Erika Alexander and Tichina Arnold (Pam from Martin) are the 2 that I credit for making me love and appreciate my beautiful dark skin as a young teen during the 90's when it wasn't appreciated to be dark-skinned (at least where I was at in Brooklyn, NY). They also made help me to realize that there is nothing wrong with being owning my strength, independence, intelligence and beauty as a dark skin black woman when everyone else around me was saying or demonstrating the opposite.

I'm originally from Brooklyn and remember being picked on for my dark complexion. From elementary school to middle school, it didn't happen often but when it did I was so surprised that kids so young could harbor such hate for another's skin tone. Made me appreciate how I was raised.

The 90’s had so many powerful black shows; Living Single, Roc, etc. Ae took two giant steps backwards in the 2000’s with a few exceptions. Smh.

She is so poised and elegant and it was so good to learn a lot of the behind the scenes of her life and the industry that helped me make sense of the past and the present! We often don't realize how much racism and prejudice is baked into the system. We've got to know positive black representation matters and we must support ppl like Erica who understand this!!! I don't have time for black foolery...no mam Pam! This had to be one of TBC's best interviews...I didn't even watch it on double speed! Do more of these because she is one of our black female trailblazers that even prepared the way for some of the "new Black female leads" she speaks of.
