- Chaka Khan came through for her first-ever VladTV interview, which was conducted by Luenell. Chaka detailed her life story during her sit-down, including getting married at 17 so that she could sign a record contract, and joining the Chicago funk band Rufus, which kicked off her career in a major way. Chaka then spoke about her solo career and collaborating with some of the greatest artists of all time, including Prince, who Chaka said tricked her into meeting him at the studio for the first time. She also addressed how she gave Kanye permission to sample her famous song "Through the Fire," which she later regretted because of how he sped up her voice for the chorus on "Through the Wire." I spent time with her on a rainy day in London and she was so kind to me .She said at the time it was because I spoke to her like a person and I was genuine when all those around her weren’t . The shoot was amazing she shines from within.Her kids were lovely.About 2 weeks later I was about to cross the road at traffic lights and she shouted my name . I didn’t think that she would even remember me . It lifted my heart to this day. She is as beautiful as the day we met .Love her forever for being even better in person than she is vinyl.❤

This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen in my whole life. Everything you would want to ask her herself and done in such a conversational and gracious way. I bow to her and her talent and tenacity. It was great to hear about her bohemian upbringing and artistic parents and the back story, including her voice and her way of how she herself hears it. The horn analogy makes perfect sense. Chet Baker would sing as if he was playing the horn and you can get so much out of this interview as a musician or as a fan. She is a LEGEND. Respect to her always. A true true artist x LOVE HER

As a singer that started smoking cigarettes... I always felt this way then my voice changed a little bit but nothing can touch what I was put out here to do!!! She's still doing it so it's not too late for me. The issue of smoking and getting older tried to mess with my mind but I will never give up give in or do waste what I was put here to do. @@edwardwheeler197 Chaka's brother Mark Stevens is the male background vocal on "Clouds". Luther is on "Nothing's Gonna Take You Away", "Papillon (Aka Hot Butterfly)" and "Our Love's In Danger". There's no mistaking Luther's voice on "Papillon", it almost feels like a low-key duet! Chaka's first three solo albums imho had the best background vocal arrangements EVER!!!! There should be some kind of Background Singers Hall of Fame Award given to those talents!!!!

47 years of my life I've listened to and been loving this woman. I was 18 when I first heard that first Rufus album. I was in college and they came to perform in Pittsburgh. Show was "Rated X"...she would show her cesarean scar...it was 70s y'all so it got that rating. Her voice has been magnificently unique and masterful in every genre she has sung.from those days to now. Just an amazing artist❤. This was a fabulous interview. So real. Unjaded. Love love love her. The fact that she said " she didn't know Prince did drugs" was hearsay. Prince did NOT drugs on a regular basis. Prince had two joints replaced. Chaka said ankles. I remember it was said that he had had two hips replaced. I stayed closely to the news when it broke . Prince's band members also stated that they couldn't even get Prince to drink coffee or tea because they had caffeine and he didn't want caffeine in his body. The press is ran by the billionaires and the news is whatever they want it to be. It's best to listen to news reports late at night when not to many people are listening. Evidently Chaka didn't hear the authorities announce that the meds Prince took was not the pain meds the doctor prescribed for him. Same color, same size, but was not the right meds. An investigation was opened and they were looking at a female. So Chaka and everybody else who only have speculation , don't make judgments until you have confirmed info.

I’ve only seen parts of this interview on TikTok until now. When I say Luenell kilt this interview, she really bodied it. She is such a talented and funny lady. If I had to choose a “world’s greatest woman”, there would be no hesitation. Chaka Kahn. The all time great. I’m 45 and since I was 19 years old, I’ve counted her among my heroes, and quite high up that list, too. One of the sexiest women to ever grace this existence yet so absolutely talented that she didn’t even have to ever make that a focus. 20 years back, I saw her sing “What’s Going On” in the Standing in the Shadows of Motown documentary and by the end, I had tears streaming down my face.
