Andre should write a book. He is a very intelligent and interesting person
Also very good looking.
I wished there was an animated version of Andre's stories like Cinemax's Tales From the Tour Bus.
True.
dude that'd be hella cool
Andre Cymone, always has beautiful and intelligent words of wisdom about his friend ( Prince) love hearing anything he has to say! Great interview keep them coming 💜💜💜💜💜🎸
Great interview. Love hearing from Andre and stories about him and Prince growing up. What a journey they both had, i'm glad they were able to reconciletheir differences, they truly were brothers.
Andre Simone and the rest of the Minneapolis movement are all we have left of Prince...but they are all master musicians in their own right.Andre Cymone still looks youthful !!!! I wish i could have been a fly on the wall back in their early days!!🙄
I thought I was the only one that still lives for the late 70's early 80's funk
Oh no.Plenty of us are out here.Go to KPFK on Fri at 10pm PST and listen to Ricky Vincent's History of Funk show.Or check the archives for the last 2 weeks' shows. You will be glad that you did.
Yess we love the 70s and 80s!!!
I bought XM radio JUST for the 70 & 80’s channels!!!!! Lol
Andre Cymone:IF YOU ARE READING THIS....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WRITE A BOOK OF YOUR EARLY DAYS WITH PRINCE.HE LIVED WITH YOU,TOURED WITH YOU,WAS CLOSE TO YOUR MAMA...INCLUDE LOTS OF PICS IN THIS BOOK.COME OUT WITH AN ALBUM.NOW IS THE TIME! WE KNOW U GOT STORIES FOR DAYS!
Dez wrote a book.
And Andre please talk about your aunt Lil and elaborate (if you know) how/why Prince came up with his idea for the song Donna! :) Prince and Andre gave me their autographs in 4th or 5th grade. My mom worked with Andre's aunt Lil, and Lil offered to get their autographs for me my birthday. The autographs said "Happy Birthday Donna, I hope you have a good time! Prince". On the back it said "Hope you have a fun birthday Donna! Andre". Someone stole them out of my scrap book about 7 years later!! :'(
@@Donna777 Why didnt you frame it right away? Omgosh what a cool story! 💜👍So did you see Prince or Andre back in the day?
Listening in 2022 - Most Beautiful Interview!! Love Andre Cymone! 😘❤
Thanks for posting this, Andre Cymone is so interesting. Great talent, and interesting person. Thanks again.

My name is Rick James Bitch !!! lol. Prince blew Ricks boat out of the water. lol
Thanks.
Andre, your a beautiful friend to Prince. You spoke beautiful words about him, no jealousy you gave him his respect ,great man !!!! 💜💜💜 love your interview.... Good luck on your career😘
Listening again in 2021. Andre stayed consistent. Good dude.
Hands down the all-time best interview of your podcast in my opinion. Love Dre!
It has been great hearing from Andre Cymone. Awesome interview. Appreciate how it was not solely focused around Prince. My first concert was Battle of Punk Funk. Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Those early days are worth making a movie about- just so many colorful great characters! Thanks for this wonderful awesome interview. Best wishes for 2021.
I love this conversation you had with Mr. Andre Cymone. Thanks so much for posting!
Love this interview...I learn so much from these podcast. Andre kept it 100
Andre is a VERY humble man. I hope Prince is looking down on him and waves his purple wand of a second chance of success on him again. He deserves it.
Great interview. Andre Cymone is musically and hilariously talented. 😂👍❤🎉🙏
AC is one hella artist and Dance Electric is my SHHHHH! I would love for dude to get back out there and find JAM&LEWIS get some hometown funk and make this happen... I was 15 in 85' when dance electric came out, I'm 50 now I like to hear another album bro... Carry that torch
Andre cymone has two recent albums out his fourth album the stone great album also he has released an album called 1969 check out both of them the stone being my favorite recent one from him check out a song called The Horseman
Wonderful and insightful interview, I've been down with Prince since I was 11yrs old and remember jamming to "Kelly's Eyes" when I was in middle school, missed out on knowing\learning about Andre as I got older, if Prince and Andre were both my big brother Andre would've definitely been my favorite ijs lol, Prince should've done waaaaaay more for Terrance Jackson's and Andre's family in my opinion. I will be looking and listen for all your future music to come
Truly good interview. Anything he put out I am gonna try my best to get.
cappistol stevenson Me too!!❤
Yes!! I loved “Tells from the tour Bus!”!! That should go somewhere and Yes do the entire Prince- Minneapolis story!;)
Awesome interview.
THANKS FOR THIS POST 💜I LOVE ANY AND ALL MATTER RELATED TO PRINCE AND HIS MN. LIFE 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Andre is such a great interview!
Great interview
Great interview!
Yes, Andre is right about the music. Prince took what ever he wanted to put in his music. Music other people came up with. A lot of people have said so. If I could ask Andre one question it would be "Why he didn't release [Do me baby] on one of his albums "? Everyone knows it was Andre's song. Maybe prince had more lawyers but he would of lost that case. And did prince play on the first recording at all? Great song Andre, would love to hear your version.
This made me realize how many unknown talented people/musicians lived in "Projects". Many of them never become famous and since they do need to make money, many of them have to drop music in favor of other activities. Even to get access to instruments was challenging.
Andrew, I am so glad you took your own path. You have a good musical career , family and friends. Prince seemed to be all alone trusting all the wrong people.
Prince did many things behind the scenes. That many people don't know about. I'm sure he appreciated what Andre's mother did for him. That is why he came to visit her in the hospital. It was clear that Prince had more talent and determination than his friends.
Brilliant interview!!!
Rick James is mentioned Around the 1hr5min mark until 1hr19min along with a brief mention of Kool & The Gang, but like the majority of this he really is talking about Prince. He's talking about himself, which this is his interview.
Thank you!
Great story and him prince his boys they great in music i love it. God bless ya all
thank you * a.c for the inspiration that you talk about.always interesting to hear artists talk about there beginnings of there own or other's .whole interview excellent. love what he said at end of interview about GOD and US *
Wow Andre is a great story teller. What a great story I can listen to him all day he is so... funny. I can see how prince and him made great friends.
I can imagine Andre and Prince talked much trash back in the day, they probably joked and laughed about any and everything.
I bought two of Andre Cymone's albums back in the day. We didn't have internet for intel. We had to read album credits and wait for magazines to give the 411.
FatSlim Milky hey I thought that I was the only person in the world that dug Undre Cymone! I think I still have a couple of albums by him. But then Again I was the only person that I went to high school that got into OSEBESI ( probably spelled wrong) and I loved early funkadelic ( maggot brain) I was hated because everybody else was on Michael Jackson ant the Sylvers. We lived during a great time and I wouldn’t want it any other way. GOD KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING! Be cool and chose to live life electric! Okay?
@@MrFmccarty exactly, my good Brother!
Being from the same generation (in DC) during the early 70s growing up with close musicians friends & schoolmate watching the same TV Shows, same generation of parents and influences like the band Grand Funk Railroad. LOL! It sounds a lot like how we grew up! The 70s were the BEST BTW as a teen/young adult. It's was the time of the post-cultural, civil, racial and sexual revolutions, before AIDS, post psychedelic, the GREATEST creative ERA in music ever, pre CRACK and HipHop. A very positive inspiring time
Jody Watley was once married to Andre Cymone. With her lucky ass ! Lol...i wonder if Prince or Sheila E or any of the Minneapolis movement ....went to their wedding.Ijs....real die hard fans are all up in this Minneapolis koolaid.im 42 now...i grew up hearing "can you help me" by jesse johnson,The Glamorous Life" and music by Prince and The Tyme.i was the type to read the credits on the cassette tape.Andre Cymones' name rings LOUD bells.iam a music fanatic and have an excellent memory...always paid attention and adored artists.i rhyme and do songwriting myself...so i appreciate good music...especially music from back then. But die hard fans want more of Andre. We want more of Morrris Day and The Time. Some Jesse johnson.Come on with it.Prince is deceased ....but his music lives on and is appreciated. But these cats are still living....and we true fans are thirsty for more stories,pics,music....whatever you guys got!
Tasneem Basit andre used to beat her....how is that lucky?... u women always fall for ppl who are famous and wont love the men who are right next to u....these celebs don't like regular women😒
@@dorailcrayton3676 He did? I had no idea! Please tell me where I can read more about that! Please.....
Heard Prince stole her man. Dont know if it was true.
Thanks for all things prince related, it's great to here andre and any of the boys from the early days speak on there time with prince. Keep up the good work Mike. P.S. will you be getting Morris new book, perhaps an interview.
the last 35-45 minutes of this interview is the realest part of whole joint
My God Where has He’s Been Andre Cymone HE WAS WITH THE MAKING OF PRINCE. 😮WOW!!!! BAD GUY !!🎼🎼🎼🎼🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎹🎼
Prince and Andre were like brothers 👍 great interview
Mr.Andre Cymone
Amazing Greatest Guitar 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Have Album cover recording 🎭🎨🎨🎭
In past excellent album
Andre thinks it was a coincidence. That was just serendipity. We don't know it when we are in the now. It's just the way how the stars aligned it. God is a wonder if we only believe. That meeting of the two was supposed to happen. Changed the world. So happy they met themselves way back then.
My second time listening to this interview and really digesting it...I'd love to talk to this brother
Andre's 1982 LP "LIVIN IN THE NEW WAVE" was the shit back in the day! The title track and "Kelly's Eyes" of course, but there was also "Baby Don't Go" and prolly my fave, "Voice on the Radio". That song in particular sounds like something Prince would have done. I also dug AC's second joint with "Make Me Wanna Dance" and "What Are Doing Here"...I thought with the video being shown on MTV that he was making a breakthrough.
I wish Prince would have taken Morris Day's advice about doing the hip surgery for his continuous pain he went through. On Prince and Andre thing, they were like brothers with issues...
built4speed101 ...money issues lol
Prince had hip replacement surgery in 2010 but it was only on one hip, I don't think he ever had the other hip replaced and that is probably why he still had pain and was still using a cane and was using opoids. The autopsy report indicated a scar on only one hip.
FELICIA R. ..that scar was from time he went for hip arthroscopic cam view, Docs use a small camera to see inside the hip... hip surgery scar is 12 inches long not few centimeters
He had the surgery and the autopsy report does not specify any such measurements for the hip scar at all.
FELICIA R. I believe he didn’t replace hip, just had scare tissue removed, with all his cash, wish he would have done stem cell...... it’s tragic, he left the planet
Andre was FINE as Heyyylll!💋
He still fine as heyyyy :-)
Kandi Kane Ain't he?? Girl!❤
Rossilyn, Lord have mercy, indeed he is! He is extremely HOT! Andre takes great care of himself and he is as sexy and youthful as Prince was. Love them both!
I endorse this statement
Think he was well aware.
I agree with his analogy of today's "popular" music vs back in the day. Truth 🙌 .
INTERESTING INTERVIEW SO DOWN TO EARTH ❤️AND SO REAL ABOUT NEIGHBORHOOD LIFE GROWING UP 👏🏽👍🏽 I LOVE THIS ❤️😘
Wow Podcast just interviewed the REAL Dre💜 (great interview)
WOW, Prince definitely was s charmer & made an impression on each woman hecwss with from bk in the day until his Lady days. All if them think he wrote dong for them. I guess if he told you directly the song was dedicated to you & was inspired with you in Hus mind st that time -- go with it. I bn wrong B4 but I feel at the end of the day -- Vanity was the love of his life; just a gut feeling!! There wl prob be more than 1 book written about the musical genius and his love quests!!??? Prince Nelson Rogers, RIP.
No Mayte was his greatest love, but he had much respect for (hard to get) shelia E, he got her but she let him know she was his equal, that must of been hard for him to overcome. Remember jill was in his life a couple of months short of 10 years, and lovers for about 7 of them. Vanity was around for close to 3 years, I believed he loved her but she slept with Andre, and soon he was out of the band. Then vanity posed for playboy making it easy for prince to let her go. Thieves in the temple is for Andre, almost every line, even you said you loved me. Prince loved many women at different times. He always had a girlfriend, never single.
@@saa9099helia e was not that hard to get, his songs with her were sexual, seemed like a good situationship (love bizarre), I think she was more into him. I think he loved and kept evolving and growing, who ever he was with was the love of his life. He left Mayte
I love this interview. He made a lot of sense. Especially producing different but yet they have that same sound. Kind of Motownish but the same sound can be a bit stagnant.
Andre is correct on Strawberry Fields. Deep thinker! Even if the song was about an orphange: an orphanage is a place where the outcasts can live TOGETHER! Words are hillarious! It was still a civil rights song! lol
This guy is an UNSUNG hero in music history. His first four albums can stand up to Prince's first four any day....I wish the brother continued success...
ummm, no.
Livin in the new wave? love that. love him.
enjoyed Andre's stories, where's the book?!
Andre is hilarious 😂
This is heartbreaking 💔😪 and now has me giving Prince the side eye. How you play your brother (Andre') who's mom took you in and raised you and you were like brothers... DON'T BREAK HIM OFF FINANCIALLY!!! HE HELPED YOU W YOUR MUSIC AND THIS MAN HAD TO STILL LIVE W HIS MOM WHEN HE WAS IN YOUR GROUP... SMH 😒😠 PLUS PAID OTHER'S WHO WASN'T DAY 1s MORE MONEY... SHAME ON YOU PRINCE 😤😠
I feel you! I know it's business but there are different levelsl to this. Prince was uber talented and musically, he is still my fave and has no peers, but from a personal perspective and how he is consistently portrayed by past bandmates, my spirit tells me that they are not coming from a place of hate with their testimonials. I too give Prince the side eye in regards to how he broke bread with the finances and how he was stingy with granting credit where credit was due. I am also slightly bothered by the accusations of foundational song riffs being lifted from jam sessions and being developed into hit songs with no credit being granted to the originators. Side eye is an appropriate description and could be a cool name for a band!
@@fredflamer8191
💯 Yes I too now no longer think it's from a place of hate or jealousy. Before Prince died I heard the time talking mad ish about him and I thought they were jealous however, Andre's interview turned that view point all the way around.🤦🏼♀️ But now I have to side eye Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis SMH 😒 bc now they have nothing but positive things to say about Prince since he's dead 🤔 And they were the main one's talkin mad 💩 about him when he was alive 😂🤣 WTF! I give it to Morris Day and Andre' Simone... THEY KEEPS IT REAL!!! They tell the good the bad and the ugly... SALUTE TO THOSE KING'S. I STILL LOVE PRINCE 🤷🏼♀️😍🤗 THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE!!!
@@rjrenee4783 at least jam & Lewis had the balls to not like him when he was alive.
@@rjrenee4783 Prince done people dirty with his greed . He used people up . He had many law suits for unpaid bills. He semi stole other people's riffs and lyrics and gave them no credits. I'll never believe Prince played 27 instruments. I'm a Prince fan but I know a jerk when I see one.
damn great interview.. man I u gotta love Dre....cool thug life with intellect..
Good video
I really like Andre. Seems like a really sweet guy! From the interview, his sweetness may have left him out in the cold!
So Andre is basically saying Prince took the base line to Let's Work and Do Me Baby from him and not giving him credit ... 🤔🤔
Yup that's known....
Andre wrote DO ME BABY..But Prince took it added acouple changes then stamped his name on it..Andre just isnt wantin to hang Prince out there..I love Prince but ppl need to realize the man was not no saint...
Andre just explained it! A lot music came and developed through jam sessions! They were friends, Jamming! Basic ideas came, and later developed during other jam sessions, maybe with other people! A very common thing to do!
James Brown took from his musicians. George Clinton took from his. Bandleaders seem to do this. It is their band.
brownin329 There were a Lot musicians around Prince at the time who was a part of that Sound, also engineers, writers and producers. Prince has worked with many of these at various times during his career, and with some since he was a kid! Andre Cymone is just One example! Take the Peterson family for example!! Many Many others!! Prince Made it Big time, so it sounds like it's all Him and that he was a genius who suddenly came from nowhere, when in fact many of his ideas was developed with other people and bands he played with long before he recorded his albums! In the beginning it wasn't such a big deal as he wasn't really that known until after his 3-4th album!
Lisa made the first guitar riff for the song purple rain , but Prince gave her no credits for that.
The A.C album was Andre’s purple rain!
I've called every retail outlet and I can't find Andre cymone new CD "1969" NOWHERE....
just go to his website andrecymone.com
You guys had fun in growing up in the Midwest like we did
Roderick Grayson I know, right? !?!
please make a index !
with the Highlights and its corrosponding time´s
At 1:21 he's talking about Kid Cocoanut. Look him up in 1980-81 he was the shit and it's so cool to hear Andre reference them because they were off the chain.
Rick James ' was just jealous of PRINCE. Prince was on his way to tha big times. Handsome, intelligence, and most of all ,he had a clear directions as where he want to do. A very good music icon. U see Prince made it to the big times.💜💜💜💜
You were a good friend to PRINCE and so funny , your story would be a great movie wish PRINCE would have done more to help his friends
Sunny B he did Andre quit the group he wasn't fired Prince gave him a hit song DANCE ELECTRIC search for it and he gave Morris the lead singer spot in THE TIME and acting in Purple Rain🤷🏽♂️do your research
MegaVIDEOPOWER MegaVIDEOPOWER that,s cool! I hope he took care of Andre,s mom too she was good to him I,am sure he did!
Sunny B. Are you saying Prince didn't help out his friends as much as he could've ? Please tell me he treated Bernadette Anderson as the Queen she was ?

Great Interview! I have always been a fan and forever will be❤️🌹🙏😘
1:21 - he's referring to KID CREOLE...he was about becoming a star in europe at that time, especially in paris.
Sananda Maitreya AKA Terence Trent D’Arby did go to Europe..
I love this show 🎼🎶🎧
Terrific
Omg Andre is woke💜💜💜💜💜
I can't find the Dez interview you guys did. Was it deleted?
i believe andre's story because ive beenn there so it sounds real, plus all those years i saw him as the villain but listening to this he may have not taken anybodys shit but he sures hell aint the villain
It would have been very sharp and iconic if these guys would have called themselves the North Side Hustlers !
Andre Always Been A Cut Above alot of Guitarist Not many Can Write Or Produce Either 43 yrs Strong
These guys oozed sex appeal.
Waiting on the movie.
Was Prince still around during this Andre Cymone Interview

Prince should have been more financially supportive to Andre tho
How U know he wasn’t? Andre disappeared for DECADES.
how was Prince a bitter person when he gave Andre his biggest hit song of all times" the dance electric" and Prince really did Andre a huge favor with that song cuz Andre music wasn't going nowhere at that time.
ROCKNROLLFAN .... Andre helped Prince mold his image, Prince owed him more than 1 hit, he owed him more
Mae Smith Today .Prince was spoiled by Warner brothers
well, Prince gave Andre the biggest hit song of his entire career with the dance electric and that's all people really know him for.....
Andre "you aint shit ...thats right" I love it
I stand corrected thank you I was not sure
Andre needs to get hip on the left right thing. Check out Thomas Sowell
Andre the man Cymone
This shit is so cool . This nigga is crazy just like the guys i grew up with and played in a band with, LOL!!!
Absolutely
Can’t imagine being kids and having managers involved and dealing with success. Prince didn’t become famous until Purple rain so Andre wasnt there, they were all building together. It’s different when your the bass player versus the front man, sure Beyoncé guitarist isn’t making as much as her. However I think Andre saw himself as an equal and not the bass player. Wish Prince could give his opinion, glad Prince kept a relationship with his Mom, like he kept relationship with Prince Dad. Dez and others took money not sure why he didn’t?
By no means in the interview Prince gave that he was saying you needed this hit. He was joking not about you but making light of a hard situation. and to me it sounded like he had a song that would be perfect for you and it was offered as a way to make a mends. Just my opinion.
He’s def on the Showbizz Sherbet 🤣
prince is my favorite, but the guy wasn't right, andre let him live in his home, in return prince shits all over his main man!
chris cook, I understand your point, and Prince definitely was no saint. But there is two side to a story.
wasn't just andre, he took a major dump, on a whole lot of people!
chris cook I hope you are not referring to Dez Dickerson, cause he left on his own terms to join the 700 hundred club with Pat Robertson. Also a lot of people who supposedly had beef with Prince were quick to join NPG and the Revolution for their personal interest. Again, Prince was not a saint and I doubt if he was a horrible person.
As Prince would say, "it's a matter of perception" when people can't have their way with you, they will say anything.
