince did shit on him on a few occasions. But the fact is that had it not been for Prince, Morris would have never become a star and achieved success in the music industry. Had it not been for Prince, he probably would have spent the rest of his life working in that Montgomery Ward store in Gaithersburg, MD.
Morris became too reliant on Prince. Prince gave him his start which should have been enough. I mean look at Jam and Lewis--they knew what time it was

Well... I saw Prince when he was on tour in Houston, Texas many years ago when his Soft and Wet single was a hit song. Rick James was the headliner and the concert to go to at that time. Prince was the opener with Bootsy's Rubber Band coming on second!! Imagine that today??? Prince, Bootsy, and Rick James on one show!!! Concerts were soooo good back then and were affordable. Prince was not received well at all at this show. Everyone was aghast at the attire that he and his band wore. Andre Cymone had on see through pants, Dez had on rock garb, and Prince was dressed like...Prince. No one knew what to think of them at that time. Only Soft & Wet was familiar to the crowd and the rest of his set people were booing loudly and chanting We Want Rick (Rick James) especially when he started singing Still Waiting. My friends and I loved Prince even at that early age. A superstar in the making...
I love Morris Day! It’s refreshing seeing he really is a classy guy. Loved the interview Morris.
I just wish Morris Day saw a better financial windfall, sounds like he could have been treated financially better.

Prince definitely had a cut throat side to him.
You could buy his book if you’re honestly worried about it. That is sort of why he did this interview.
True but if he saw that Windfall back then during his drug use he probably would have been dead Prince ironically may have done him a favor
Exactly my thought! He deserved better.
This is by far one of the best interviews I’ve seen on VladTV. Morris Day has a great personality. And is very engaging. 👏🏾👏🏾
You can tell that there was way more untold stories and tension between Morris Day and Prince , he just didn't wanna get into all the sticky details and maybe also out of respect because Prince has passed.
Morris Day seems like a pretty cool guy. Honest, articulate and you can tell he really enjoyed the times he had with Prince .
The Time is a natural treasure. I love them.
Both "Prince" and "Michael Jackson" were so great, because they were shrewd and perfectionist!

Morris sounds like such a down to earth, level headed cat. Most drummers are cool people. He brought so much to the Purple Rain movie. He was so funny. Lots of personality.
The movie wouldn't have been the same without Morris!
Well Morris you are part of the Funk Music Legacy, The Time has been from the get go. Your path matters you are in the lineage and i''m so happy that you are well and things have worked out. Hell I thought all you guys were Prince acting and in the 80's you kinda had to be, but you and Andre are real brothas and I appreciate that. What I would give to hear one of those cassette tapes of the three of you rehearsing and jamming, man. You guys really put together your own brand and it WORKED.

Please the movie was totally about the music. None of them could really act except the "father" role. That movie would have done fine with Morris, it was ALL about the music.
The Time is an example of "everything happens as it should" Jam & Lewis fired (freed) become the greatest producers of all time, Jesse Johnson had a stellar solo career, Morris Day solo career and acting, Monte & Jellybean became great producers among other things, Jerome did some acting, contributed to The Time' s stage presence as well as production things but image for a moment if they took the lesser road and complained about everything where would they be???

Morris just keeps getting more valuable as a person as I get to learn and see what kind of human being he really is!! We already know how gifted he is as a singer, songwriter, dancer, entertainer, actor, etc. But, boy, who he is as a human being as I'm beginning to learn and see in him just amazes me and I have so much respect and admiration for his character and heart. What a great man he is!! His talent is just extra!! You inspire me!!
Will all due respect to Morris, I’m sure he gets tired answering Prince questions all day.
Most of his success is because of Prince. He wouldn't of titled his book that way. Also, I think he has no problems with telling folks how cold Prince could be.
It doesn't get any bigger than Prince. You can't even expect to be NOT asked questions about stuff like that if you were fortunate enough to have known him. Prince created an entire genre when nobody else had even heard about who he was. All these guys moved and shaked as a result of that genre. It is the sole reason many of them are who they are. They are inseparable in history and legends in their own right because of it.. Prince's story is their story. Even moreso now that he Rest in Peace and these guys are still here. It is what it is.
Depends on who is asking the questions 🤔
Morris Day is as cool as they come
Morris Day did an amazing job acting in Purple Rain in my opinion. He was definitely a natural. Very talented.

Prince gave Morris everything. He took him from behind his drum kit (he was originally supposed to be the drummer), gave him his personae, instructions on how to rock that, gave him all the songs and the rest is a wrap. Wow Morris is very humble and very relatable! Thank you for his interview
Great interview. Really enjoyed it. Thank you Morris Day and VLAD.
I got into Prince because of the Time. Prince always said that the time was always just him and Morris. That's why he objected to them using the name later. He was a dick, but he had his reasons. I don't understand how you could be religious yet treat your friends like dirt.
Cruel and claim Christian.. hmmm sounds about right!
Cruel and claim Christian.. hmmm sounds about right!
Totally agree...He talked about the industry treating him like a slave but yet does the same thing to his so-called friends which helped him make his money.
H~
Goes hand in hand.
That's the difference between just religion and a real relationship God .
The Jehovah witness religion is completely different from Christianity. I have researched the Jehovah witness religion extensively because one of my lifelong friends became a Jehovah witness and will no longer talk to me because I am Christian. Not only is it sad, it’s heartbreaking. 😢😢😢 if any of you decide to research the Jehovah witness religion for yourself, I think you will find it quite surprising what they believe.
Vlad I would love to see u interview more of Prince's proteges like Jill Jones, Dez Dickerson, Lisa & Wendy, Andre Cymone etc
@J Crash Yes I wish he would've stayed in the band longer I mean no disrespect to Wendy she's a good guitar player too but Dez takes the cake I love his solo on Little Red Corvette
Andre Cymone, PLEASE.
@J Crash Yea I know I think it was around after the 1999 tour Dez was Prince's right hand man
@J Crash I'm never gonna get tired of these Prince stories
what twan said!
I still my "The Time" album and remember the day I bought this- Love Morris- classy guy as always!
“Come by my house tonight. We’re recording” Too funny.
I don't know what's funny about it... maybe I'm just a music nerd but I say this all the time xD
I used to love to hear that.
Great book. I finished it in one day. Highly recommend it. I’ve had Prince, The Time, Vanity 6 and Sheila E playing nonstop on my IPhone since.
what an articulate well spoken individual, never mind the musical talent... prince's frankenstein or not, morris day epitomizes and personifies "cool" !
Best interview ever! So humble, and I’m anxious to buy his book. Will always be one of my most favorite artists.
I gotta say, that Morris Day has to be Princes most true and loyal friend. Mr Day is a true artist, and just a plain good human being. I listen to this interview, and he is far from the role he masterfully portrayed in the movie "Purple Rain"...I can't say enough about him, articulate and honest....thankyou for sharing your art with all of us!
