There is much value in being multi-lingual. Americans are near the top, in people living in developed countries, who don't speak multiple languages. That wouldn't be such a problem, if we were self sufficient as a group, but we are not that. We don't have enough schools to educate ourselves, nor can we independently provide the necessities of life for ourselves. The words Queen and King are from the oppressor's language, African people had words for their leadership, yet even Afrocentric/Pan-Africanist Black people use these terms. Even the word African, is not our word, but the world accepts it, even Africans. But Africans know who they are in their own words, as well. Their focus is more narrow than the entire continent. Their ethnicity is there primary focus. The word Africa is less a problem than is the use of the terms KING and Queen. The average Black person who hear those terms think of someone like Elizabeth of England and Ferdinand of Spain. What do they mean for people of Africa and the Black African Diaspora, if not colonization and worst? Black people have not employed critical thinking nearly enough, in our struggles. It is far more fundamental and thus valuable to our struggle than is Critical Race Theory. Not all of us need to understand CRT, but all of us need to be able to apply critical thinking in all we do.

    • @SP-fw1xe
      @SP-fw1xe 9 месяцев назад +2

Exactly. I go to Michelin star restaurants and the majority of the time, the music being played overhead is exclusively R&B. We need to recognize our influence and capitalize on it and stop talking about being sellouts. Someone is selling it and making money from it, and if we are the creators, then it should be us ho are the main beneficiaries. Our music, our slang, our street style, our art, our idealism. We are influential and influence is power if it is harnessed correctly.

I love the smarts of Erika Alexander she's always articulated facts about the movie, tv industry, she is a accomplished actress, excelling in everything she does as all of these men and women of color always have to supersede their counterparts and they always are having to negotiate pay when their counterparts have less talent and they get a better pay salary out the gate, so the more men and women in the industry open their mouths and discuss the disparities the better the pay scale will be even across the board, receiving a tony a Grammy,a emmy, an academy obviously does not translate to earning more money for people of color and this needs to stop ASAP!!!

I'm so blessed to have been surrounded by strong black woman like this. She is and has always been beautifully and boldly black. Love the energy she brings and I have never seen her in a bad movie.

She speaks so eloquently ❤ i agree that when you brand something as black cinema, black this and that, you put yourself in a box. As someone who's not black, i would feel like i cannot relate and so would not even give it a chance.

Wow. This was as informative as it was invoking. Another fantastic Erika Alexander Breakfast Club interview in the books. Gems on top of gems. Ms. Alexander is exceptional in every way and even though we're not even out of the first month of the new year, gonna call it by saying this is and will be one of the best BC interviews this year. Looking forward to watching American Fiction.

    🎉🎉🎉ORIGINS movie
    was a pleasure to watch.
It felt like a relatable film with a Heavy weight cast.
Watching the trailer I was like "oh wow" a cast of heavy weights.
    They were fantastic!
19:14 that scene conveyed her feminity, delicacy, and a "cleansing" quality that had both a reHydrating & Redemptive quality that they Both needed.
    #RealLife
    ❤ the interview.
Erika Alexander you are so well spoken,Classy Grounded Bold and Desirable.
PS: E.A (male perspective) the way you projected maturity, confidence and prowess was phenomenal.
You went for what you wanted, was supportive an was even willing to walk away all while being a mature woman of color.

28:47 That is absolutely the dumbest thing I heard Charla say. There is zero difference in intelligence when it comes to men and women. And Erika is a true queen to correct him in that manner. This is the mindset that all black people need to have when we see each other. Thank you Erika, she is exhibiting true brilliance.

“Black people shouldn’t always have to save everybody including us” Yes we shouldn’t always have to choose a movie because it’s black . My friends just talked about not always having an interest in ALL black movies but we go because we know the barriers they face and the fact that they don’t always do well. But if they market the movies with black leads more , we don’t always have to save the movie or feel pressured to go see it.
